Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

I was going to say the same @Luvacuppatea2 , the Dr Sebagh serum repair looks like it's 20ml in the picture so that gives some idea of sizes. Too small to be worth it IMO.

Genuinely think I might not get one this year. Selfridges is my favourite but I still don't think I want it enough. Still waiting on John Lewis I suppose.

BurningTheToast · 06/09/2022 18:09

I like the look of Fenwick’s - not too many DofD. But that Bioeffect serum seems to turn up in every GWP and it’s so claggy.

Pleased to see a matching shampoo and conditioner in there.

Is it me or is there an excess of exfoliating products in this year’s calendars? My skin feels tired just looking at some of them!

MidnightMeltdown · 06/09/2022 18:25

Luvacuppatea2 · 06/09/2022 18:00

No sizes mentioned against Fenwick contents yet - if I remember correctly, they tend to be on the small side?

They definitely look very small from the photo. It doesn't look as though it's worth £195 to me.

loudlylikealion · 06/09/2022 18:27

Does Gatineau ever do one?

PomRuns · 06/09/2022 18:31

Oh I didn't notice the sizes.

So I now have to avoid, roller balls, Margaret Dabbs, pillow sprays and teeny samples.

Zeeza · 06/09/2022 18:48

Yes, and it looks rather good. Only 12 days, but that's reflected in the price.

Ooh nice. Thank you!

Underparmummy · 06/09/2022 19:28

I got my mum the Fenwick's one last year, better value than some of the more well known calendars and she adored it! Looking for a different one for her this year (nov birthday!)

AprilLady · 06/09/2022 22:23

Thought the Fenwick’s offering was interesting, and the sub-£200 price is welcome. So I added it to the spreadsheet - guesstimating some of the sizes from the pictures and also knowing what the brands typically do for mini/travel sizes. I get an RRP of c£680 compared with the quoted c£700, so looks like I got it about right.

On analysis it’s a definite no, unfortunately. Going through the spreadsheet and updating a bit, Liberty is definitely emerging as a front runner for me so far.

On a separate note - who buys the penhaligons calendar??
beautyadventcalendar.net/penhaligons-advent-calendar-2022/ It’s such poor value - if you like the brand you could buy both their discovery sets and a full size of your favourite perfume and still have change compared with buying the calendar!

I thought the penhaligans calendar was absolutely beautiful. The best presented of the year by far. If I was a brand obsessive i would totally want it. It isn't a good deal, but it is delightful. Different people want different things.

KimmySchmitt · 07/09/2022 10:26

I was thinking Penhaligons would be a lovely gift, between people who have that sort of money to spend (i.e. not me!). I agree with April that it's probably one of the ones people are less likely to buy for themselves.

White Company released today. I'm marginally tempted (the FOMO is kicking in) but too much bath and body stuff for me. The home fragrance selection looks nice though.

A thing of beauty @AprilLady

OchonAgusOchonOh · 07/09/2022 11:28

Just realised the image doesn't appear in the quote. I was referring to your spreadsheet @AprilLady

MidnightMeltdown · 07/09/2022 13:22

There's a Debenhams one if anyone is looking for something under £100. Looks like a lot of minis though.

Doubleraspberry · 07/09/2022 14:35

Oh, Penhaligons is gorgeous. Some of the calendars aren't Christmassy enough for me really, but that hits the spot.

BrokeAsABone · 07/09/2022 14:50

loudlylikealion · 06/09/2022 18:27

Yes and it's one I'm definitely going to buy. I love the brand and addicted to the scent.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/09/2022 17:38

ASOS

beautyadventcalendar.net/asos-beauty-advent-calendars-2022/

Not for me but might suit someone looking for a calendar under £100

MidnightMeltdown · 07/09/2022 17:39

It does have a face roller though 😩

MidnightMeltdown · 07/09/2022 17:47

ASOS have clearly been reading the infamous HOF thread and have decided that they've been missing a trick by not putting stickers in their advent calendars

PomRuns · 07/09/2022 18:23

another to avoid !

come on John Lewis - we’re all waiting (maybe they are feeling the pressure).

IconicKitty · 07/09/2022 18:37

Birchbox £85

beautyadventcalendar.net/birchbox-advent-calendar-2022/

I think this looks quite good bar the gua sha

AprilLady · 07/09/2022 19:42

@MidnightMeltdown yes, I was also bemused by the stickers. Sadly the ASOS calendar looks pretty uninteresting - but that may be because their target market is many years younger than me. I think any of LF, Next or even Glossy Box would be better multi-brand calendar picks in that price range.

@Zeeza and others, that is an interesting perspective on Penhaligons. I guess I’m not that taken by the packaging and, with one exception (not Halfeti!) I have been pretty underwhelmed by their perfumes, so perhaps I’m a bit biased. If I was going for an extravagant, poor value but lovely calendar, it would be Diptyque for me

@OchonAgusOchonOh thanks 😀

Giftwithpurchase · 07/09/2022 19:46

I think asos would be brilliant for a teen/early 20s - I would have loved that 20 years ago haha .. great value & nice selection of skin and makeup. Plus the 20% off makes it good value 👍

Yes, it does. I think it may need to get added to the spreadsheet. Currently leaning towards CB but obviously need to be sure😀

MidnightMeltdown · 07/09/2022 20:34

Yeah to be fair, I probably would've loved an asos calendar as a teenager. I wouldn't have got one though. My mother would have balked at the idea of spending £85 on an advent calendar!
