Why do they make white pants?

BiscuitLover3678 · 11/04/2022 18:56

Am I the only one who hates white pants? They show up everything and I never like to wear them just in case. Yet so many packs of pants will have at least one white pair.

Does anyone actually like them?

I mainly wear white bras, white thong (can't stand knickers) and white socks!

RippleQueen · 11/04/2022 22:26

I hate white bras too.

LondonQueen · 11/04/2022 22:29

I almost always wear black, white ones are very unflattering.

Squidlette · 11/04/2022 23:00

I don't own a single white bra anymore. Off white or pale pink is much better for me under white shirts or vests. White always seems to glow through.

Norgie · 11/04/2022 23:16

White knickers for me. I only wash them with other whites on a sixty wash with an extra rinse so nothing goes grey.
For those who mentioned ' bleaching ' on black gussets, use a panty liner to stop it.

Mermaidwaves · 11/04/2022 23:39

@CuppaTeaNeeded

Feels embarrassed asking but ….

Does anyone else find the gusset in black pants get almost bleached, like yellow / reddish marks?

Me! I prefer black Knicks but the crotch always turns orange! What's that about?
ouch321 · 11/04/2022 23:48

But it's so gross to wear dark or black underwear as then you can't tell if it's stained.

With white if you have a leak you can see and get it in the wash straight away or chuck it in the bin.

KimikosNightmare · 11/04/2022 23:53

@Deux

I love white pants and my perfect pack would have 2 white, 2 black and 2 nude.
Same here. Although I have bright pink , orange, blue and yellow. And navy.
bigyellowTpot · 12/04/2022 00:03

I think previous poster may mean black underwear can be problematic because it really shows up the creamy whiteish coloured vaginal discharge.
I also agree white or very light coloured underwear is a pain for period time.

RonaldMcDonald · 12/04/2022 00:34

The orange crotch is the bleaching of the cotton by urea from your urine

RonaldMcDonald · 12/04/2022 00:37

I think nude or a dark colour. For all underwear. Never white. They show under everything

Kleptronic · 12/04/2022 00:54

A healthy vagina has friendly bacteria which helps make vaginal fluids slightly acidic. This is healthy as it prevents the growth of unwanted bacteria, and it can also fade the dye in cotton knickers.

mrsmacmc · 12/04/2022 01:08

White pants give me the 'ick' prefer dark colours and have some nude ones too for lighter coloured trousers

AHungryCaterpillar · 12/04/2022 01:12

I can’t wear black ones as they stain orange for me as well which is worse than white!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/04/2022 02:34

I'm not certain but I think it was an EU Directive.
One of the most significant benefits of Brexit will be that it will allow the re-introduction of a number of colours and with new names;
Bottle Green (British Racing Green),
Navy (Royal Air Force Blue),
Red (Circle Line),
Black (Pants of Colour),
White (Truce).
There will be special packs of Red, White and Blue pants (Circle Line, Truce and Royal Air Force) specifically for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

bigyellowTpot · 12/04/2022 02:49

I thought Navy would have been royal navy blue not airforce??

fossilsmorefossils · 12/04/2022 02:57

@Hobbittingaroundtown

Isn’t it for wearing under light coloured things where eg black might show through?
I wish people would stop doing this. White under white shows up massively. A beige or light pink coloured pants don't show (if you're white).
StarlightLady · 12/04/2022 07:33

I don’t do white knickers or bras (reminds me of being back at school) and l don’t do beige (makes my crotch look as if its made of cardboard. And l don’t do multipacks (l want to choose what l want myself).

My top drawer is like l like to live my life in full colour. Pink, peach and even red “work” with lighter things.

I buy 2 pairs if matching knix when l buy a new bra and top up mainly with M&S Brazilians, which are often on offer and you can mix and match as you want.

Chasingsquirrels · 12/04/2022 07:46

@WellTidy

I was a teenager before I realised pants came in colours other than white. Hated wearing white pants then, dealing with periods and the inevitable stains that provoked much disapproval from my mum, and still dont like white pants! I have a couple of pairs but that is it.
I was in my 30s! I mean, I knew they came in other colours but it genuinely never occurred to me to buy other than white. It was only in my mid-40s that I brought a pack with multi-colours and I felt decadent doing that (standard M&S cotton bikinis). I have never owned a nude pair.
skodadoda · 12/04/2022 07:54
@skoda I nearly always wear black and never have visible stains. I guess all paler colours would still stain though
But the stains are still there 🤔

WellTidy · 12/04/2022 09:17

@Chasingsquirrels My mum is always surprised when she realises that I’ve made different purchasing decisions to those that she made. I think it’s because for years it never occurred to me to choose things that she wouldn’t have chosen for me. Nothing sinister, it’s just funny how we just fall into patterns. She was most surprised to find a vegetable peeler in my drawer (‘but I thought you used a sharp knife?’ No mum, I quite like a peeler) and (years ago) roll-on deodorant instead of spray.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/04/2022 10:19

@bigyellowTpot

I thought Navy would have been royal navy blue not airforce??
It was decided by committee and the Air Commodore had the casting vote. Hmm
Octomore · 12/04/2022 10:22

I've spent 20 years menstruating at least 1 day out of 4 and white pants just seem utterly idiotic for women.

I'd never thought of it like this before, but you are 100% right.

NeverSayNeverAgainMaybe · 12/04/2022 10:33

It's because white used to be the colour of choice for all undergarments or anything that came into contact with skin because you could bleach it back to white. Colours and cuffs, for example, used to be removable and you'd boil wash and/or bleach them. Same for chemises and drawers. Now there's elastic in knickers I guess bleaching and boiling is less practical, but some things live on. I do have a few white knickers. But they're all lacy and, eh hem, rarely stay on for long so they haven't stained. The rest of my undies are black or bold, bright colours. Because why not?!
