Royal style continues!
Thanks to Deftly for the thread title. Let's hope there's more Gucci and Chanel.....fewer coat dresses..,.

I love the Sarah Flint olive boots too. A nice variety of flats too, but some of them look too flat if you know what I mean. Like you would feel like you were walking flat footed. Maybe I’m just getting old and either like comfort or glam. Not glam or comfy just isn’t for me 🤦🏻‍♀️. For example the highland boots look torturous and the grear lace up sandals look hard. For context I am happily sitting here in my dressing gown and socks 😂

MotherofPearl · 30/01/2022 23:05

Thanks for posting the shoe retrospectives for Kate and Meghan. Just whiled away a pleasant few minutes looking through their collections.

I agree about block heels. I like Kate's Todd's block heels and some of the Gianvito Rossi ones too.

ChristmasPlanning · 30/01/2022 23:11

Can I please have all the Jimmy Choos!?!?!?

Justkeeppedaling · 30/01/2022 23:40

It's surprising how many shoes both women have that are the same shoes but in different colours, though I suppose if you find a comfy shoe.....

SenecaFallsRedux · 31/01/2022 16:17

I love shoes but have a very hard foot to fit, so if I find a pair that looks good and is comfortable, I will often buy them in more than one color (and have shown up for work more than once wearing one black shoe and one navy shoe). But I could never wear any of those stilettos that Kate and Meghan have. It's hard to think of those and "comfortable" in the same sentence. I enjoy looking at them though.

Maireas · 31/01/2022 16:19

I was going to say the same, Seneca, but I suppose "comfort" is subjective!

At a glance the only pair they both have seems to be the choo dark red velvet.

I'd love to know who recommended to who!

gluenotsoup · 31/01/2022 17:19

I think they both have the same aquazurra ones too. Gorgeous.

KillingMeDeftly · 31/01/2022 17:36

50th birthday portraits of CPM. She looks very regal and statuesque but much like with Kate, I don't think ice blue is her colour. It looks a bit too cold on her.

I know what you mean @KillingMeDeftly about the ice blue, although it is a gorgeous style.
I entirely agree about how elegant and regal she looks and she has my tiara on

Maireas · 31/01/2022 17:44

I saw those, Deftly. She looks very elegant, lovely as ever. Good jewelry.
I was wondering why the pictures are against that grey background, which looks cold. Same with Fred.

I love that colour on her, the subtle pink/copper beads on the gown really pick up the jewels. Love it. I think the blue does suit, it’s the grey background which dims it down a bit and doesn’t really allow the colour of the dress to shine. Maybe the ice blue adds to the cool regality, makes you think she’s aloof and untouchable in a princessy way.

gluenotsoup · 31/01/2022 18:00

@Eaumyword
You have graciously given permission for it to be borrowed, I see 😉

Eaumyword · 31/01/2022 18:28

It wasn't particularly gracious (sharing is NOT caring when it comes to tiaras)...Grin

gluenotsoup · 31/01/2022 19:18

😂😂 I couldn’t agree more

MotherofPearl · 31/01/2022 20:08

I'm also less keen on that ice blue on CPM, but it's a beautiful style and fits her perfectly.

These are the less formal birthday portraits.

I see you've also very generously allowed your tiara to be displayed at the 'Mary and the Crown Princesses' exhibition Eau!

Those are nice portraits. A bit more informal. Does she have to blow out those candles?

StartupRepair · 31/01/2022 22:23

Don't know that she needed little red beads on the dress when she is festooned in actual Napoleonic era rubies. Agree that the grey washes it all out. The candle photo is lovely.

AdaColeman · 31/01/2022 22:52

I quite like the photo of her leaning on her elbow, though her eye & brow make up could have been done with a lighter touch. She’s got a nice smile.
I’m not keen on the photo with the candles, she’s just squashed in at one side of the frame. All those flowers make her look like an assistant at Moyses Stevens.

The long grey/ blue dress is gorgeous, lovely intricate workmanship, but I think it would have been a better photograph against a very pale moth gold background, or a distressed silver leaf background with some warm gold light played onto it.

LadyEloise1 · 31/01/2022 23:42

CPMary looks beautiful in the blue. She has gorgeous skin.
I like how the beading picks up the colour in her tiara and other jewels.

Laiste · 01/02/2022 07:58

@AdaColeman My mum worked at Moyses Stevens.

She worked on day to day flowers around Buck Palace (corgies arriving in a room meant the queen was about to appear. corgies used to pee up the urns!) and day to day flowers around Clarence House (Queen Mum sitting in same room where mum was working once had extra cup of tea bought in for her via butler. Kind lady). Mum did the pew ends at Margret's wedding.

Useless info. post of the day Grin

AdaColeman · 01/02/2022 08:41

Wow @Laiste how fab!
Moyses Stevens is one of my all time favourite shops, I used to buy my Mother’s birthday flowers there when I worked in town.
I remember going to see the flowers the day after Margaret’s wedding, (arches of roses across The Mall). Your Mum must have had some wonderful experiences.

Eaumyword · 01/02/2022 09:50

Love that anecdote @Laiste. I like that normal people weren't completely 'invisible' to her as they might be to some.

Laiste · 01/02/2022 09:56

Oh that's v interesting actually! Mum grew up in Fulham - easy to get to work. She and dad moved further out when i was born.

I slopped around central London a lot as a teen in the 80s and I went and had a look at MS once, but i've never been in.

Yes she has some tales to tell. Old money/new money ect. The woman who had fresh flowers every day and sat around in her flat in her fur coat and diamonds, silk turban and cigarette holder, but NEVER allowed any curtains open ... HmmGrin
