Can I wear this to a wedding!

Hey there,

Having spent the last two years in jeans and running gear, I have totally lost the ability to dress myself!

Can I wear this to a wedding? www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/kitty-midi-shirt-dress-ivory-lemon-fizz/sty-w0705-ltu?cat=C1_S2_G4

About the wedding - Extended family, will be child rangling, catholic cathedral then lux (maybe slightly ostentatious?) hotel for reception.

Would plan to wear with wedges and realistically accessorise with huge bag full of kids stuff…

@Kittykatmacbill - I think that originally posted dress could look lovely - it looks festive and happy - but then I am one who does not mind a friend tuning up in black and white to my wedding so what do I know. Grin

CinnamonJellyBeans · 13/03/2022 19:58

Lovely dress, but I feel that shirtwaist dresses have a workwear vibe. It is too casual for a wedding.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 13/03/2022 20:06

Personally I love it!

Whatwouldnanado · 13/03/2022 20:06

I think it's perfect. Hope you have a great time.

Anyone else actually like some of the stuff Kirsty Allsop wears? ducks and runs

I like it OP, for a summer wedding with some nice shoes and you could wear it with flats and a cardi for less formal events

I don't actually know who Kirsty Alllsopp is but having Googled her, yes I do like her stuff.

A lot of her dresses are from Samantha Sung. I've got about half a dozen Samantha Sung dresses.

I like it. I'd wear with green shoes and a posh straw purse www.wolfandbadger.com/uk/kiaz-wheat-straw-clutch-seashell-tan/. Hair in a low bun, no hat.

WutheringCripes · 13/03/2022 23:09

It is lovely so if you like it go for it! Shirt dress style is so flattering.

My only suggestion would be to maybe find a similar style in slightly more formal fabric - that would make all the difference.

This doesn't have a collar sadly, but you get the gist.

No, it's nice for a fancy lunch near a river, but not for a cathedral wedding with a swanky hotel reception. Wedges would be more suitable for a wedding in a barn.

You need something floaty and less natural fabric. I like what RantyPanties and CoffeeBeansGalore posted. They are summery and also eveningy.

Renting out a dress doesn't mean going full on couture.

See anything here?

KimikosNightmare · 14/03/2022 09:11

The dress suggested by Rantypants was the drably coloured nylon one. Coffeebeansgalore"s was the busty barmaid wench dress. Rantypants one is non- descript . Coffeebeansgalore"s one was awful- unless busty barmaid wench in a Carry On Film is the desired look.

Like a couple of other posters I live next to a cathedral- the dress is fine.

Blackberrybunnet · 14/03/2022 11:12

That dress is gorgeous! accessorize it to THE MAX with a huge fabulous and very high wedges. Wear a ton of make up and great big gold hoops, maybe wear a little tiny shawl draped low. you can change into flats for the dancing later on. If you pimp it up it won't look too casual, and its a dress you'll get loads of mileage out of after the wedding.

MrsBerthaRochester · 14/03/2022 13:06

I usually hate Boden but I love that dress and if anyone has a decent discount code I would buy it!

CurbsideProphet · 14/03/2022 13:24

I think it's nicer to wear a pretty and flattering dress that suits you and can be worn again. Guests really don't need to be trussed up to their eyeballs, as though they're heading to the red carpet and not to a friend's spring / summer wedding.

stripeyflowers · 14/03/2022 17:21

I love it SO much but I can't help thinking it is a bit too casual. Much nicer than the awful recommended jewelled, mushroom coloured dress, though!

implantreplace · 14/03/2022 17:24

My wedding was so intimate (just closest friends and family) and I wanted each and every single one of them there so much
That they could have rocked up in wearing jeans and flip flops and

A) I don’t think I’d have noticed. Just so happy to see them
B) not given a damn if I had noticed

PinkGinBigGrin · 14/03/2022 17:33

It's a lovely dress but too casual IMO.

implantreplace · 14/03/2022 17:37

Those saying
Not appropriate
Too causal

Had a guest turned up to your wedding in this and you’d set the dress code and it didn’t quite fit it…. Would you have judged?had a cats bum expression?

I honestly don’t was so happy to see the people who came, and they all looked lovely to me because I wanted them there and it was my wedding!!

parabalabalabala · 14/03/2022 18:08

@implantreplace I agree!

Also the OP is being really sensible in her choice. It's a lovely dress that will look fabulous with the right accessories. But, it will also be perfect to wear for pub lunches, meals out etc afterwards.

What's the point of buying something really wedding-y that will then sit in the wardrobe never to be worn again as it's too dressy for everyday life?

implantreplace · 14/03/2022 18:09

It’s a beautiful dress

But even if it wasn’t

Surely no bridge / groom (or indeed remotely decent guest) would deem inappropriate?

Clearly - they would!

RockinHorseShit · 14/03/2022 18:46

I think it's perfectly fine if you dress it up a bit. Lose the wedges, too casual & go for smarter plain coloured fancier shoes. Irregular Choice have some great low heels that are very comfortable & would lift this dress up to be more suitable for the type of wedding you describe. I'd maybe suggest lemon & add a smart cropped jacket to match the colour the shoes & chunky retro jewellery & bag in say orange or one of the other colours in the print

RallySooney · 14/03/2022 18:54

It's lovely. I'm attending a wedding in June and I'm considering this dress.

bonfireheart · 14/03/2022 19:05

It's lovely OP and much much nicer than any of the alternative suggestions. Have a lovely time.

Gladioli23 · 14/03/2022 19:15

I really like it OP and I would be totally happy to go to a wedding wearing it.

If you wanted to look at bombshell dresses like the previous poster suggested they do a shirt dress style which I haven't purchased but keep looking for a reason for purchase. E.g

www.bombshellhq.com/collections/dresses/products/liberty-print-toucan-hide-in-tana-lawn-for-the-love-of-pockets-dress

BasiliskStare · 14/03/2022 19:21

@Kittykatmacbill - if you like the dress I think it looks really nice & if someone had worn that to my wedding I would be happy - In my opinion if my friends and family had made an effort ( I would not judge their clothes but just happy they had turned up looking nice ) 3 guests turned up in trouser suits - 27 years ago not quite the thing but they looked nice . Honestly I would go with what you have chosen

Not sure I ever did a school run in something like that - it was either work clothes or comfy pilates pants and a top. My maternal grandmother always dressed like the Queen mother - I don't

Duchess379 · 14/03/2022 19:31

I think it's lovely! With some glitzy accessories it will look perfect for a wedding x
