Space NK: What's that all about then?

Painted shop assistants who look down their noses.

Tubs of crams and potions that cost about £90

Candles that cost the earth

Shop seems empty - no cutomers and harldy any stock.

Am I missing something?

mid-dec i paid £12 for a christmassy candle three times the size of a diptyque one and it's kaput already, earlybird. buy cheap, buy twice.

Earlybird · 03/01/2008 13:43

Yes, bought a load of new Chantecaille (sp?) makeup pre-Christmas as a gift to myself (am not much of a makeup wearer). Have yet to really experiment with it at home though, as stuck with tried and true Vincent Longo for holiday festive events.

Do all Space NK shops have treatment rooms? Anyone ever tried them? Cod - perhaps you could use vouchers for a facial/massage etc if that appeals?

Aitch - maybe my Diptyque candles last a long time because I rarely light them? Still wary of a careening dd somehow bumping them off a shelf/table.

ooh i LOVE it

Go in, try lots
find it online at half the price

Aitch · 03/01/2008 13:49

i light mine a lot, actually. we have an open-plan-ish dining/living room, so we need to.

Earlybird · 03/01/2008 13:52

Also worth saying that I would much rather venture into the calm atmosphere of a Space NK to browse/try out new products, than attempt to shop for makeup in the chaos and din of Selfridges/Harvey Nicks/you-name-the-department-store (like getting your makeup done in rush hour at Victoria Station!).

Oh are you supposed to go in and try stuff? I didn't dare touch anything

OP posts:
JackieNo · 03/01/2008 16:20

kittylouise - the by Terry stuff is by Terry de Gunzburg, who used to work for Yves St Laurent, and invented Touche Eclat. So the range is bound to be pretty good.

ahundredtimes · 03/01/2008 16:23

Oh you MUST go in and try stuff and chat to ladies in black jumpers, and play and play and play in there.

What's not to like?

I like it. They always give me loads of free samples too.

kittylouise · 03/01/2008 16:30

JackieNo - how the heck do know that!!

That's funny because I thought that Touche Eclat was completely overrated and highl;ighted all my shadows instead of hiding them, and the Terry stuff works wonders. Who would have thought he invented both!

elliephant · 03/01/2008 16:41

Terry's a woman

Lol at myself for getting that wrong.

Will get myself back to Collection 2000 and Constance Carroll make up stands where I belong!

JackieNo · 03/01/2008 17:16

Lol at kittylouise - I just know a lot of cr@p. But very little useful stuff!

RubySlippers · 03/01/2008 17:43

i have the "by terry" foundation (thanks mum for treating me ) and it is blardy marvellous

makes me look all young and glowing IMO!

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2008 17:46

I love SpaceNK but dh used to be nervous about going into one to get things for me ! I used to shop at the Richmond one and figured I had as much right to be there as anyone ! I love the stuff by Kiehl and try all the perfumes

filthymindedvixen · 03/01/2008 17:48

DrN, I know how you feel, I walked in there once and they sneery sneered at me as if they could tell that I wore lush face cream and my 'expensive' smelly candles only cost £8...

I am too shy to try stuff when I have no intention of buying,

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2008 17:48

SpaceNK's own bath stuff is really nice and Stila is great

Tutter · 03/01/2008 17:48

i buy bits from there as gifts

and the odd thing for myself

my £14.50 kiehls tinted moisturiser is worth every penny

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2008 17:51

I'm quite brazen about trying stuff - just ask lots of questions and you can get away with it (and get freebies too_)
