Surprisingly great but cheap perfumes

I tested a New Look perfume, which was strategically displayed at the till yesterday and really liked it. I am certainly not their target customer (a couple of decades beyond)😂and I might actually go back to but it.

I find most perfumes way to overpowering and was surprised that this one was rather lovely. Which perfumes have you found in unexpected places?

Milton Lloyd Vogue smells so much like Chanel no 5 and I got it from an indoor market for £3.50 a bottle. You can get it from amazon for a bit more. I've never bought expensive perfume because I've never been financially able to really.

Zara ones are great. I've been gifted a couple and will not be replacing my Chanel when it runs out!

I Second this!

I grabbed a bottle of Aldi's Jo Malone dupe in Poppy and Barley the other day and it's lovely. Cost &5.99.Lasts no time at all but at that price I can keep topping up!

The only perfume I get regular compliments from people on is Britney Spears fantasy.

I bought it for nostalgia reasons (my dad brought it back from duty free when I was tween) but I get multiple compliments every time I wear it. People are always a bit confused when I say it’s eau du Britney.

I have many beautiful, more expensive perfumes but clearly they aren’t as loved!

Yes my Britney midnight fantasy is one of my favourites and always gets compliments, it's like sweet tropical fruits. I need to try the others!

DramaAlpaca · 16/11/2022 18:45

Some great suggestions on this thread. Lots I'd like to try.

I like some of the M&S ones, and I still love my Britneys at the ripe old age of 58. Love SJP Lovely and Cabotine too.

AndISeeNothingWrongWithThat · 16/11/2022 18:59

DH and I both wear Zara Vibrant Leather, a reasonably-close-but-lovely-in-its-own-right dupe for Creed's Aventus. The Vibrant Leather Intense is gorgeous too but I've only been able to find it on eBay recently so probably discontinued now.

TenOutOfTen · 16/11/2022 19:05

I'm loving all these suggestions! Very intrigued by the Britney Spears one Next ones and Jo Malone dupes. 🙂

I’ve developed a love for Fenjal. I know it’s an old lady smell (well I’m 49 so maybe I’m their target market!), but the shower cream and body lotion are really strongly perfumed and last well. It also seems to take on a subtle, musky, faintly vanilla smell on me which is really lovely.

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 16/11/2022 19:13

Next just pink.

Flidina · 16/11/2022 19:26

Lace madamoiselle, is gorgeous, get compliments every time I wear it, also next cashmere.

Waterfalls39 · 16/11/2022 19:31

I bought Calvin Klein Euphoria after a recommendation on here. It was £30 for a 100ml bottle and I've had so many compliments on it. It's now my everyday work perfume.

I love SJP Lovely too but it never lasts on me.

MissBattleaxe · 16/11/2022 20:24

@Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton Thank you! That's my blog!
@PAFMO Avon still use world class perfumers such as Olivier Cresp (Angel, Dior, Armani), Nathalie Lorson (Lalique, Jimmy Choo, Lancome) and Rodrigo Flores Roux (Clinique Happy, Estee Lauder, Tom Ford)

A580Hojas · 16/11/2022 20:27

There is a Moschino perfume called "cheap and chic" which is so off-putting as a name but it is a beautiful year round scent which is my absolute favourite atm.

TheOnlyAletheia · 16/11/2022 20:35

Britney is the only perfume that gets me regular “you smell lovely” comments. I’m definitely going to try the other suggestions!

Purpleavocado · 16/11/2022 20:45

Adding Avon Today, lovely fresh white floral

Is that the fantasy one @TheOnlyAletheia ?

Avon Timeless is fabulous.

haveyourcakeandeatit · 16/11/2022 21:46

Brittney Spears Radiance is gorgeous, although I'm not sure you can get it anymore.

I'm old-school but I like Calvin Klein Obsession, which is usually about £20 for a 100ml bottle these days.

Some of the Zara ones are OK, although they never last long.

Same. I get so many compliments when I wear Obsession. It really suits me and lasts ages. I’m known as the one who always smells great at work.

I recommend the blog iscentyouaday for bargain perfume lists 👌

Yes, that's a brilliant blog for perfume lovers.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/11/2022 21:58

I like a sweet pefume so would that be Britney fantasy or midnight fantasy? Both £12.00 at the moment in boots

RemindMeAgain · 16/11/2022 21:59

M&S Pink Pepper is lush and smells like Lancôme La Vie Est Belle, the M&S one is £12.50 for 100ml with matching shower gel.

mrsmacmc · 16/11/2022 22:17

Avon Far Away Rebel

Peachytea96 · 16/11/2022 22:21

I love the M&S white coconut perfume! I always get compliments

CinnamonJellyBeans · 17/11/2022 07:50

Avon far and away is a nice vanilla with good projection. Zara Joe Malone ones are a bit hit and miss, but the ones named after cities are better than the first bunch she did.

Ariana Grande cloud is lovely, but it's not actually cheap. I'd call it mid-price.

I have tried the next cashmere. Smells dull and meh. Also the M and S ones smell like flyspray. I have

@PAFMO and @MissBattleaxe can I ask your advice about Chanel Cristalle? I have been looking for an alternative to Clinique Wrappings for years, as the reformulated version (probs due to oakmoss replacement) has a really harsh smell. Splurged on a huge bottle of Cristalle in the duty free and same harsh undertone that actually annoys the absolute hell out of me. Can you recommend something I can layer with it?
