Love it Maireas

@Maireas

"Yes, I know I'm wearing beige and no chandelier earrings, but really, I'm fine"
Brilliant!
KillingMeDeftly · 05/03/2022 11:00

"Calm down, calm down, I'll wear the Pringle hat next time."

Nnique · 05/03/2022 11:08

@Maireas sorry for delay! I don’t have notifications so I wasn’t ignoring you on purpose.

Can we have a second one on standby-by (one surely can’t get by with only one tiara Shock Wink )? In which case I’ll have the Midnight Tiara as well, please?

Maireas · 05/03/2022 11:14

No apologies needed!!
@Nnique - Midnight tiara ✔️

Camilla and Charles were at a Ukrainian church this week. Camilla’s outfit is so dark that it’s difficult to make out the detail. She is embracing the cape though. And you can get a good look at her whopper of an engagement ring!

Maireas · 05/03/2022 12:34

That is a beautiful ring, I think it was QEQM's.
Bless her, she looks distraught, understandably.

OP posts:
Eaumyword · 05/03/2022 16:57

I think you're right about it being QM's ring. Didn't she also have a pearl ring she wore on her engagement finger? She was quite the magpie when it came to jewellery!

Maireas · 05/03/2022 17:02

She did, I wonder what happened to that pearl? I know that the generous Mrs Greville bequeathed her some wonderful pieces. Not least the tiara that Camilla wears a lot.

A different world when you would look at the Royal Family and think they need more beautiful historic jewellery.

Maireas · 05/03/2022 20:24

I know! I wonder if it was because she thought that it would all be worn, passed on and not broken up?

It’s said that Margaret Greville was deeply fond of the then Queen Elizabeth, thinking of her as the daughter she had never had.
Certainly, Elizabeth said some very affectionate things about Margaret, unlike others such as Cecil Beaton who was very rude about her.

Margaret was the daughter of the multi millionaire brewer McEwan and his mistress, who was married to one of the brewery workers. McEwan’s wife died when Margaret was about twenty, and very shortly afterwards he married Margaret’s mother.

When Margaret married, her father bought her a country estate, and when her husband died after only two years of marriage, her father lived there with her.

Margaret never remarried, but became a popular society hostess, with friends and acquaintances throughout European royalty. I think she would have been thrilled that Eugenie wore her emerald tiara for her wedding, as she bequeathed all of what she termed her “real jewellery” to Queen Elizabeth.

Maireas · 05/03/2022 21:25

What an interesting story! Thank you, Ada. It sounds as if Margaret Greville had genuine affection for the QM.
I didn't realise Eugenie's wedding tiara was part of the Greville bequest.

KillingMeDeftly · 05/03/2022 21:34

Very generous of her, especially considering that if ever a family wasn't in need of tiaras and jewels it was the Windsors!

Serenster · 06/03/2022 09:45

The Queen herself accepted a stunning emerald and diamond necklace from two sisters in the 1960s, they were elderly and single, and had been left the necklace by their father who thought it had belonged to Empress Josephine. Rather than sell it, the sisters wanted to give it to someone who world wear it. And the Queen certainly fitted that brief!

(It’s a necklace I’d love to see Catherine wear at a state dinner)

I love all the little historical snippets on this thread, it’s so interesting.
I agree that Kate would look wonderful wearing that with the right dress. I have a soft spot for emeralds though.

Maireas · 06/03/2022 11:04

Emeralds are gorgeous. These pieces need to be worn and enjoyed!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 06/03/2022 12:42

@Serenster Maybe Charlotte will wear it when she's 18? Those emeralds are amazing.

pokes DH as it's my 50th and our 10th WA next Saturday

@Maireas

Has anybody asked for the The Indian Ruby, Lasque, and Pearl Tiara yet?

I like a bit of colour in my tiaras and this seems to have it in spades.

Here’s a tiara that is definitely in the Royal Collection, but which will likely never been worn by a royal again. The piece, which features rubies, pearls, and “lasques” (thinly shaved slivers of diamonds), was “presented” to Queen Victoria during her reign. The unusual diadem also features enameled portraits on the inside of the tiara. Victoria left the piece to her daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Albany, but by 1924, it was back with the main line of the Windsor family. That year, King George V placed it in the crown’s Indian Collection, and it’s still there today.

Just posted this on the wrong bloody thread. Sure all the dryrobe s&b posters will be welcoming my views on HM!

Probably wishful thinking on my part but I love that HM has a yellow and blue floral display today!

She looks even tinier if that is possible.

See the DM has now hopped onto the story so it must be true 😂
