Going to a wedding and dress code is black tie and ceremony is at 4.30pm. Have got this dress from Ghost which I’m hoping will do but no idea what shoes... any ideas or suggestions? I can’t manage super high stilettos anymore. There will be dancing!

Dress is gorgeous but could easily look frumpy, you need something stylish and sexy.

Nothing from geox!!!!!!

RampantIvy · 05/03/2022 13:40

I think the shoes that LookItsMeAgain linked to are really elegant.

I agree that the dress does need elegant shoes, not flats and not clumpy shoes.

Or backless Gucci loafers for flats

Erm... What are these then? grin footwearnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/margaret-thatcher.jpg

What a laugh! You have spent ages scrolling through pictures of Mrs Thatcher’s feet trying to find something that looks even slightly like the Hobbs shoes a PP posted, but to what end? The Hobbs shoes are still miles nicer.

I said that the Hobbs shoes are much nicer than anything Mrs T would have worn, remember?

Not “the Hobbs shoes look nothing like anything Mrs T would have worn”.

Nevertheless I hope you enjoyed looking at former prime ministers’ feet. Incidentally, the iconic Manolo Blahnik shoes we often saw on Sex and the City - high and pointy with a rectangular diamanté buckle - are in a similar style and were much copied. Do you accost people wearing those and tell them that they look like Margaret Thatcher? I hope so, and I also hope that you are wearing those Moda in Pelle banana shoes when you do it.

@TizerorFizz

DD goes to cool London weddings. Black tie isn’t unusual and dress is fine. I’ve attached some ideas for shoes. Obviously the Manalos are expensive but the idea is understated glam. Just enough to be smart without being too much.
Lovely choices those first ones would look great!
TizerorFizz · 05/03/2022 16:37

@GingerFigs
Ha! I’m with you. All the gold is just dated.

floofycroissant · 05/03/2022 16:43

Christ Iamthewombat you didn't even suggest them. Agree to disagree.

I really like these but may be a little expensive. www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/porte-paire/shoes/high-heel/knotted-velvet-sandals/25185454457266163

Pretty, but in no way meet the "danceability" section of the brief.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 05/03/2022 18:09

@thisplaceisweird like those!!

LookItsMeAgain · 05/03/2022 19:37

These are also an option:

Not sure if they quite fit your criteria but I think with the dress you have, the shoes need to be delicate and not clunky but that is entirely a personal opinion.

urbanbuddha · 05/03/2022 23:57

These?

Thegoldplace · 06/03/2022 02:27

not following the brief at all

But if it were me, I would get a pedicure and go for something like this:

TizerorFizz · 06/03/2022 07:28

@Thegoldplace
So why post those shoes when it’s not following the brief? The op said £120 max spend. So how do you find those shoes for less?

Titsflyingsouth · 06/03/2022 09:42

I'd go some something with a 30's / 40's vintage vibe - like Mary Jane with a little heel...

TizerorFizz · 06/03/2022 10:46

Why vintage? Fancy dress really. Not ok for a chic London wedding. Just embrace what’s smart and classic right now.

Getting a bit thread police Grin
trulyconfuseddotcom · 06/03/2022 11:34

@TizerorFizz Yes, because chic London fashionistas never wear vintage, eh...

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 06/03/2022 12:55

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I’m sure one of these will be perfect

@trulyconfuseddotcom
Vintage 40s shoes? No. They don’t. Or worse, lookalike vintage shoes. Lots of posters have commented on shoes that are not suitable from Geox to ones costing £250. So don’t just have a go at me! Vintage shoes are usually worn and revolting. Copies of vintage 40s are not fashionable. The whole ensemble becomes fancy dress. And if people ask about style and fashion if is highly possible people have polarised views. But fancy dress is only
if that’s what you have been asked to wear by invitation. This wedding is black tie so wear what is implied by the invitation.
