Luxury watches - do you wear them daily?

I just got myself a luxury watch through work (a Zenith), it was massively discounted but still one of the most expensive things I’ve bought myself, ever!

It arrived today and I really like it, it is not overly flashy, but attractive. Part of me is tempted to start wearing it most days, but part of me in conscious it is an investment as resale is still double what I paid for it. But I have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

so if you have a luxury watch, do you wear it regularly/daily?

which reminds me, I need to insure it!!

I've worn a Longines for about 25 years. It's never been a problem.

TinaYouFatLard · 18/11/2022 19:13

I wear my Breitling all the time. Enjoy it.

Zipps · 18/11/2022 19:15

Yes I wear one or the other of mine everyday, I have two. That's what they're for. I also wear all my jewelry. I buy investment pieces.
Never in the shower or when I'm swimming though.

Moanycowbag · 18/11/2022 20:33

Never leaves my wrist, apart from. when it needs to be serviced, it automatic so needs the movement and is waterproof/dive watch so a shower or bath. doesn't. hurt it, feel. naked without it.

StickyCricket · 18/11/2022 20:39

I never save anything “for best”. I don’t wear my Rolex for work as it’d get bashed and scratched but other than work, I wear it often.

My mum always kept everything “for best” or die “special occasions” and now she has dementia - and a wardrobe full of lovely perfume that has gone off, beautiful clothes unworn, luxury handbags still brand new and jewellery that has barely seen the light of day.

What a waste!

thewolfandthesheep · 18/11/2022 20:51

Wear, wear, wear. Cudos for the moonphase.

SD1978 · 18/11/2022 20:52

I would. I am done with keeping things for good. I am using and wearing all the things because I bought them, and they do me no good when I'm dead. I don't care about a legacy, I want to feel good now, and not that some child or grandchild can get something that never came out the box. Life is too short!

JaceLancs · 18/11/2022 21:05

I wear a bi metal omega as an every day watch and have a gold one as a dress watch
I’m the same with jewellery I wear fairly expensive jewellery most of the time but have a few very expensive pieces that I save for special occasions

JaceLancs · 18/11/2022 21:10

I’m another who believes you should use things often
I like owning nice things including expensive crockery and glass
I’ve had a few expensive accidents this week
Dcat broke a vase
I dropped something at work which took out a favourite paperweight type thing that a previous colleague bought me
then yesterday I knocked over a bottle of perfume which then damaged 2 other things on my dressing table
As annoyed as I am it won’t stop me using and enjoying beautiful things every day

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/11/2022 21:11

I have my grandmother's Omega from the Thirties. I had a new leather band fitted and wear it all the time.

chickeningonup · 18/11/2022 21:14

I wear an Apple Watch.. so I'm no good to ya here

But

I have a Cartier bracelet that was around £4k and was literally screwed on to my wrist the day my daughter was born. It's never been off me for a moment since. I have left it to her in my will so she might have to get the screwdriver out before they close the coffin lid. Grin

Soproudoflionesses · 18/11/2022 21:25

I love my longines but tend to only wear it for special occasions which now l am thinking is a waste!

Shitfather · 18/11/2022 21:49

i wear my Cartier daily. It was a gift from my father. I adore it and it looks and feels gorgeous. Don’t need any other jewelry.

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 18/11/2022 21:52

Congratulations on your Zenith, I have an El Primero & my wife has a Defy, Zeniths are things of beauty.

FelicityFlops · 18/11/2022 21:53

I have a Cartier, a Tissot and my granny's 21st birthday present watch, which is a beautiful rose gold. I don't wear any of them.
I did wear my granny's watch on my wedding day, but that was probably the last time and is over 20 years ago.
I hate wearing stuff on my wrists and don't need a watch to tell the time. I can teach a double lesson to the second without.

Twiggywinkle13 · 18/11/2022 21:55

Rolex here, daily wear too. Yes it was expensive but there aren’t enough ‘special occasions’ to justify the price! Wear it every day and enjoy it!

Waterfalls39 · 18/11/2022 21:58

It's not in the same league as some of these but I've got a vintage Gucci that I adore and wear most days to work. Better on my wrist than in the box.

Spirini · 18/11/2022 23:53

I wear my gold longines daily, it gives me a little pop of pleasure every time I look at it. So worth it.

Smartwatches are a con, you buy one, it'll work for 4-5 years if you're lucky and then it'll be added to the drawer with all the other ancient obsolete devices.

You'll have a luxury watch forever.

CheesenCrackersmm · 19/11/2022 00:53

I wear my lovely watch all the time. It ticks away and I will never change it

Not even on March 26th?

Appleblum · 19/11/2022 01:19

Yes. I rotate them regularly. You've already spent the money, don't keep it locked up in a drawer!

SarahDippity · 19/11/2022 01:41

During lockdown I retired my watch to a drawer. Stopped wearing nice jewellery, and am guilty of wearing the same earrings for weeks in end. Lately I was at a work do and glammed up. This might sound very shallow, but looking ‘expensive’ really marks you out. It quietly says ‘success’ and having been recently promoted I felt that personally presenting myself as ‘successful’ gave me a bit of elevation. I was wearing a very inexpensive black dress, but accessorised to show off a bit, and it was really noticed.

emptythelitterbox · 19/11/2022 02:55

I wear my Patek Calatrava every day.

Pythonese · 19/11/2022 03:04

I’m not sure if TAG is a luxury watch but I wear mine all the time.

Mrcpy · 19/11/2022 07:30

I wear my Longines every day. It’s understated - no diamonds or anything - so it’s fine for work. But utterly gorgeous and elegant and makes me happy.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 19/11/2022 07:33

I wear my Rolex all the time.
It costs a fortune to insure it so I might as well wear it.
(I expect most people think it’s fake.)
