I wish high waisted jeans would feck off

Why do all trousers and jeans have such high waists? 😭 I really want a pair (or five!) of wide legged jeans, but where are the low rise/mid rise ones all hiding? I'm an apple shape, and hate the feel of anything tight around my middle, lower cut jeans are so much comfier and more flattering! Any fellow apples like to share where you buy jeans and trousers, please?

I so agree with the original post. High waist trousers do up around my tits and make me feel like an old man

TheOGCCL · 17/10/2022 21:25

Couldn't agree more. I'm always looking at jeans in high street shops with ridiculously high rises. M&S never have anything mid or low.

It is true that there are quite a few low rise options around at the moment but many of these are 90s/Britney Spears inspired so they paler denim, baggy, fashion forward and not necessarily a straight forward pair of jeans.

Where are the simple straight/slim or indeed flared or wide leg mid rise jeans? I don't actually need that low rise, just something about an inch or two below my navel.

I am an apple (as in I'm not a pear) and much prefer lower rises. I think higher rises accentuate stomachs and arses, although obviously the latter is highly fashionable and imo partly why higher rises are in at the moment.

Wide legs shorten your legs so I think more often come in higher rise to lengthen the leg (not the torso).

What is infuriating is when things are labelled mid rise when in fact they are high. Sometimes things labelled low rise are actually mid rise, such is the distortion in favour of high rise. Wish online items just had the rise measurements.

Tommy Hilfiger Sophie are low rise. Molly at River Island are mid rise (skinny). I also got some Mango skinnies recently that are mid rise. Next are worth a look.

Esprit are quite good for offering a range of rises but their cords all seem very high rise.

Levi boyfriend are low to mid rise.

VaccineSticker · 17/10/2022 21:27

The current style High rise trousers might feel comfortable but don’t suit everybody. They look like hand me downs that don’t fit on most people. Not many people can pull it off.

Manasprey · 17/10/2022 21:28

Love high waist jeans. I'm tall, so it means tops actually meet my jeans and I don't have to keep pulling them down. Low rise jeans were good when I was young, with sharp hip bones and a thong sticking up over the top.

woodhill · 17/10/2022 22:13

I think it's because I am long waisted that high waists are fine on me

It's no fun when trousers give you a wedgie

lissie123 · 17/10/2022 22:16

I’m a pear shape and luffs a high waisted jean

I literally could have written your post OP! I have ended up with 501's - they come in lots of different iterations these days but O tried a load and found a couple of pairs that worked for me and I can actually tolerate wearing all day.

chronictonic · 17/10/2022 22:26

Just to add some ranting...
the problem I have with high waisted jeans is that I dont actually have a waist.. and its not about the look as much as the discomfort. Everytime you sit down it gets even worse.
And the thing is its not just JEANS thar are high waisted these days, it's eveey pair of shorts and trousers too. And obviously for some people it's great and comfortable and suits them ans thats fine, but there is no other choice at the moment and hasnt been for a couple of years

Janeycraney · 17/10/2022 22:30

Pear shape here- high waisted til I die! Removes the muffin top and makes my double c section belly pouch disappear.

Yes they smooth down the belly pouch !!! I am a pear/Hold it in I hope they never go. I feel much warmer with my pants up to my waist. I remember when low rise were the only things in fashion when I was a teen and my pants were always falling down it didn't matter if I had a belt on they just didn't fit right.

cofeetablebook · 17/10/2022 22:36

I love me some mum jeans!

This exactly! I've been a size 10, an 18, and I'm somewhere between those at the moment - but I've never had a waist. Totally agree about the discomfort. I've taken to wearing joggers, but I miss my slouchy jeans.

Can't the people who want low waist wear leggings or trackies or something...

I still struggle sometimes to find clothes that fit me, because I have a waist. Belts needed for most things.

shedwithivy · 17/10/2022 23:04

I have a job which involves crouching and bending to lift things from the floor. I love the high waist for not worrying about giving someone an eyeful of builders bum.

I'm also a pear shape and would prefer a big bum mum jean to a clingy parsnip leg skinny any day, also nice to show I actually do have a waist.

Madagascary · 18/10/2022 00:38

Belly pouch 🤢

BananaCocktails · 18/10/2022 00:42

I love high waist jeans They pull in my tummy !

bloodyeverlastinghell · 18/10/2022 01:02

I love highwaisted (not helpful) I'm tall and anything else seems to involve me showing lots of arese crack if I sit down.

StarlightLady · 18/10/2022 06:27

Hate the things! How are you supposed to sit down in them? It seems like the waists are getting higher too! I tried on a pair of jeans last week, they were at the point of wearing a top redundant.

lt was almost a case of having to take off the jeans to undo my bra!

ponderingpaula · 18/10/2022 06:31

God you're the anti me. I need high rise, mid and low rise make me feel so fat and frumpy.

They had low rise wide leg jeans in H&M. I've seen loads around tbh. Stradivarius?

chronictonic · 18/10/2022 06:58

Ok, for those of you who love High Waisted, do you find them COMFORTABLE though?
Because I understand the benefit and feeling of them having everything contained and tidied up but isn't that feeling uncomfortable?

Size 10 here and NEVER had a waist! Straight up and down.

Yes, they are the most comfortable style for me. No cold back or digging in as they sit at my natural waistline. Mine are 100% cotton so non stretch.

Are you saying your waist and hip measurements are the same? I have narrow hips but there is still 9 inches between my measurements.

ponderingpaula · 18/10/2022 07:23

Yes high waisted much more comfy for me. I tend to have ones with stretch in

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/10/2022 07:26

I love high waist jeans. I've got a defined waist but then have CSection overhang (thanks DS2) and I can't even do up low rise jeans.

missfliss · 18/10/2022 07:27

I prefer high rise in me.

I'm a slightly overweight apple 5'6", long torso and short legs. Narrow hips but still have some ( slight) waist definition - round tum, flat bum. High waists sit at my natural waist and help break up the proportions of my body more to the more favourable 2/3 + 1/3 instead of 1/2 + 1/2. I tuck tee shirts and shirts in and they stay up. Low waists and mid rises accentuate my tummy and are v uncomfortable

iCouldSleepForAYear · 18/10/2022 07:50

Oof, my love handles are still cold from the 10+ years I exposed my muffin top with low slung hipster jeans. Loving my high rise jeans and pants now. 😁

I'm an hourglass and I get on well with high rise skinnies, straight leg, and flares.

The high-waisted wide legs look a bit like a circus tent on me. That cut looked better with a low rise and about 10kg less on my frame.

I think Lands End does some mid rise jeans, for anyone looking? Never tried theirs yet, but an option maybe?
