Space NK: What's that all about then?

DrNortherner · 03/01/2008 11:04

Painted shop assistants who look down their noses.

Tubs of crams and potions that cost about £90

Candles that cost the earth

Shop seems empty - no cutomers and harldy any stock.

Am I missing something?

Blimey, which one did you go to?

I've got some vouchers to spend there that i got when i went on mat leave. I looked online and saw it was all hugely expensive!!

I hope it's worth the trip!

LadyMuck · 03/01/2008 11:08

I got given some stuff last year and had a huge allergic reaction to it - took three weeks and two lots of steroid cream to get rid (to say nothing of the amount of anti-histimines).

rantinghousewife · 03/01/2008 11:09

No, I loathe those places but, then I am allergic to poncy up yer own arse establishments.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 03/01/2008 11:10

I went to the one in Guildford on Sunday - very impressed. I wandered for a few minutes and then asked a member of staff for a recommendation for an eye cream - she recommended one I had already tried and wasn't overly impressed with and then gave me loads of samples of some to try before buying.

Anna8888 · 03/01/2008 11:11

You aren't the target segment, DrNorthener

DrNortherner · 03/01/2008 11:11

OP posts:
RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:14

So i could have £100 of allergies?!!

NotQuiteCockney · 03/01/2008 11:15

I like them. Yes, the stuff is expensive, but the staff are helpful, and it's not frightening like a department store cosmetic counter. The staff actually look nice - at least, the one who helped me buy makeup the other day was wearing very little makeup.

Kiehls products are v v expensive, but (I'm told) worth it. (My skin is tough, I don't buy expensive potions generally)

Anna8888 · 03/01/2008 11:16

Sure, because you are a sensible and informed user of cosmetics .

But SpaceNK is a wily business that successfully gets £££ out of women whose vanity and desire for novelty blinds them to the obvious.

RGPargy · 03/01/2008 11:16

Couldn't i just cash in my vouchers?

DrNortherner · 03/01/2008 11:17

Sell them on ebay?

There is a sale on in the london branch I think.

They do Stila cosmetics taht loo quite good.

OP posts:
Anna8888 · 03/01/2008 11:25

Stila make-up is the best. And hard to find. But the prices are fairly normal make-up prices.

It's the overpriced creams that are so silly and pointless.

Cod report back on your purchase please

Aitch · 03/01/2008 13:25

they sell eve lom, that's all i care about. (well, that and the fact i have a 20% discount card, hem hem).

kittylouise · 03/01/2008 13:29

They sell a range of make up called Terry which is excellent. I have their version of concealer, kind of like the Lancome Touche Eclat but a lot better imo. Aboput £25.

I like Space NK - it's a lovely place and the shop assistants are helpful. Not like the old crones in Cavendish House (House of Fraser jobby) who make me feel like running away from their make up counters.

But wouldn;t spend all that money on Diptique candles though - they are well overprirced.

Space NK is fab IME

my branch is anyway - they insist you try anything before you buy, and give loads of free samples

if you are allergic/don't get on with anything they are quite happy for you to return it for a swap

the Stila make up is great, as is NARS

their own brand is also excellent

Earlybird · 03/01/2008 13:34

Everyone I know is moving over to Chantacaille (sp?) makeup, which I believe is stocked by Space NK.

Aitch · 03/01/2008 13:34

i totally disagree about the diptyque candles, pound for pound they burn better and contain more perfume than other similarly-priced ones.

Yes, love Diptyque scented candles. I choke everytime I purchase one.......but then, can never believe how long they last.
