Space NK: What's that all about then?

DrNortherner · 03/01/2008 11:04

Painted shop assistants who look down their noses.

Tubs of crams and potions that cost about £90

Candles that cost the earth

Shop seems empty - no cutomers and harldy any stock.

Am I missing something?

I love that shop. I always get loads of samples and they have usually given me good advice for the few bits I have ended up buying.Eve Lom was a great suggestion and the darphin stuff is nice when my skin is sensitive. And the stila make up is nice to play with. My DD loves going in there - she always comes out really sparkly !

swiftyknickers · 03/01/2008 17:54

i love it-tis like a little slice of heaven andi love kiehls stuff. ones just opened near me andtis far too tempting

ahundredtimes · 03/01/2008 17:56

FMF and DrN you must be brazen, you must presume it is your right to play with everything in Space NK. Then you'll get it.

Don't be put off by sneery ladies.

GeekgirlRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 03/01/2008 18:00

dh bought me some scented bath salts from Space NK for christmas.
He commented that as well as being good for hydrating your skin and relaxing your muscles they're also very good at cleaning out your wallet

franke · 03/01/2008 18:07

I had a pregnancy massage there 5 years ago when I was about 38 weeks pg. It was almost like an out-of-body experience and they had a special massage bed with a whole in it for your bump - it was soooo good to lie on my front even just for a little while. I can still remember how spaced out I felt afterwards - highly recommended.

Aitch · 03/01/2008 18:33

i can assure you that Nicky Kinnaird (as in NK) would be horrified to hear tell of sneery ladies. she's from belfast and as down-to-earth as they come. i may email her this thread...

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2008 18:42

maybe people are just intimidated anyway by glossy expensive places and presume that the behind the counter ladies will be snooty (as dh was) - I've never come across any snootiness there.

Lauriefairycake · 03/01/2008 18:56

The ones in the St Albans branch are nice girls but they dont know very much about the products (they are so young). I asked for an eye cream and she pointed to an advert on the counter for one which was £85 so I was really upfront and said that I wanted something cheaper. She then walked around looking for one (she didn't know the stock)and eventually she found one which was the Dr Sebagh one (£38).

Only when I got it home did I realise it wasn't for the wrinkles/thin skin under the eye but was a contour cream for around the eye socket. I was really, really specific that i wanted one for the wrinkles under the eye with her.

Ended up buying an elemis eye serum for under the eye (somewhere else) and I use the contour cream for around the eyes - my eyes are the most pampered part of the body

but look great

TheMadHouse · 03/01/2008 19:12

I use the one in Harrogate and used to frequent the Marloe one when living down south and they are great.

pre Children DH used to pop in and get me gifts - he he he.

Now it is a real treat. I had some stilla mini glosses for Christmas from there along with some aromathepy Ass bath stuff - fab

They are also great at recemomending products. I look totally out of place turning up with a 2.9 year old and an 18 month old, but they are always really helpful

blueshoes · 03/01/2008 19:27

My boss always gets me smellies from SpaceNK for my christmas present

Maryanne - it's not that I'm intimitaded at all. I can walk in anywhere and not feel intimidated.

But in this shop I did feel 'ignored'

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 04/01/2008 10:17

perhaps the staff in the branch were a bit off then - what a shame as it is a fab store

ArcticRoll · 04/01/2008 10:58

Ooh Aitch please do email Nicky Kinnard this thread.

I have been going to the Brighton branch since it opened and have always felt slightly ignored even though I've spent a fair bit of dosh. I have several friends who also report similiar experiences.

Several times the staff have been preening themselves in the mirror whilst I was forced to approach them for service and they begrudgingly served me.

Such a shame as I love the products.

mrspnut · 04/01/2008 11:09

I love the harrogate branch of space NK - much better than going to Debenhams for stuff.

The free samples are brilliant because my skin is quite unpredictable and I like being able to try something before I buy it just in case it makes my skin flare up.

hifi · 04/01/2008 11:15

the terry brush foundation thing is fab, will go and get the bronzer one today as i have such a lovely tan

pagwatch · 04/01/2008 11:20

If you mail her then please let her know that the staff in the Guildford branch are lovely.
They let DD clamber up on the chairs and have a go even though she is only 5. And they always know what they are talking about.

(one of the girls in particular is soooo nice - she used to work in a local resteraunt and was always just lovely to my smallest two, including DS2 who could be 'tricky' back then.)

HairyIrene · 04/01/2008 11:28

space nk is lovely
staff are nice generally
have used various branches all good except uber over eager in holborn 4 to a customer tiny shop...
they do REN i love it (before department stores )

great for gifts

back off

bigshopper · 04/01/2008 16:28

Shops with no people in are brilliant. Last time I went to Space NK the girl spent about 1 hour giving me a full make up and I looked so fab that I bought the lot and have looked significantly more beautiful every day for the last 2 months.

I don't like shops with no people in. I haven't dared go in our local branch, but dh went in and bought me a Nars multiple for Xmas. Apparently they asked him if he could fix their heating as it had gone off and they were all shivering

hoxtonchick · 04/01/2008 22:49

the staff in the one opposite st pauls are great. they took my big bags of sale shopping away from me & put them behind the counter so i could concentrate on products instead. and i love the half price gift sets with last years packaging.

southeastastra · 04/01/2008 22:51

lol this thread is so funny.

it's just a very successful marketing ploy. if you're ugly a cream isn't going to be that much help is it.
