Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

I've just bought the benefit one for my daughter. Looks good!

Orangeslemon · 19/08/2022 11:01

I notice the description for the Liberty calendar has been updated now and it does say the Uoma mascara is blue (if you zoom in on the image I’m pretty sure it’s the blue one pictured too). Seems an odd and wasteful choice – there can’t be many people who would get use out of a blue mascara.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 11:06

I reckon it's because they've got a stack of them that they can't sell.

I very much suspect that it's same reason that Net a Porter has contained gua sha stones two years running. They better not include one this year!

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 11:16

This is why I don't like getting makeup in advent calendars. More often than not it's bad colour choices. Would have thought that mascara was a safe option though!

I need to move it to the "nonsense you'll never use" row then.

AprilLady · 19/08/2022 12:00

@OchonAgusOchonOh do you have a “give to a DD” column? That is where a blue mascara would sit for me - my DD could probably carry it off and even look good in it. But agree it’s an odd choice in a calendar mostly aimed at - ahem - “more mature” ladies.

PomRuns · 19/08/2022 12:30

Liberty is definitely out for me in that case. Don’t let me down John Lewis.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 12:39

Yes when you're paying almost £10 per drawer, a blue mascara, a sheet mask, and miniature shower gels are not items that you want to find.

There are some nice items though so I'm keeping it as a possible.
Want to see NAP, selfridges, space nk and JL before making a decision.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 19/08/2022 12:41

@AprilLady. Good idea. She'd definitely rock the blue. Although she rarely wears make-up

Housewife2010 · 19/08/2022 14:02

Also the Sunday Riley eye cream size has now been taken out of the description. Yesterday on the Beauty Advent Calendar website it said full size 15 ml - which is worth £65. However it looks like a small tube rather than the bulky usual packaging. I reckon it's a 5 ml travel size. For me, the 2 perfumes are the stand out items for me, but if one of the mascaras is blue and the eye cream I really like is a mini, the Liberty AC has less value for me. I'm thinking more of CB, but that doesn't have any really stand out products for me.

You just made my day. I want it even more now.

Holland & Barrett - out mid-September at £55. I had H&B IN 2020 and thought it really good but didn't look as appealing last year and not sure about this years contents either.

Is anyone at all anywhere buying Augustinus Bader? I think it’s in every single calendar? I’ve used it and not found it very exciting.

Housewife2010 · 19/08/2022 20:31

The Augustinus Bader lip balm is lovely. I've had it in a few beauty boxes. I love it but wouldn't spend £36 on it. I've tried the rich cream and it's ok.

I've had the AB face oil in various calendars and GWPs and I really like it, but it's so horrifically expensive I'm unlikely to ever buy it. I don't think anybody I know has ever heard of it?

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 20:39

H&B have hiked the price too - I think it was still £40 last year?

I know that they're all going up, but nearly 40% is a lot for someone looking for a budget calendar

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 20:41

Someone must like AB cream because I've offloaded a few on eBay over the years!

And it's got a sodding gua sha stone!

Maybe they buy them to put in the calendars

There is obviously a massive warehouse of the things somewhere that they've been offloading on the people who decide what goes into calendars.

Psst, want a gua sha? Going cheap.

clary · 19/08/2022 20:54

Three mascaras in the Elle calendar! Also what is the first pink item?

I'm not thrilled by it tbh; I really want some yummy skincare i can't normally afford.

Hoping for great things from JLP and NaP

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 20:58

@OchonAgusOchonOh I think you're right. It's crap from a bygone trend that they can't sell, so we'll be getting gua sha stones in advent calendars until they've emptied the warehouse.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/08/2022 21:00

I think it's some kind of face washing tool @clary

Elle doesn't appeal to me either. It seems overpriced for what you get

Fleecy · 19/08/2022 21:58

The Rich Cream was in Liberty 2020 and I really liked it. My make up went on better and I didn't need much of it. Really suited my skin. But I'm not paying that much for a moisturiser!
