Is this dress inappropriate for a wedding?

My boyfriend said he thinks this dress isn't appropriate for a wedding because it's red? This is new to me? The last two weddings we've been to I've wore red and he didn't say anything. So I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are is this appropriate?

I don't know what thread this belongs in!

Jyst had an idea OP - ask the bride's opinion, if she gives it the thumbs up, no worries. 💃Have a lovely time, what ever you wear.

Is it a Big Fat Gypsy style wedding?
if not then it’s not appropriate

I was going to say that but thought I'd get in trouble!!

I'm a gypsy and I find this offensive. You're ridiculing native dress. Would you make fun of sarees or kimonos?

Bobbins36 · 25/06/2022 11:32

Looks like a cheap, nasty flamenco costume, the colour is the least offensive part. Def not appropriate for a wedding.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/06/2022 11:33

I'm sure I've read somewhere (probably a bit rubbishy!) that wearing red is a signal you've slept with the groom.

I remembered because I had just worn a red dress to a wedding! A deeper red though, and it was in December... I'd never wear red to a summer wedding.

Maireas · 25/06/2022 11:34

I've just had a look at Pretty Little Thing website. It's certainly a place to buy revealing outfits!
There are quite a few crackers on the wedding guest section, although not for those that favour bra wearing.
On the plus side you can get a dress for a tenner.
I rather like that Vivien Leigh one posted upthread. You'd certainly cut a dash!

Ouchmytoe100 · 25/06/2022 11:34

Honestly i also think that changing your dress for the evening part of a wedding is very inappropriate unless you're the bride!

WhereIsVillanelleWhenNeeded · 25/06/2022 11:35

If you like it, wear it. I’m sure you’ll look fabulous!

What a load of shite.

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 25/06/2022 11:35

I like the dress but maybe keep the sleeves for the night do rather than the wedding part!
You look good in red!!

Arenanewbie · 25/06/2022 11:35

I don’t think people are saying that changing into a different dress later on the day is somehow wrong. They are saying that changing into THAT dress even for the evening part would be inappropriate. They are putting comments in a jokey or sarcastic way just in a spirit of MN but the main message is the same: It’s not forbidden to wear red unless it’s a wedding where the bride wears red. However the red dress you’ve posted is not suitable for the wedding. You would be admitted to the wedding of course but people would make unflattering assumptions about you. It might complicate your relationship with your BF ( especially if you are a plus one) or with the bride and groom. You will look a bit stupid whereas in reality you are beautiful and can look stunning.

KatieKline · 25/06/2022 11:36

Wear the dress if:

a - your goal is to upstage the bride
b - ruin any picture you are in
c - make the day about you
d - you secretly hate weddings and never want to be invited to one again

The dress is completely inappropriate for a wedding, day or evening attire. I have only ever been to one wedding where just the bride changed her dress for the evening, and this was so she could dance.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 25/06/2022 11:38

YOU CAN'T WEAR THAT TO A WEDDING!!!
(Yes I am shouting)

Nightclub maybe. But wedding? Definitely not.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/06/2022 11:40

What a load of shite.

Oh it probably is! Hence saying I'd probably read it somewhere really rubbishy.

But it's another nod towards the fact that people don't seem to think red is appropriate at a wedding for whatever reason.

OP I live in Essex and even here that would be too much

Iamthehickeymonster · 25/06/2022 11:41

I love your style at the last wedding OP.

Normando91 · 25/06/2022 11:41

The dress, quite frankly, is hideous.

And you can bet coming from PLT, the quality is sub par too.

IMarchToADifferentDrummer · 25/06/2022 11:42

Maireas · 25/06/2022 11:23

You said you'd been to two recently.

Tbf, I can understand the 'two recently' as we're getting back to normal after covid. (Although it's still ongoing).
So many people are now having their weddings, and summer is usually the time for weddings!!

Whoatealltheminieggs · 25/06/2022 11:44

I think it’s fine but you’d have to be very slim and very dolled up to pull it off.

Quweenie · 25/06/2022 11:46

I don’t think you should wear this to a wedding.

BUT I think it would be even worse if you changed into this and came back down for the evening! I’d be mortified.

No guests change their outfit for the evening…

Sparkletastic · 25/06/2022 11:48

It's too much and it will look as cheap as the price indicates IRL

Marvellousmadness · 25/06/2022 11:48

You sound like an attention seeking 20yo.
Bleh.

Yeh, but being to two recently surely means he/she/they saw what people were wearing?

NC12345665 · 25/06/2022 11:49

prepared101 · 25/06/2022 09:55

Everyone: don't wear it

OP: I've bought it but might wear something else

Smile

I know. Why do some people even bother asking for advice when they just do what the hell they want anyway?
