Luxury watches - do you wear them daily?

I just got myself a luxury watch through work (a Zenith), it was massively discounted but still one of the most expensive things I’ve bought myself, ever!

It arrived today and I really like it, it is not overly flashy, but attractive. Part of me is tempted to start wearing it most days, but part of me in conscious it is an investment as resale is still double what I paid for it. But I have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

so if you have a luxury watch, do you wear it regularly/daily?

which reminds me, I need to insure it!!

I have a Rolex and an Omega which I switch between and I wear them 24/7. I sleep in them, swim in them, shower in them etc. Lovely things are meant to be enjoyed!

LondonLovie · 19/11/2022 17:36

It's very sad that it has gotten so bad now. Just make sure they are not on show in cities for sure!

AwfulTed · 19/11/2022 17:41

Wear my Rolex daily to work , but not for exercise … it is a beautiful object which makes me feel happy

Apollonia1 · 19/11/2022 18:09

I've an Omega I wear every day, and a diamond Tag I sometimes wear in the evening. There's a Rolex I was thinking of getting in a few years (but the post a few posts above has put me off).

I literally know of two people in London this month who have had the Rollex taken off their wrists

I bet they are glad that they only wear fakes then.

I don't think people reporting to the police would wear fakes. But well Rollex... The sentimental value can be devastating. My first ever watch was stolen, and I just can never replace it.

I think @CheesenCrackersmm ’s point was that it’s Rolex, not Rollex

I saw her point.😉

I wear mine now and then but I always hide them when wearing them on the tube or out and about in central london. But def agree with not saving for best, I take this view with all of my belongings

XingMing · 20/11/2022 20:19

What's the point of having anything nice if you never use it or wear it? I don't like drinking out of thick mugs, so I have china mugs. Unlikely to be mugged for it agreed, but it's a similar principle with jewellery. MY clothes are very ordinary, so the jewellery is assumed to be costume.

AlwaysLatte · 20/11/2022 20:21

I have an heirloom diamond watch and I'm terrified to wear it much - so very special occasions only!

lechatnoir · 20/11/2022 20:31

Ditto @VickerishAllsort I also have a beautiful Omega sadly relegated to the drawer as it need ££££ for a new strap and mechanical repairs. I wore it daily for a good 20+ years so got my money's worth but do miss it.

SomeChickensAreJustTooBig · 20/11/2022 20:38

I wear my Cartier tank daily.

JaceLancs · 21/11/2022 23:42

It’s an interesting point though and I remember a thread recently about someone’s boss wearing designer clothing which gained mixed responses
I love expensive jewellery and clothes and wear them all the time but don’t really think about it that much
some items are inherited or things I was given or bought in more affluent times
why should I not have the pleasure of wearing them just in case someone else finds it insensitive? I’m not convinced anyone would know easily as there are some fab fakes around
I drive an older car which I own outright most of the people who work for me drive around in cars worth 5-10 times as much some leased some on finance

I have a tag which I wear most of the time except if I'm doing sport, when I wear a garmin.
I've had it nearly 15 years

Shakenandstirredup · 06/09/2024 11:38

Did have one but sold it. No point unless you wear it all the time & I just wouldn’t wear one all the time in London.

TizerorFizz · 06/09/2024 11:54

There are some watches that grab attention like Rolex and others that many would not recognise. A Zenith is wearable. I would think about where I wore my Rolex but mostly I line in the country, not London. DH and me have a pretty nice watch collection and we wear them. Just had a few serviced! Not cheap.

Penguinsmum · 06/09/2024 12:28

You have all inspired me to get out my Rolex - 1979 vintage - and wear it! No more saving for best!

FaiIureToLunch · 06/09/2024 12:30

I have a diamond mother of Pearl watch that I wear unless I’m lifting weights or painting. I absolutely love it

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 06/09/2024 12:45

Congratulations on your Zenith, beautiful watches! I have an El Primero and my wife has a Defy skeleton.
If you have nice watches, I wear them, I'm just sensible about where. I also have brands other than Rolex that attract less attention, but beautiful things are for enjoying.

I've stopped wearing my Longines watch at work as I often have to help with deliveries and it was in danger of getting scratched.

I wear it the rest of the time though. My dad wanted to buy me an Omega for my 50th birthday but I prefer the Longines to be honest.

pepperaunt · 06/09/2024 16:31

I have a Chopard and a Cartier that I rotate but wear often. I’m always careful to turn them in on the Tube. I tend to dress quite casually so assume most people don’t notice
