Then what do you wear? Or is shivering the height of cool?!

Stuck in my head now. I'll never unhear it! 😁

under someone's bed
you made a thread and said I was your favourite...

I'm not a cardigan person and never have been, but I bought this wrap top in black a couple of years ago and it is so versatile.

I wear it with t-shirts and jeans. I wear it over long-sleeved tops. I wear it as an extra layer on a night out. I've even worn it over a dress to a graduation. You can wear it 3 or 4 different ways, depending on the style and warmth you want. It's thin enough to shove in a bag, and it crumples a bit but after wearing it 5 minutes the crumples drop out, and despite being thin and light it's quite warm.

Fulfils the functions of a cardigan, and more, without actually being a cardigan.

That wrap looks great but I've tried those, and ballet style cardigans that tie, and the wrap bit is always lower than my natural waist so they don't fit right (and accentuate my belly something chronic).

I suppose the twinset look might be 'dated' but it is a silly word, I would say it is dated to even call something ....dated nowadays. Anything goes, although subcultures and social groups do tend to imitate those that they look up to.

I like a linen cardi with shorts in summer, to pop on if a breeze comes along. A nice quality slouchy thing if im not in the mood for a hoodie!

I used to have a lovely cropped gold thread cardi that looked gorgeous over a cami or buttined with jeans for a night out. It really depends which cardi and how you wear it.

O only ever hear this word trotted out on MN though, I don't think anyone out there even cares. Using 'dated' as a descriptor does smack of some sort of anxiety or confusion about how to dress.

Writing a fairly innocuous item from one's wardrobe is a ludicrous as eliminating a food group, but people do get all up in their gills about it. I blame modern decadence: we have so many choices we don't know what to do with them!

Twinsets are actually totally back. Usually in cool patterns. I’ve seen them in H&M, Urban Outfitters, Uniqlo. I see loads of younger girls wearing them too at uni.

I don’t give a fuck. Cardigans are great. There is tellingly no equivalent male term for “frumpy”.

This^

Duster coats, denim jackets, leather jackets.

thebabessavedme · 03/07/2022 08:39

I predict that cardigans will be very much 'in' this winter after the winter fuel bills start coming out.

Along with fingerless gloves and woolly hats as indoor wear.

Fashion is designed to get you to spend more money on clothes than you need, fast fashion the second largest cause of climate change. If a cardigan is comfy and practical, and can wash easily, then wear it.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/07/2022 10:14

I love cardigans and will never give them up. Then again at almost 60 I don't give a fuck about fashion. I wear what I like and what I know suits me.

TIL “frumpy” is specifically for women!

About five years ago I was really impressed with the range of fashions I saw on todays youth. They really seemed to push the barriers of the narrow minded box of what was considered fashionable. The mantra seemed to be more about individual taste.

But that seems to have disappeared as fast as it arrived.

Cardigans are woolly!

OUP says a cardigan is "a knitted jumper fastening down the front."

I’ve flirted with sweatshirts and hoodies, but my one true love is the cardigan. I don’t care if they’re frumpy, I’ll wear them forever.

Grin at the not-a-cardigan ‘wrap top’. That’s just fancy marketing speak for waterfall cardigan.

@DuesToTheDirt embrace it, your amongst cardigan loving frumpy friends
