Going to a wedding and dress code is black tie and ceremony is at 4.30pm. Have got this dress from Ghost which I’m hoping will do but no idea what shoes... any ideas or suggestions? I can’t manage super high stilettos anymore. There will be dancing!

@stuntbubbles

The Repetto pair is great. I’m on the T-bar train.

But for closed-toe, block heel, velvet requirements, maybe something like these (££££):

Bag I would go either supsersized clutch or miniaudière, nothing in-between:

That website has a lot of beautiful shoes which are ruined by the clompy, ugly block heels.

These ones

I get they're not everyone's cup of tea but OP has literally asked for a chunky heel

dudsville · 05/03/2022 10:20

Your dress is gorgeous and perfect for black tie. That dress doesn't scream black shoes though it works in your pic, you'd have to be careful. I like the subdued gold idea.

tkwal · 05/03/2022 10:21

Paradox London do a great range of occasion shoes in various heel heights and Ruby Shoo have some quirky designs which would look great with this dress, again, good choice of heel heights

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/03/2022 10:21

I'm with @SwayingInTime. That stunning dress would be undersold by anything with a vaguely 'stiletto' heel. I'd go for gold (or possibly even clashing colour) platforms (Zara has some good options at the moment if you can cope with a very high heel too!).

TizerorFizz · 05/03/2022 10:37

If the dress is stunning, why go for clashing “out there” shoes? Simply not needed. Nor classy. It’s really easy to find comfortable mid heeled shoes. No platforms, no chunky block heels - just embellished courts. It’s a classic dress so accessorise it sensibly. Who wants to go to a wedding and feel out of place and faintly comical. Or dreading like a 21 year old student? Wear appropriate shoes for black tie evening do. It’s really easy. No over size bags, no cartoon shoes and no statement anything.

It's funny that footwear threads always bring out the most judgemental comments in Style and Beauty.

One person's frumpy is another person height of fashion, and one person's stylish is another person's hideous.

timeforteaforyouandme · 05/03/2022 10:51

Btw you said you're 5'3? Where does the dress stop on your leg? As that might influence things

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 05/03/2022 11:07

Sort of lower/mid calf. Definitely lower than on the leggy model!!

Or a similar style to this?

SuperbOwls · 05/03/2022 11:35

Gorgeous dress op!

I agree on metallic! Something from Esska would work really well and tick the "cool London vibe" box. I adore her shoes. A little over your £120 limit but not hugely

Are you going to wear the dress with the shoes more than once? I couldn't bring myself to spend £200+ on shoes I'd only wear once which makes finding nice shoes really challenging!

LookItsMeAgain · 05/03/2022 11:57

I'd go with these:

RampantIvy · 05/03/2022 12:02

Those Geox are lovely @LookItsMeAgain

GingerFigs · 05/03/2022 12:15

Preparing to get jumped on here but.... if you are 5'3" wearing that dress then you need heels. I am not a fan of strappy sandals as I have weird toes so I'm with you on the closed shoe front. Don't buy clunky black shoes for that dress, it will spoil the look IMO (and we're all different in our views!). The dress is already 'pulling down' as that's the style, if you are fairly short then clumpy shoes will make you look like a matron. I'd go for either black heels or muted gold (doesn't have to be gold 4 year old dressing up box). Something like the pic of the Sosander ones that @TizerorFizz posted.

RAID is my go-to brand for affordable, wear once party shoes.

There are very classic but stylish options e.g.:

Or in a stunning gold: www.zalando.es/raid-mahi-tacones-gold-plain-rad11b02p-f12.html

Something more unusual and quirky but low heel: www.zalando.es/raid-jasmine-tacones-black-rad11b02m-q11.html

Something super trendy right now (slingback + bow + that specific heel shape): www.zalando.es/raid-courtney-zapatos-altos-red-rad11b053-g11.html
