Which engagement ring?

Hey lovely MN ladies,

My lovely BIL has narrowed down 2 engagement ring choices for his gf.
She wants white gold/halo or pave or both. He's shown me the styles she likes and he's on the right tracks!
Which one in your opinion do you prefer? (there is a video of each ring under the pic if that helps).

ps ignore the cut/clarity as this will be changed it's just about the style.

The second one.
Having a double hand may look very busy when you add a wedding band and any future eternity type rings.

Both are beautiful but I prefer the first one. How exciting! :)

I like the first, I like the split shank. Personally I wanted a plain band without stones, but this ring isn't for me so not sure why people are saying neither? Clearly it's the style the bride to be has indicated she likes.
Also FWIW that's where DH got my ring from and I always get compliments (also have a split shank (3) halo but with a sapphire as Central stone)
With either she is likely to need a wedding ring made to fit, that's what we did and it was no more expensive than buying off rack

I'm not sure whether you mean she's tried these actual rings on or just these kind of styles, but.... The first one looks too wide and uncomfortable for everyday wear to me, I could be wrong.
I wouldn't buy the pear cut unless she's actually said she wants that cut as it's a bit of a love or hate cut.
I would choose the second personally, both are very pretty rings

fwiw op I have a halo cut diamond and didn’t struggle at all to fine a wedding ring. Also, I always thought I wanted a solitaire but now dh totally blindsided me with this and I absolutely love it. I had no Input into it but love that he spent a lot of time looking into rings and researching what he thought I’d like, but that he would also like for me to wear every day forever - it means so much to me that he put all that effort in.

isn't a pear cut diamond the type of ring that one of the SATC characters is bought, and they all hate it? Just mentioning in case there's some widespread anti-pear cut sentiment.

Honestly OP could he not just take her with him…just kidding. I hope he’s not planning a romantic proposal for her either, if he does anything other than fling the ring at her from the sofa while she’s washing up then he’s just being ostentatious.

as for weddings they better be popping down the registry office on the bus on a Wednesday morning else they’re just showing off.

I think she would like either as he has chosen it himself. Our daughter and son in law did window shopping for the ring so he could get an idea of what she liked. He chose one and did a very romantic present treasure hunt on xmas day with the final package ( the ring) at the top of the tree. She loves her ring because he chose it, personally I prefer the second one.

But pears aren’t for everyone so would check if she mentioned shapes along with style when telling him her preferences

To me they're very different styles though for very different people and finger shape!

But I'm confused why if he knows her style, he's got his SIL asking on Mumsnet! I'm not being Debbie Downer, just seems contradictory and so a bit confusing.

Sounds like they've/he's got something lovely planned though and that she's going to be a welcome addition (formally) to the family as you sound excited about it too! Lucky woman!

OK, sorry, I'll leave aside the matter of who chooses. I don't like the split shank style, so prefer the second one from that POV, but I'd prefer the main stone to be round rather than pear-shaped if it were me. With the second one she'd have to have a shaped wedding ring, which might look odd if she didn't want to wear the engagement ring all the time, have they discussed that?

I love pear shaped diamonds but even it it suited me I'd never pick one unless it was for a cocktail ring (I'm just too clutsy for added points). So, the first one or the third option someone posted.

I remember that episode! I’ve always liked a pear shaped diamond, Victoria Beckhams engagement ring was pear shaped iirc, but now whenever I see one I do think how it was much derided by Carrie and co.

Are they lab diamonds or ‘real’ ones? They seem a bit bling for the price
