What shoes with this Ghost London dress for black tie wedding

Going to a wedding and dress code is black tie and ceremony is at 4.30pm. Have got this dress from Ghost which I’m hoping will do but no idea what shoes... any ideas or suggestions? I can’t manage super high stilettos anymore. There will be dancing!

Glad I'm not the only one, thought I was going mad not getting the Hobbs ones, they remind me of Margaret Thatcher

This comes from a place of good humoured debate (this is S&B after all, not AIBU), but:

  1. Those Hobbs shoes are much nicer than anything Mrs T would have worn
  1. I don’t think she would have entertained those orthopaedic Moda in Pelle wooden heeled nightmares! They look like bananas.

Have a look at Esska, there are some lovely ones on there.

Erm... What are these then? Grin footwearnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/margaret-thatcher.jpg

It's shoes and personal style, so it's all subjective.

Thinking outside the box, given the brief for “cool London wedding”, not super-high heels because dancing, and closed toe because gnarly feet: a flat metallic brogue.

Goes with the slightly offbeat dress, and the key to black tie is being well-kempt rather than stiletto glam, imo. Does depend on your personal style whether you can pull off the look but that’s what I’d do.

Ursusmajor · 05/03/2022 08:15

Wow I think shoe threads are even bitchier than AIBU. Wombat, I actually wore those geox shoes you hate to a wedding and did not feel the slightest bit frumpy or hideous. In addition to walking and dancing I needed to be able to run after my toddler (on grass too) so anything higher or thinner heeled would have been a total non-starter. At the least the OP was fairly polite in her rejection of them!
OP I love the dress. The velvet makes me think vintage glamour. For higher thinner heeled closed toed shoes you can dance in (and for an indoor wedding) I look for ballroom/tango/salsa dancing shoes. They’re often T bar style which helps enormously with comfort and they make them in three billon colours. The only tricky part is that often the soles are not made for walking outside.

Esska Valeries (the mint or yellow would look both look v cool in different ways with that dress colour) and if your feet are grim get a pedicure first so you feel less conscious.

[quote CharacterForming]I randomly came across these, but it's a bit of a full-on pink look with the dress.

Those are perfect.

Gorgeous dress OP!

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 05/03/2022 08:35

I love how this thread has snowballed and now we’re talking about Margaret Thatcher.

I absolutely cannot do a metallic brogue due to being quite unstylish in everyday life. For context (prob should have added to my OP) I’m 35, 5’3” and decidedly pear shaped. We’re aren’t taking our three children to the wedding (BLISS) so I won’t be doing much running around.
Seeing some of these shoes I’m wondering if I should just think fuck it and wear a fabulous high heel. I like the Moda in Pelle ones but not the little metal toe cap, looks like a weapon.

I feel I want a closed toe, metallic or velvet, high chunky heel. Haven’t considered jewellery or bag yet but I only wear gold jewellery really. Considering a gold metal headband but that’s maybe for another thread before all you helpful witches pile on!! Grin

These, but they’re €€€

TizerorFizz · 05/03/2022 08:39

DD goes to cool London weddings. Black tie isn’t unusual and dress is fine. I’ve attached some ideas for shoes. Obviously the Manalos are expensive but the idea is understated glam. Just enough to be smart without being too much.

Would something like these work?

www.etsy.com/listing/1089698847

I searched 'wedding shoe red' on Etsy and it seems as if there's an embarrassment of riches on there. Some encrusted with carbuncles but others look lovely.

I can't really shake off my early 2000s Sex and the City style guide so I would wear a plain shoe in a colour with a spindly heel, but I realise I'm not a cool London person. I think block heels are really difficult for black tie but I can definitely see why they might be more comfortable for an all-day event.

stuntbubbles · 05/03/2022 08:51

The Repetto pair is great. I’m on the T-bar train.

But for closed-toe, block heel, velvet requirements, maybe something like these (££££):

www.harrietwilde.com/collections/shoes/products/hetty?variant=39273521938510

Bag I would go either supsersized clutch or miniaudière, nothing in-between:

wizzend · 05/03/2022 08:54

@Wallawallakoala

I don't know why I'm now invested in this haha I think it's because I am in love with the dress!!

maybe?

These gold ones would be perfect.
Ursusmajor · 05/03/2022 08:56

Ooo I like the harriet wilde ones, especially with the gold leaves on the heel.

These are new in and lovely. Also on trend! Plus if you're short they will help elongate your legs (I'm short)

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 05/03/2022 08:59

Gosh love those Harriet Wilde ones but not going to spend that much!!

Dress is more pink than red btw

The Moda ones are absolutely hideous. Far too clompy.
