My JL Toast shirt has been dispatched

ScottishMouse · 29/12/2021 14:21

That is true, the things I have tried previously in store, or already have in a different colour/fabric I know will work.
I have just received a Toast parcel with my remaining sale buys. Sadly, most are going back.
The pink check Mul Mul shirt is nice but the fabric is way too thin and it is still too expensive at £95.
The tattersall top is beautiful, but the gathers on the bust do nothing for me, it has the look of something my mum would have worn when pregnant with me over 40 years ago.
The heavy navy cotton top is very meh, fabric is too thick to fall nicely, and it’s not even a nice shade of navy.
The poplin pj shirt is a maybe. But it arrived super creased, and I reckon its ironing needs would mean I would rarely wear it.
Finally, the seed check shirt is a maybe. Only thing is it is veeeeeerrrrry big. I bought a 10, and am usually a 10 or 12 in Toast shirts, but I could have tried an 8 in this. I’m guessing a smaller size would take something from the look as it is supposed to be oversized, but I’m not sure if it flatters. I might see if my local Toast has an 8 to try as otherwise it will be very useful under sweaters and cardis, and has a nice high neck that will pop out. Does anyone have this, and did you go for your usual (very oversized) size?
My bank balance is thanking me that most of my sale purchases are going back. Maybe I’ll have a little left to buy myself the Hilary Grant hat I hoped I might get for Christmas but obviously didn’t hint hard enough about!

dudsville · 29/12/2021 15:04

One of my toast packages arrived and..... I LOVE THE ORANGE COAT!!! The sleeves are odd, but I think it's because of the way it's been stored and I think that'll ease with both hanging on a coat rack and with wear and movement. I was worried the sleeves would be too short (I think they are short on the model) and I did order a size down, but it's just a perfect fit and I love it so much.

The fair isle scarf is a keeper. As are two striped tees, the decorative stripe black and white shirt and the Lys blouse, which i took a chance on and is so much prettier irl. I also finally bought the esme skirt (I have another black toast skirt so this is redundant) and the alpaca cardigan in grey. All lovely. I have the cardigan in the other colour on the way along with the brown cable knit scarf.

The blue and white skirt is pretty, well made, fit well, felt nice on, but just wouldn't go with my wardrobe. Also the chambray shirt dress and grey poplin dress are both going back, just too big. The trill ikat top really pretty but sits uncomfortably on my neck, just a really odd design for me. That's my lot.

ScottishMouse · 29/12/2021 15:21

Yay! So pleased you like the orange coat @dudsville. I’m just off to the post office with mine.

dudsville · 29/12/2021 16:03

Thanks @ScottishMouse, hope your bank balance enjoys the refund!

faustina · 29/12/2021 16:11

I ordered LOADS and have returned everything except two little scarves which I love. The stripe cotton soft tee in both colours - the neck was too high and odd for me. The blue was a nice colour though. The stripe easy tee was too thick. The Field and flower cotton gown was just a bit underwhelming

Unfortunately for my bank balance, the Brora things from JL are beautiful and I am keeping three of the four I ordered. I'm wearing this at the moment because it's so lovely I didn't want to take it off:

slouchy jumper

and I've also kept this in khaki and navy - it hangs so well and is light but also a bit weighty - I rarely buy two of the same thing but they are so nice!

ribbed merino

navy

AmethystMoonShine · 29/12/2021 16:16

Those jumpers are lovely @faustina. I'm still waiting on my toast order....it's in Cheltenham today according to the tracker......

neveradullmoment99 · 29/12/2021 16:18

Well my purchase came too.
The striped tee with the high neck is a keeper for me. I love the burgundy stripe. I'm really pleased.
The cobalt cotton and wool cardigan is also a keeper. The poplin tired skirt in khaki is also lovely albeit neat on waist. I've a few lbs to lose so that will do the trick.
I returned the esme skirt as the waist was still yo neat for me and it bunched where the pleats are.

faustina · 29/12/2021 16:21

Thanks @AmethystMoonShine - Brora was a bit disappointing for a while, but they've really upped their game this season!

What are you waiting for?

AmethystMoonShine · 29/12/2021 16:27

@faustina yes I stopped looking at Brora but after seeing your jumpers, I'm going to keep my eyes peeled.

I'm waiting on far too much! Two pairs of trousers, the cotton linen wide leg in both Moss and Slate. The Tattersall check pintuck top-, the navy brushed cotton top, the Esme black denim skirt (if that's good it will fill a wardrobe hole), the alpaca marl cardigan in charcoal and the needlecord raglan shirt in slate (I've had my eye on that since it arrived on the site but not sure how I'd wear it, so it'll need to be amazing to be a keeper). It cannot all stay! Xmas Grin

faustina · 29/12/2021 16:33

@AmethystMoonShine - hope you get it tomorrow. the way the weather's going, the cotton linen wide leg trousers will be just the thing for New Year!

Laska2Meryls · 29/12/2021 18:49

Hooray I just got my refund !...

Stoic123 · 29/12/2021 19:16

Nice reading about all your sale arrivals.

Couple of things arrived for me/keeping:

  • Gathered hem skirt in terracota (JL Sale) - hangs beautifully.
  • Oxford dress in spiced orange- wasn't sure but then tried with a little navy cardigan and colour just zinged. Surprisingly snug top half so luckily I didn't size down too much.

Not arrived yet: Slubby Shirt Dress, Easy Stripe Tee, Fair Isle Scarf and Crinkle Cotton Easy Dress (Black). Last item was not in sale but a small size became available and I love the blue check version.

ScottishMouse · 29/12/2021 19:26

I have that orange dress @Stoic123, and although I wouldn’t wear it every day, I absolutely love it!

SmaugMum · 29/12/2021 19:44

@AmethystMoonShine, I have been flirting with the idea of those cotton/linen trousers but I’m wondering if they’re too similar to my Jude trousers in the same colour and the same fabric?

I’m enjoying reading about your sale arrivals (and I’m relieved about your refund Laska); in small and boring news from the land of the easily pleased, I’m delighted to report that my washed linen napkins are perfect. They arrived too late for my Christmas table but they will bring me much joy in a Hygge sort of way.

I ordered the stripe lace yolk sweater in blue/green from JL, who have today price matched it for me but I think it may be too similar to a previous year’s navy seamless Fair Isle jumper so I think I’m going to return it (size M if anyone’s hankering for one) and wait for the cheaper version in marzipan from Toast.

I’m astonished that there are so few Toast items for sale on the JL site now, given the stinginess of the reductions. I begrudgingly ordered a pair of Gabis in storm blue as they are the trousers I wear most in my day-to-day life - they’re still full price on the Toast site.

Stoic123 · 29/12/2021 19:52

@ScottishMouse- it's not a shy dress Grin

ScottishMouse · 29/12/2021 20:02

That it is not @Stoic123. I wore it to a family christening in the summer and I think my in laws thought I had lost the plot 🤣

I am pretty shocked too.
I suppose its down to the fact of the ordering and returns process on toast.
For my striped top it took over a week.

Laska2Meryls · 29/12/2021 20:30

smaugmum I am surprised actually that the marzipan jumper didn't sell out so it probably will be further reduced...But hey ho! I have worn mine 3 times already so will have to suck up the higher sale price.. its really lovely and I am so pleased with it. I agree that the blue green one was too much like previous jumpers especially the blue green fair isle yoke one I already have from q couple of years ago

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/12/2021 20:45

Still waiting for my Oxford shirt from JL, supposed to be delivered today but not arrived. Beginning to wish I’d ordered the Lys shirt instead reading your reviews of how lovely it is. I always struggle with shirts as I’ve got narrow shoulders and back but I'm quite busty and hate gaping shirt buttons.
I also ordered the dark poplin pj shirt from Toast, what colour did you get @ScottishMouse ? Not expecting mine for a couple of days. Hoping there might be some new additions to the sale soon.
Glad you got your refund @Laska2Meryls , at least Toast didn’t keep you waiting too long.

ScottishMouse · 29/12/2021 21:03

@Theteapotsbrokenspout, I got the dark colour pj shirt too. I really like it, I am also busty and it fits well in my usual Toast size. The pockets add a little something, and I think it could be very useful. But I had a bad experience once with a dark coloured poplin top from Toast, it developed white marks in the wash which never came out again. I’ve not had this with any other fabric, so I’m a bit wary, and haven’t decided yet whether to keep or not.

dudsville · 29/12/2021 21:18

Hooray for your refund @Laska2Meryls!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 29/12/2021 21:28

I’m hoping I will get a shirt that fits well, disappointing about that happening in the wash before @ScottishMouse , strange as well.

NoCureForLove · 30/12/2021 10:50

Royal Mail says parcel coming this morning! Grin

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 30/12/2021 11:41

Mine has arrived after yesterday’s false start. The Oxford shirt, I took a chance on a 10 and it fits beautifully, although it is quite a long shirt.
It did briefly reminded me of old fashioned collarless shirts I used to pick up for pennies at jumble sales when I was a teenager Grin.

Tried it on with black gabis and decided I looked a bit like a waiter so I need to do a bit of wardrobe sorting, but definitely a keeper.
