How many coats do you have?

I wfh and never have to look dressed up. I have a technical waterproof for (rare) hikes, a long black coat, a proper Scandinavian winter coat, a trench type thing, a mid weight puffer and in the sales I've just convinced myself I needed to get three more ( 2 mid season, one fairly warm). I don't 'need' them, they will add variety to my wardrobe but clearly are not necessary. But I love coats!! I'm sure I'd have more if I hadn't put on weight 3 years ago and had to get rid of most of mine and start again. It's becoming a bit embarrassing to explain to my OH what the newest package is, and I should probably save my money for other things.

Am I going overboard? How many coats do you have?

I'm the same OP. I've been WFH since Covid started and I've gone from needing to dress smart to being able to wear PJs all day. I'm finding it hard to get used to not needing clothes but wanting to look smart etc.

I've never been a big coat person. I have one smart one, one outdoorsy one, a waterproof kagool thing for the summer, another light outdoors one, and a denim jacket. DH on the other hand has a million coats and jackets. He has to wear a uniform for work and works outdoors, so never wears the damn things.

At least 20.

I have two. A lighter weight, waterproof jacket for warmer days and a longer water resistant puffer coat for winter.

I want to replace the puffer because it was badged as waterproof but really isn’t, it’s just resistant. So I want a warm long waterproof coat and also a lightweight long waterproof as I prefer longer coats to jackets.

One proper outdoorsy waterproof jacket with fleece lining
2 nice wool coats

Oh heaps! Three outdoorsy type coats, two superdry puffers - one long, one short. A quilted Barbour jacket, two long smart coats for evenings, three leather jackets, a grey Zara work coat, a suede biker jacket (I don't like this but dh bought it)

Lots! But am most relieved to read of others with coat collections. I have everything from a padded waterproof number through classic Harris tweed to fake fur and a fabulous patchwork velvet one. Many more jackets as well. I charity and vintage shop and have had many items in my collection for years.

I feel that this is generally enough for all occasions.

1 waterproof Barbour coat for everything.

I really should buy a lightweight summer coat as the Barbour is too warm. It's fine in the winter with extra layers and I cycle everywhere too.

Really?! Don't you get chilly in winter?

I think it's important to get coats that really suit you - they're the thing most people see when they meet you.

That said, since I started wfh, I haven't bought any coats. I just wear a massive puffer coat when it's really cold, and a slightly less massive one when it's warmer.

I did intend to buy a wool maxi coat in the sale this year, but they've all gone, so I can't. (and it's probably not appropriate for walking the dog anyway).

If you live in Britain then coats are a pretty good investment.
Certainly more useful than sandals.
