Would you wear jeans to an evening wedding reception?

Have been invited to a colleague's evening do ie, essentially a party. When I mentioned to another colleague that I would probably wear jeans, she threw her hands up in horror saying "You can't wear jeans to a wedding!".

Now, I'm talking nice jeans, nice top, jewellery etc, not slobbing about jeans, obv. Of course I wouldn't wear jeans if I were going to the whole day - ceremony etc. But the evening's just a party, non?

So I asked the bride-to-be, who grimaced slightly and said "I wouldn't wear jeans to an evening reception". So I won't be wearing the jeans. But I am really, genuinely surprised by this. Would you think it unacceptable to wear jeans to the evening do?

It makes a bit of a can't-be-arsed kind of statement - and is definitely not entering into the special-occasion celebratory spirit

The friends and family at our wedding and reception really went to town, and I was touched and generally cheered by that. So the reverse would also be true.

I see what you're saying, but I wasn't planning on slinging on an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt at all. I meant dressed up jeans with dressy/sparkly top, heeled boots or strappy sandals etc. It would have been a 'making an effort' outfit! But anyway, as I said earlier I will be splashing out on a new frock instead!

Yeah, but - well, jeans will always be jeans. I think you've made the right decision

Someone wore jeans to my sisters wedding last summer. They were nice ones, almost like linen trousers, but definitely jeans. And it was all everyone could talk about all day ie "Have you seen that girl wearing JEANS?" All the women were having a right bitch about it and everyone was unimpressed (probably just jealous that they were in poncy frocks and not comfy jeans, but there ya go!)

So I would say thats a no, but I think you probably got that idea already!
