I wish high waisted jeans would feck off

Why do all trousers and jeans have such high waists? 😭 I really want a pair (or five!) of wide legged jeans, but where are the low rise/mid rise ones all hiding? I'm an apple shape, and hate the feel of anything tight around my middle, lower cut jeans are so much comfier and more flattering! Any fellow apples like to share where you buy jeans and trousers, please?

I love high rise!! They actually cover my bum. I am very "long waisted" - is that the term? Basically, the distance from my hips to waist is really long. Mid rise jeans are barely decent on me, low waisted - no chance!

red4321 · 18/10/2022 08:22

And the thing is its not just JEANS thar are high waisted these days, it's eveey pair of shorts and trousers too. And obviously for some people it's great and comfortable and suits them ans thats fine, but there is no other choice at the moment and hasnt been for a couple of years

Ah yes, that's my second pet peeve. I found a pair of low rise shorts in superdry a few years ago and I've worn them so much that they're falling to bits. The second hand pair I've just bought on eBay just aren't quite the same.

I still don't really understand why high waisted jeans are flattering. If you have a tummy (which most of us do), covering it in a thick layer of denim surely makes it more prominent? Not to mention feeling like you're wearing a girdle whenever you sit down.

I don't think I've seen a single person wearing high waisted jeans that I've found a flattering look, even on skinny models. As someone else said, just a massive expanse of denimy bottom and waist. It just emphasises the middle section rather than looking in proportion to your legs and top half.

Not that I begrudge you the choice, but, as I said earlier, there was not one pair of non high waisted jeans in the entirety of the London Selfridges jeans department.

@red4321 - You are a woman after my own heart. Are you me?

Coveredinivy · 18/10/2022 08:56

I hate them too, I can't stand anything tight around my waist. Go to h&m and type in low rise. I just got 2 pairs of wide leg low rise jeans from there and they're so comfortable it doesn't feel like wearing jeans at all. They're not proper low rise,on me they sit about an inch below my tummy button. I got blue and black, order your normal size and one higher because their sizing is all over the place. They also do low rise trousers - I got a pair for work and they're only £15.

Off to check Next now, thanks for the tips.

Do you also dislike the bikini bottoms that look like one big wedgie with both botty cheeks hanging out either side? Also the flesh coloured leggings pulled up so high you have a visible camel-toe? If so, I may be you.

I delighted to have found solidarity on my quest for jeans that don't make me look like I'm wearing my in-laws' golf 'slacks' (I loathe that word). But what happens when we're competing for the only pair of low-rise jeans on sale in the whole of the U.K.? Allegiances may have to be abandoned...

@YourSpleenIsDamp the apple shape is because of the damp. Eat less bananas and all will be good.

Pupwaist · 18/10/2022 09:41

I was literally going to start a thread about this.

My issue is that high waisted are comfortable and look good once I’m upright but are excruciating when I sit down. I end up driving and sitting in public places with my button undone.

I was a huge fan of jeggings and their blissful elasticated waists but accept that trend is over.

Do normal elasticated waist jeans exist? I’m 5 foot 2 and a size 10 so not overweight just have a belly that seems to quadruple in size when I sit down!!

@MinervaTerrathorn My waist measurement is actually larger than my hip measurement!
I'm a proper apple. My favourite rise is mid rise, just enough to cover my love handles but not high enough to make me feel like I'm wearing a corset.

Floisme · 18/10/2022 10:09

I cannot stand the feel of low waisted jeans - it's like they're permanently on the verge of falling down. Last time they were a thing, I was driven to wearing dresses.

Anyway there are still plenty in the charity shops round here if anyone's struggling to find some.

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2022 11:39

Oh god I only wear high waisted anything! Holds everything in, I wear long tops to cover where my waist is anyway so not a vast expanse of trouser material migrating to cover 2/3 of my whole body.
Low waisted feel dangerous, I have a high up bum crack (😂 or so dh tells me!) so low waisted feel exposing but also just like they’re on the verge of falling down.

red4321 · 18/10/2022 13:54

I have a high up bum crack.

That's finished me off... the all-important fourth dimension to leg, waist and hip measurements, surely?!

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2022 14:41

Well exactly @red4321 😂
I mean I don’t feel it’s higher up than his except that I’ve got longer legs so because of that my bum crack does come up higher than his 😂

red4321 · 18/10/2022 14:55

Ah higher from the ground, not disproportionate to your other dimensions? That's made me dissolve in laughter again...

lindyloo57 · 18/10/2022 15:56

@Pupwaist I am the same 5ft2 size 10 in most jeans, when I sit down i have to undo the button too, I own one pair of high waist jeans which I can sit in without cutting me in half, they are from newlook the pleather jeans, I have had them for three years, not sure if they do them now.

MightyOaks · 18/10/2022 16:02

shedwithivy · 17/10/2022 23:04

I have a job which involves crouching and bending to lift things from the floor. I love the high waist for not worrying about giving someone an eyeful of builders bum.

I'm also a pear shape and would prefer a big bum mum jean to a clingy parsnip leg skinny any day, also nice to show I actually do have a waist.

Parsnip leg 😂😂😂👏🏻

Pupwaist · 18/10/2022 16:11

Thanks @lindyloo57 you understand! It seems ridiculous because if you saw me standing you would say I was slim. Then I sit down and it’s torture, unbearable with the button closed. I got rid of all my skinny jeans and jeggings and now I’m on the verge of getting rid of my high waisted pairs. Maybe jeans are over for me but I’m not sure what else to try for casual wear on weekends.

TheChosenTwo · 18/10/2022 16:18

Well @red4321 at the risk of setting you off again; he does think my crack is taller than his even taking into account the fact that my bum is higher up from the ground than his!! I’m now tempted to Take measurements- where would I start the tape measure?! 😂

TurtleTriplets · 18/10/2022 16:20

Iknowforsure1 · 17/10/2022 17:35

I’m apple shape and high waist is my life saver.

Same here!

I am fairly slim but being apple shaped all my fat is on my stomach, high waist holds it in place, it would all hang over otherwise!

I confess I've been contemplating that since you posted as I do enjoy statistical analysis. I think crotch to the top end of 'the Great Rift Valley' to shoulder is the only option that takes into account the potential difference in proportions.

For example, you have a ratio of one to four and your partner one to five...

Pupwaist · 18/10/2022 16:45

For those apples who say high waisted hold it all in, I get you- while standing up! But what happens when you sit down? Are you not crucified along the middle? I’m starting to wonder if I have a really weird anatomy.

Titsflyingsouth · 18/10/2022 16:47

I hear you. Absolutely hate waistbands digging round my middle...

I just pull the waist over my roll when I sit down. They fasten round my slimmest part so not uncomfortable to me.

lindyloo57 · 18/10/2022 17:10

@Pupwaist I don't know if it's a age thing (for me anyway) I'm 62, and for years would wear jeans for gardening, when going on a plane to hoilday, never had to undo my buttons then, i couldn't now to restricting round the tum, I just brought from m&s some cord look like leggings, lovely and warm and a supposed you call them jeggings pull on but they do have back pockets so look like jeans, I went up a size much more comfortable.

MinervaTerrathorn · 18/10/2022 17:42

Are people just wearing them too small? Mine are a size too big for my hips but if I bought the smaller size they would cut in at the waist if I sat down.
