Is this dress inappropriate for a wedding?

My boyfriend said he thinks this dress isn't appropriate for a wedding because it's red? This is new to me? The last two weddings we've been to I've wore red and he didn't say anything. So I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are is this appropriate?

I don't know what thread this belongs in!

It got delivered today 😅

It’s lovely, I love the cream version, also the spots one is cool.

Zonder · 25/06/2022 17:04

It's a striking dress and I'm sure you look great in it but it's really not appropriate for a wedding.

Stravaig · 25/06/2022 17:09

So, bare shoulders, bare back, bare legs, half-bare breasts, in a bright red fabric. What are you hoping to convey, OP, wearing this to a wedding?

Coughee · 25/06/2022 17:13

People might not like the dress but the op has more class and grace than the absolute bullying dick heads on here who are coming on to stick the boot in after FOURTEEN PAGES of negative comments. What the fuck is wrong with people? Round of applause to the op for not rising to it. I'd rather be her then any of the nasty arseholes on here.

Ninananna · 25/06/2022 17:17

Don't ask the question if you don't want the answer.

I’m with you.

Trying their best to destroy a young girls confidence but well done OP for not rising to it.

The overwhelming majority of comments have emphasised that the op is very attractive and would look good in almost anything.

But that the dress is a poor choice for a wedding guest. Which was the question she asked in the first place. But apparently didn't want answered.

I don't see anyone putting her down.

Ninananna · 25/06/2022 17:31

General concensus is that the dress is not suitable for a wedding guest. In any colour, classy it is not.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 25/06/2022 17:32

Well, I think it really does look lovely on you OP, whether it gets an outing to the wedding or not.

humanpotato · 25/06/2022 17:33

I don't know why people are saying don't ask a question I don't want the answer to? I haven't responded negatively towards anybody's opinion? And I did want to know peoples thoughts on the dress?

OP, I go for the one or the other role.

Either strapless, or shoulderless, or short. Not all of the above. It's a lovely dress but not for a wedding.

ImprobablePuffin · 25/06/2022 17:36

The slit is so high in that dress I'd be worried an over enthusiastic dance move would leave my fanny on show!

I see the ageist comment is still there. Mumsnet condones certain types of ageism. What a shock.

Hoppinggreen · 25/06/2022 18:02

Unless I have missed a lot of posts all I can see is people criticising the dress and it’s appropriateness for a wedding. I don’t think anyone has said anything nasty about OP personally.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 25/06/2022 18:05

In some cultures red means you've slept with the groom...

BruceAndNosh · 25/06/2022 18:07

I'd be concerned at the way the sleeves attach to top of the dress. Any movement of your arms is going to be tugging at the top.

You look fantastic in the dress but the fabric looks cheap

Yeh. Every time. These posters think they'll never get older don't they.

JiminyGlick · 25/06/2022 18:11

It’s even worse in your photo! Sorry OP, it looks tacky.

No indeed. You've been perfectly reasonable throughout. You asked for opinions, you got them, you're wearing the dress. That's it!

Purpleavocado · 25/06/2022 18:12

I like the dress on you, but it's the bride's big day, and the focus should be on her. I'd save the dress for something else.

Forpoxsake · 25/06/2022 18:16

There is definitely a tone or bullying here - snide remarks about being slutty or going to a big fat gypsy wedding - it’s jealousy pure and simple.
there are some helpful posters who say they wouldn’t wear it but she could carry it off.
there has been hardly any attempt to ask whether OPs friends wear similar clothes, are a dressy group etc to ascertain whether that dress would blend in or stand out.
well done OP for not rising to it.
nest of vipers indeed!

catfunk · 25/06/2022 18:17

It would look wonderful with a fruit bowl on your head
