So if cardigans are ‘out, dated and frumpy’

Then what do you wear? Or is shivering the height of cool?!

There should be a National Cardigan Day, maybe in early Autumn.

Well my mum is currently knitting me one, we're frumpy, outdated and proud here 😁

I love a hand knit!

OompaLoompaa · 01/07/2022 18:20

I love sweatshirts, no idea if they’re ‘in’.

ListerLess · 01/07/2022 18:25

@ArabeI Me too!

I spotted this Muthahood one and was telling my mum about it, she said she'd make me something very much like it. That's a win, I think! 😁

How can cardigans be out? They're just a light jacket. Honestly who makes up all these stupid fucking fashion rules?

ElderflowerTonic · 01/07/2022 18:29

😂@ErrolTheDragon. I wear a fleece 90% of the time and change to a cardigan when I'm making an effort. I'll have to run away from S&B too.

velvetvixen · 01/07/2022 18:29

That mallow cardi is pretty!

OldKingCole · 01/07/2022 18:29

cardigans have been considered frumpy for years!! I type as I look down and see I’m wearing one 😀

woodhill · 01/07/2022 18:31

Cardigans are my comfort blanket

Bearsan · 01/07/2022 18:37

Cardigans was about the only thing that I related to on that thread. Especially chunky knit😮
I don't own a single cardigan and haven't since school so....Hoodies, open shirts, soft jacket, long sleeve t-shirt, 3/4 sleeve top, two t-shirts, or thin jumpers, blazer, biker jacket, denim jacket/gilet.

CuriousCatfish · 01/07/2022 18:37

I love a cardigan. I care not if they are 'frumpy'

mathanxiety · 01/07/2022 18:37

I'll never give mine up. I have a specific cardigan for every conceivable turn of the weather, and colours for almost every mood, as well as floral and striped. Short, long, fine, wooly, silky, chunky, with and without pockets, buttons, belts, hoods, you name it, I have it.

woodhill · 01/07/2022 18:39

So do I, no yucking it over your head, so practical

HearMeSnore · 01/07/2022 18:45

Maybe we're supposed to replace cardigans with those scarf/sweater/wrap shenanigans that I keep seeing advertised. It always makes me smile... it reminds me of the "Thneed" from The Lorax.

IKR. And MN threads say everything is out...including shackets.

I have three which I got this year. I didn't necessarily plan them to replace cardis but they sort of have.

coodawoodashooda · 01/07/2022 18:53

Are boucle cardigans acceptable

Pinotpleasure · 01/07/2022 18:53

I lived overseas for 24 years:

Singapore, 85 miles north of the Equator. Always hot - but still wore cardigans in the freezing cold cinemas with air conditioning set at arctic temperatures!

Switzerland (between Zurich and Lucerne). The Summer weather was often hot, but evenings could be much cooler. Cardigans easy to carry around instead of a more cumbersome jacket.

New Jersey/New York City; Extremely hot, humid Summer weather. (Just checked the weather for the July 4th weekend - 30C to 33C sunny with possible thunderstorms. Cardigans rarely needed, maybe a very thin one for air conditioned cinemas.

Moved back to England (south west coast).
What is Summer???? So far this year every evening has been very cool (even a little cold at times). Even during the daytime it’s not very warm if not out in direct sun - it can feel chilly if a large cloud blocks the sunlight or when the wind is blowing. I’ve hardly worn my shorts or short sleeved tops and T shirts. Dresses and skirts haven’t seen the light of day yet! Unfortunately I just feel cold so easily.

Soooo - the British weather is so unpredictable and even if the sun does come out it can turn cloudy and wet a few hours later. No lovely warm, sultry evenings. I can’t cope without taking a cardigan along with me to take on or off as the temperatures fluctuate.

Sweatshirts/fleeces/hoodies/packable down puffer jackets/sweaters are fine with jeans, shorts or leggings but not with a pretty dress or skirt. Jackets are sometimes not lightweight enough and either too casual or formal.

I’ve got a few cotton Summer cardigans (mostly Fat Face/White Stuff/Next and a favourite old Mantaray from Debenhams). I can shove them in a large handbag or backpack (with often an umbrella lol) and pull them out when the temperature drops, or even just drape over my arm. I’m never giving them up in this climate!

Definitely a win!

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 01/07/2022 18:57

I thought they had been considered unfashionable for years and were therefore due for a comeback?

Seriously now. Wear what you like and what suits you. You wouldn't see me dead in a hoodie, I have never seen one that looked good. Other people like them. Whatever. I'm not going to start a thread about them <shrug>

justasking111 · 01/07/2022 19:10

This spring I ordered a coatigan online when it came it's a cardigan a nice cardigan long and warm.

I do lose them though. Lost one at an airport, one in the hospital but I think that was stolen. I'm always leaving them at other people's houses because I get too warm

Jellykat · 01/07/2022 19:15

Just seen a lovely one in the Toast sale (still too expensive though)
I love my cardis, theyre a top for all seasons in my eyes!

Primprom · 01/07/2022 19:24

Acunningruse · 01/07/2022 16:34

Shackets, denim jacket, leather jacket, hoodie, denim shirt worn open, linen shirt worn open.

Not suggesting any of these are any 'cooler' than a cardigan, just that there are many alternatives.

In that same thread they said hoodie, leather jackets, denim jackets were dated too 🤣 I shall be wearing all + cardigans. Oh and ballet flats. Love a ballet flat leather jacket combo, so chic.

I was so grateful for my fat face half sleeve cardigan yesterday when temperatures dropped and it rained (plus brolly)
