OK, I am chief bridesmaid for best friend at big castle wedding in June. Her dress is big and fabulous. The other bridesmaid is approaching 6 foot and is less curvy than I. I am 5 foot 5 with tits and an arse. This is the dress that the other bridesmaid and bride prefer. The bride would never let me wear something I hated but time is of the essence and it is not easy to get together again and re-choose. I have a habit of being petulant and rebelling if I haven't made the choice myself and may be doing that in this instance like a sulky teenager. The dress pictured is a Dessy one (no 2043) and is sampled in blue, but the actual dress will be in chocolate brown. Do I look as horrendous in it as I do in my own head? Obviously it needs altering, but I think my hips look huge!! and yes, I have my magic knickers on already, but I don't think I was wearing heels. Pics on profile.

when you said 'curvy' I was imagining he dress in an 18 or a 20! phew!

[blunt]
it will look much better with a bra and some heels

bundle · 29/01/2008 12:36

it's fine, but not a "wow" dress

suwoo · 29/01/2008 12:36

I actually like the blue, but brown is the theme. I am going to try it on again on Thursday. I don't know if I have got worked up for nothing, I just don't feel 'fabulous' in it.

i just think there is such a huge variety of bridesmaids dresses that are gorgeous - that one is not

yurt1 · 29/01/2008 12:37

Oh it doesn't look clingy. And you are slim! I think its fine actually.

rantinghousewife · 29/01/2008 12:37

That actually doesn't look as bad as I imagined. Need a good bra thing though.

nailpolish · 29/01/2008 12:37

at a themed wedding

ThePettyandIllinformedGoat · 29/01/2008 12:37

but it is not your wedding! you will look nice and your friend will look fabulous.

MamaG · 29/01/2008 12:37

you do look better than I thought.

Agree youneed heels and a bra though

I t hink it looks a bit too big as well - there are much more flattering styles out there for you, although you can carry it off, just!

suwoo · 29/01/2008 12:37

Mrs Badger, I was wearing a bra . Actually in one of the pics, I wasn't, hopefully thats the one you were looking at.

EffiePerine · 29/01/2008 12:37

aha

I don't think it looks bad, but the halter top is not ideal.

ThePettyandIllinformedGoat · 29/01/2008 12:37

naughty nailpolish!

hermionegrangerat34 · 29/01/2008 12:37

I think that looks lovely. Will suit you even better in the brown.

Like bundle says, fine but not "wow"

MrsBadger · 29/01/2008 12:38

[slap with kipper]
You're not meant to feel fabulous, that's the bride
You're meant to feel flustered, dutiful and slightly proud.

suwoo · 29/01/2008 12:38

Not 'themed' just colour scheme.

Lauriefairycake · 29/01/2008 12:39

sorry you appear to be misleading us - where exactly are the tits and arse of which you speak

You look fabulous in the blue dress and I think your hair goes some way to making the dress more modest.

Very slim and beautiful in the dress, love the blue, and I'm sure the brown will look fine

When I went to a wedding last year there were three other weddings on and all the bridesmaids were wearing brown - it's going to look soooooooo of its time in the photos in 20 years.

A time when all sitting rooms were beige and brown

suwoo · 29/01/2008 12:39

I don't want to look as good as the bride, I just don't want to look a twat! That is why I am saying this all here and not to her of course!!

rantinghousewife · 29/01/2008 12:39

Think yourself lucky, in my one bridesmaid experienced, I had to wear a peach satin merange, I still have nightmares about it now.

YouKnowNothingOfTheCrunch · 29/01/2008 12:40

I think it looks really nice. Great figure!

suwoo · 29/01/2008 12:40

Brown is very current, I think. The brown is the best bit of the dress.

OP posts:
Fimbo · 29/01/2008 12:41

It looks better on I have to say. But is it going to go into 1000's of creases when you sit down?

MamaG · 29/01/2008 12:41

you won't look a twat

i think brown is nice for bridesmaids, mate was one last year and wore brown

Twiglett · 29/01/2008 12:41

OK honestly

I think that dress is hideous

BUT

I think you look pretty good in it
