Luxury watches - do you wear them daily?

I just got myself a luxury watch through work (a Zenith), it was massively discounted but still one of the most expensive things I’ve bought myself, ever!

It arrived today and I really like it, it is not overly flashy, but attractive. Part of me is tempted to start wearing it most days, but part of me in conscious it is an investment as resale is still double what I paid for it. But I have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

so if you have a luxury watch, do you wear it regularly/daily?

which reminds me, I need to insure it!!

I have a Rolex and I wear it all the time. Literally only take it off to go swimming. I cant see the point of having something so lovely and not wearing it, plus it works on kinetic energy, not a battery, so if you don't wear it, it stops!

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 18/11/2022 17:44

Yes. What the point of it telling the inside of a drawer what the time is?

Thinkbiglittleone · 18/11/2022 17:47

Of course, these things are there to be "enjoyed" so in this case worn.
I love every now and again I take a second look and remember how much I love my watch

Dogsgottabone · 18/11/2022 17:50

I don't wear a watch as they annoy me, but I don't ever remove my engagement ring or 40th birthday necklace so as far as I'm concerned if you own something nice it's for wearing.

You might die tomorrow without having the enjoyment of the watch. Wear it and love it.

Beldam · 18/11/2022 17:53

Ooh they are beautiful, which one did you go for ?

my late mil had a Patek phillipe. Now this wasn’t exactly to my taste but I always encouraged her to wear it and she did at special occasions a few times a year but preferred to wear her timex for day to day. And then she declined with dementia and went into a home and ended her days wearing the emergency bracelet.

As everyone has already said just wear the thing. Life is too bloody short. Appreciate it and love it whilst you can.

Caplin · 18/11/2022 18:03

Thanks all, I reckon I will.

@Beldam it is the women’s moonphase, without the diamond edging. It is a lovely watch. Wore it today and felt very different to my chunky 5 year old Apple Watch, far more elegant!

Good choice !

Idontdoyoga · 18/11/2022 18:12

I have a Cartier Tank watch & a gold Omega.
I have a couple of other less expensive watches which I wear day to day. However the pleasure I get from both my aforesaid is immense & brings back happy memories of the giver when I fasten them on my wrist. Wear your watch with pleasure & pride.

Hooverphobe · 18/11/2022 18:12

I recently bought a spendy watch I’d be listing after for over 25 years. I figured I may as well spend/wear figuring this will be the last watch I ever buy. I love it and it makes me happy every time I look at it.

Will sell the fugly Apple Watch on Vinted. How on Earth did we get conned into paying for such ugliness?

allfurcoatnoknickers · 18/11/2022 18:21

I have an Hermès heure H watch and I love it. I actually wore it so much the leather strap got a bit battered and almost fell apart, so it's having a breather right now until I get round to getting a new strap for it.

It makes me happy to look at it every day. I'm not really a jewellery/blingy person, but I feel like it elevates any outfit.

AriettyHomily · 18/11/2022 18:24

I've got a Tag that I want to upgrade wear it all the time, never take it off. My sister has a Patek but hardly wears as the leather isn't as robust for showering / swimming etc.

LazyDoll · 18/11/2022 18:26

Another vote for wear wear wear. I have a tag and wear it all the time. My lifeguard asked me today at cold water swimming if it was ok in the water!! I never remove it. Except for bed (most times!).

BreadInCaptivity · 18/11/2022 18:27

Yes. I'm lucky enough to have two Cartier watches and one of them is always on my wrist.

What's the point in owning nice things you don't use?

Coniferhedge · 18/11/2022 18:29

I have a diamond Gucci watch that DH bought me for my 30th birthday. I wear it every day because I would be heartbroken if my house was burgled and it got stolen (this has happened previously with family heirloom jewellery). It’s the same with my wedding and engagement rings - I never leave the house without them. It’s more a sentimental reason than a monetary one.

WaddleAway · 18/11/2022 18:30

Ooh nice! I’d wear it every day to get my moneys worth. No point buying nice things for them to sit in a drawer!

NotYourHolidayDick · 18/11/2022 18:31

I have a few Rolex and so does my DH. We wear them daily. Why wouldn't you? I literally see no point in not wearing things. You can't enjoy them from your grave 😩

Craftybodger · 18/11/2022 18:32

Yup, Rolex rarely leaves my wrist, not even for swimming in a pool! (Take it off if sea swimming, which is another rarity!)

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 18/11/2022 18:32

I have a Chanel J12 that I wear daily.

monsteronahill · 18/11/2022 18:33

I have a few and wear them daily! Someone commented at work the other day about it - I said for this price I'm getting my cost per wear 😂

allfurcoatnoknickers · 18/11/2022 18:35

@AriettyHomily It was me accidentally getting in the shower with the Heure H on that buggered the strap 🙄. That'll teach me to not pay attention to what I'm doing.

Zuve · 18/11/2022 18:43

I wear my lovely watch all the time. It ticks away and I will never change it

RubiesandRose · 18/11/2022 18:53

I have a Cartier tank watch and wear it daily, gives me immense pleasure. I also have a vintage Gucci watch which is more for evenings and I love wearing that too. Watches are made for wearing not sitting in a box!

Twilightstarbright · 18/11/2022 18:57

Had a Tag watch for 15 years and wear it daily. What’s the point otherwise?

Every day is best. Life isn’t a dress rehearsal.

AgathaMystery · 18/11/2022 18:58

I have a carrier tank that I absolutely love and wear daily.

Isabelle70 · 18/11/2022 19:07

I have a diamond Tag that I wear everyday and only normally take off for woodworking when I remember.
No point keeping stuff for best!
