Why do they make white pants?

Am I the only one who hates white pants? They show up everything and I never like to wear them just in case. Yet so many packs of pants will have at least one white pair.

Does anyone actually like them?

LOL @WellTidy I'm the same with the veg peeler! My Mum still comments on it and why on earth I don't use a sharp knife, as though me having one somehow invalidates what she does. I've had the peeler for over 20 years now...

Thankfully she has no idea I no longer wear white knickers Grin. She'd be scandalised by my black ones!

Housetreecar · 12/04/2022 10:53

I only wear black or flesh coloured. White looks grey after a couple of washes

Mimijamroll · 12/04/2022 11:02

They're not so bad once you cease to have periods.

@NeverSayNeverAgainMaybe

It's because white used to be the colour of choice for all undergarments or anything that came into contact with skin because you could bleach it back to white. Colours and cuffs, for example, used to be removable and you'd boil wash and/or bleach them. Same for chemises and drawers. Now there's elastic in knickers I guess bleaching and boiling is less practical, but some things live on. I do have a few white knickers. But they're all lacy and, eh hem, rarely stay on for long so they haven't stained. The rest of my undies are black or bold, bright colours. Because why not?!
Was just coming on to say this, it was traditionally a very practical colour for undergarments due to the ability to bleach it. Plus cheaper than dying fabric with colours.

Just one of those things we've kept doing despite the fabrics changing, and the invention of washing machines etc.

Whites/ nudes/ light pinks are my favourites. Only buy blacks for time of the month! I’m pale so black looks harsh on my skin tone.

On a light hearted slight deviation, cabin crew dress codes have always been some of the strictest. BOAC who evolved into BA years ago had a rule book for cabin crew which stated “underwear, if worn, shall be white”!!!!

@RidingMyBike yes! You’ve hit the nail on the head. My choice of something different somehow invalidates what she chose. There are so many instances - I don’t put valances on the bed, which she cannot understand, and she has always had valances and feels that they make a bed look ‘finished’. I see them as something else to have to wash now and again, or move to one side when I need something out of the drawers under the bed.

My parents very kindly offered to buy me sofas for my first flat, so off we trotted to Laura Ashley and I chose what I liked. They were cheaper than what my parents had thought they’d be paying, so they offered to buy the matching pouffe, which I really politely declined. But my parents have always had a pouffe to put their feet up on (still do!) and they really couldn’t understand why, in my mid 20s, I wouldn’t want one too.

I wear white ones if I am wearing a white bra. I like them to match 🙂

liveforsummer · 12/04/2022 17:13

Oh and I like them in the summer when I have a tan

heartofgrass · 12/04/2022 17:19

If I'm wearing a white bra I HAVE to wear white pants. Otherwise it's wearing Monday with Tuesday and that's a no go!

... and what would people in hospital think if you were run over with mismatching underwear? Shock My grandmother's worst nightmare... it could end up reported in the papers - apparently Wink
