Luxury watches - do you wear them daily?

Caplin · 18/11/2022 17:28

I just got myself a luxury watch through work (a Zenith), it was massively discounted but still one of the most expensive things I’ve bought myself, ever!

It arrived today and I really like it, it is not overly flashy, but attractive. Part of me is tempted to start wearing it most days, but part of me in conscious it is an investment as resale is still double what I paid for it. But I have no plans to sell it anytime soon.

so if you have a luxury watch, do you wear it regularly/daily?

which reminds me, I need to insure it!!

I have a Longines tonneau mechanical watch which I used to wear daily including housework. It was a 10th anniversary joint present (men’s version for DH).
I took it in for cleaning and the technician gave me a lecture that I was going to ruin it and eventually the delicate mechanism would be useless AND worthless.

It now lives in the safe and only comes out on special occasions. But for our following anniversary we both got cheaper, waterproof battery-operated Longines.
And that one I do wear every day.

DeathWinsAGolfish · 19/11/2022 08:00

I wear my Cartier all the time, even sleep in it.

Roussette · 19/11/2022 08:01

I have an Ebel with diamonds I wear all the time. Love it. Bought it after losing two parents within days if each other, best decision ever, it helped me cope after

But my god the servicing is eye wateringly expensive 😮😮😮😮😮

feministqueen · 19/11/2022 08:22

I have an omega de vil which tbh I wear rarely just because I got out of the habit of wearing a watch. I think I'm going to wear it today! Thanks for the reminder!

My hubby has 2 longines and he wears them at weekends (can't wear a nice watch for work)

whirlyhead · 19/11/2022 08:25

Cartier pasha c here which I wear all the time. It’s beautiful but big and loses time at a rate of knots so it’s hardly practical.

part of me hankers for an Apple Watch.

chickeningonup · 18/11/2022 21:14

I wear an Apple Watch.. so I'm no good to ya here

But

I have a Cartier bracelet that was around £4k and was literally screwed on to my wrist the day my daughter was born. It's never been off me for a moment since. I have left it to her in my will so she might have to get the screwdriver out before they close the coffin lid. Grin

Oh @chickeningonup DH wants to get me one of those Cartier bracelets as a birth present for our 3rd DC (she's just turned 3 btw 😂)
I'm a bit apprehensive about never taking it off though...does it ever annoy you? Do you also wear other bracelets with it?

Sorry meant to respond to the watch question too! I have a Rolex which I used to wear every day, but as a pp said, stopped during lockdown and now only put it on when I go to the office twice a week or if we go out somewhere in the weekend...this thread has made me remember all the reasons I wore it every day in the first place so will do that again now. Thank you OP and enjoy your lovely watch!

Paddingtonthebear · 19/11/2022 08:49

Stopped wearing my Omega during lockdown and now it feels uncomfortable to wear when I’m working at my desk. Need to get back into the habit of wearing again!

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 19/11/2022 11:18

I am so clumsy with watches and managed to dent a tag trying to clean it and then scratch my Cartier putting out washing so I only wear them on special occasions but I do have lovely jewellery that I rotate and wear daily. I love nice things and they are all presents so they are all special to me.

superdupernova · 19/11/2022 11:24

My DH has two second hand Breitlings which mostly sat in a drawer for the first few years. After sending one away for a service it came back looking brand new and better than when he bought it. He now wears one every day and will just get them serviced if he ever decides to sell.

Hbh17 · 19/11/2022 11:31

Yes, because there's no point in it sitting in a drawer.
Occasionally swap it for something a bit more mundane if travelling or coming home alone late at night.

I've got a Tag that I want to upgrade wear it all the time, never take it off. My sister has a Patek but hardly wears as the leather isn't as robust for showering / swimming etc.

You can change the straps of watches by the way. You can change it to a metal one.

Caplin · 19/11/2022 14:26

Thanks all!! I am proudly wearing my watch 😁😁😁

I wear/use nice things regularly because otherwise what’s the point?!

but I don’t buy for investment I buy for enjoyment.

VickerishAllsort · 19/11/2022 15:12

I have a gold Omega which I wore every day for over 25 years. It now needs a major repair and new bracelet, both of which would cost the equivalent of a new £1000+ watch, so at last it has been relegated to a drawer.
But I don't regret a single day of wearing it, for the pleasure of seeing it gleaming on my wrist.
A thing unused is a thing wasted.

chickeningonup · 19/11/2022 15:29

@givememarmite oh I barely notice it.. I rarely wear other jewellery with it purely because it's so beautiful.

I don't wear much jewellery but what I do is pretty expensive. I wear a diamond ring with a breastmilk stone, my engagement ring and my wedding ring.

eveoha · 19/11/2022 16:07

I bought my Tissot Belleflower after I lost 2 lovely watches in a burglary- which ironically I never wore for fear of losing them 🙄 anyway it has an extensible Milanese gold bracelet - no clasp or buckle - it’s waterproof and I love it 👍🏿☘️

Thanks all!! I am proudly wearing my watch 😁😁😁

Excellent news! I wear my Cartier every day. It’s a very plain steel one that I bought for myself to mark a major career milestone. It makes me happy every morning when I put it on.

Paddingtonthebear · 19/11/2022 16:31

People ought to post a photo!

LisaJool · 19/11/2022 16:39

Yes to the photos please!

Is now the time? · 19/11/2022 16:52

I wear a tag 24/7, the only time it is off my wrist is when it's having a new battery fitted.

Annabel073 · 19/11/2022 17:02

Wear and enjoy. I wear my Cartier watch with a slim Tiffany diamond bracelet. On the other wrist I wear a diamond LOVE paired with a diamond Clou, both of which I never ever remove. Scratches don't bother me.

justasking111 · 19/11/2022 17:04

I have a vintage Gucci, a vintage Bulova cocktail watch, fell in love with an Armani one a couple of months ago so OH bought it for me. They're a beautiful bracelet that happen to tell the time. Only removed to shower. A friend has a rose gold Rolex with diamonds I rather like but 26k was a lot of money I thought 🤣

LondonLovie · 19/11/2022 17:12

I literally know of two people in London this month who have had the Rollex taken off their wrists. Both badly hurt and I don't really want to go into details. DH wont wear his out and about now, only for family weddings or things like that and definitely never on show.

No point having nice things like that anymore,

The same thing is happening in the North West - I guess because so many people are wearing them, it's become a profitable business for organised gangs.
