What was the other thread? I can’t seem to find it. Intrigued….

TerrierOrTerror · 10/01/2022 12:22

I wore my beautiful green skirt to the theatre (out out for the first time in a LONG time) over the weekend. Kept it simple with black jumper and high black ankle boots and just felt good about my look. I also think the skirt is super slimming despite being a bulky silouette.

Decided to return the golden syrup cord dress, I just don't think it's versatile enough for me/my lifestyle to justify the price. Keeping the others though.

I'm determined to buy better quality and fewer clothes this year, any other brands you recommend? Recent years my wardrobe has mainly been H&M, Zara, Mango, M&S and Oasis (before the BooHoo takeover).

ilovecherries · 10/01/2022 12:49

How lovely to have new Toast aficionados joining. Smile. The more the merrier. I’m still eagerly waiting for the postie. I’m wearing Toast gabi cords in oil, the seersucker blouse and a big black cashmere crew neck jumper that used to be dad’s.

ExConstance · 10/01/2022 13:03

I've been reading the "Anti Toast" thread too. I used to love Toast, had loads of it in my wardrobe, especially dresses with fitted tops and full skirts. I was a bang on size 10, in Toast clothes. Last year I'd put on a lot of weight (now gone) and was finding that even at 5'3" and 13 stone I was still swamped by a Toast size 10 (as it now is) in dresses. The brand is not at all inclusive because if you are short the dresses are not in proportion and some drag along the floor when I try them on. I'm back to a normal size 10 now, and at 9 stone not a very lightweight for my height. Can't buy anything except for knitwear and tops (and shoes) from Toast now. I've mentioned this in the shops, on their Facebook page and to anyone who will listen. Are they only interested in the business of tall and generously proportioned people? It really annoys me because when brands do not sell larger sizes there are loads of complaints, I just want something to fit me, and I'm a very normal size. I'm shopping more at Brora now, their size 10 fits me and the longer dresses and skirts don't need taking up.

faustina · 10/01/2022 14:42

@ExConstance - how odd! I remember the very lovely looking promenade coats and dresses in a similar style from years ago, and they always drowned me (at 5'4) - trousers too, but I've bought quite a few dresses from Toast in the past couple of years and none of them has been too long at all. Some slightly shorter than I'd wish them to be (cord tunic dress). When did you last try a dress there?

I also find the trousers mostly fit fine too - it's tall people on this thread who say they're too short. I have Gabis, Alix and a tapered corduroy pair and they're all perfect in length

having said that .. my pyjama bottoms arrived and are going back because they're too big in the waist, but the scarves are wonderful - especially the green silk one

ExConstance · 10/01/2022 15:06

I kwas at Toast in Cheltenham 3 January and the dresses are the same - far too long and baggy as they were the last time I tried any on in john Lewis just before Christmas. There was a pair of culotte trousers that caught my eye but even in the 6 they looked very big. My current winter coat is a Toast one from 3 years back that is a 10, at the time I was a 14/16 everywhere else, unlike the dresses that is a reasonable length.

AmethystMoonShine · 10/01/2022 15:24

I've just received one of my outstanding Toast parcels. The needlecord raglan shirt in the green colour is on its way back - strange as I have the same style the very dark black/blue colour and love it. The green just doesn't look as good, despite green being a good colour for me, it was also very creased which may have put me off a bit. I am however keeping the cord pleat front skirt in ginger. It's the same style as a dark indigo denim skirt I have which gets a lot of wear....in fact I'm wearing it today Grin

Countmeout · 10/01/2022 16:46

For anyone concerned about refunds I posted my return last Tuesday and got my refund through today so all ok.

My favourite buy of 2021 is the Tala dress in Pesto. Loved it in the summer. Also the Mira sweater I got in the summer sale.

ilovecherries · 10/01/2022 17:26

Well, my parcel was a bit disappointing. Both cord dresses terribly creased which isn’t a great way to show cord anyway.

The golden syrup dress - I somehow hadn’t appreciated the poufiness of the sleeves and like a lot of Toast dresses I just feel it would have benefitted from another 3cms of length. At 5’7 I’m not that tall! So it’s hanging in the shower till I see how I feel tomorrow.

Green cord yoke dress - again, really creased and possibly a tad too short. It does look nice open as a duster over a shirt and twill Alix trousers but I do have other dresses that could fulfil that role. Waiting to see what I feel when the creases drop out a bit.

Black crinkle dress - even in the smaller size, not doing anything for me and neck isn’t sitting well. Toast’s ‘boatish’ necks often don’t sit properly on me.

Micro gingham dress - jury’s out. It’s austere but I can see me sitting outside our van wearing it in the summer.

Ruffle raised stripe shirt - very thin, I have the blue one already and have worn it a lot but the white def feels more summary and I’m not sure if I’d like that frill in the summer.

So, nothing that leapt out of the bag shouting ‘I’m for youoooo’

ScottishMouse · 10/01/2022 17:46

My last sale parcel arrived too. Very quickly I thought.
The green silk scarf is fab and definitely a keeper. I also threw in the (in)famous jerkin at the last moment. I bought and returned this twice earlier in the year, I just couldn’t make up my mind about it. But this time I am keeping it. Not sure why I swithered so much previously, it is going to be very useful.

AFingerofFudge · 10/01/2022 18:11

Ok also reporting in (with photos. Apologies for state of room and mirrors BlushGrin)
The jerkin - love it but don't know why. Feels overpriced even in the sale but it may stay.

The check cotton dress - I don't normally wear blue but I actually really like it so it will stay

The indigo denim dress - is it a dress? (Very shapeless but feels nice on) Or would I wear it undone over a dress? I'm undecided on this one !

Also tried on the koyo pyjamas- they may stay although the legs are a bit long

The definite nos :
The lime textured cotton dress. Didn't even try it on, it was so thin and see through it was a no.
The lime patterned trousers. I wanted to love them but they screamed "pyjama bottoms " at me in a very loud voice. Going back.
Koyo dhuggie. Wrong size, wrong length, wrong neckline. Wrong.

And there it is. Still undecided but honest opinions accepted! I'm about a stone heavier than I was this time last year so hopefully I'll shift a bit of that soon.

faustina · 10/01/2022 18:25

I really like the indigo denim dress - both ways you've worn it. It's a lovely dark dark blue. Can't really see the other dress under the jerkin

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2022 18:40

I’m tempted by that @ilovecherries, what’s the fabric weight like?

ilovecherries · 10/01/2022 19:01

This is probably not very helpful, Blossom, but I’d say it sits between poplin and voile. So maybe mid-weight? It’s quite stiff atm but it’s not heavy so I imagine it will soften off quite a lot.

Blossomtoes · 10/01/2022 19:04

That’s really helpful, thank you 😊 It looks lovely but I suspect it won’t work with silver hair. I had to reluctantly return a beautiful cord dress last summer because it made me look like a ghost.

dudsville · 10/01/2022 19:48

@afingerofFudge, the denim dress is fab!

ToastCosILoveIt · 10/01/2022 20:43

The penultimate sales parcel has arrived from Toast. The PJ Floral Print silk shirt (which I had paid full price for but which took three weeks to arrive and so has gonen back) is, of course a keeper in the sale version and looks fab. No way could i have sized down from my usual 12 to a 10.

The Poplin Tuck Dress in a 10 is good to keep. I tried it on in a hurry this am while in a meeting (the wonders of Zoom) and wasn't sure but tonight i am liking the slightly prairie feel to it. The skirt is full but not so full it adds inches. I didn't bother trying on the 12 as it will be too big.

The Navy Silk Dupion Shirt is nice too: very much an easy work piece in warmer weather with lighter, smart trousers.

The Seersuck Tunic Dress is a maybe: need to try it on again. As one reviewer said, it isn't lined and isn't very forgiving in terms of what you are wearing underneath. I am also not sure if the colour just washes me out. It is a 12 and agian, think the 10 would have been too tight in the bust.

One more parcel to come, hopefully tomorrow.

I love the cut off those silk shirts and really considered them but I don't trust myself to wash it properly. I hope they do more from that pattern!

I'm waiting in the two cord skirts from JL. I haven't had a delivery notice yet. Reading the contents looks like they used to be lined, and they recieved better reviews when they were. Wonder why they continued creating an item but stopped lining them?

dudsville · 10/01/2022 20:51

Comments, not contents!

ScottishMouse · 10/01/2022 20:54

I love the cut of the pj shirts too @dudsville, but not the fabrics. Silk is too high maintenance for me, and the poplin is just too noisy! I wish they would do that style in a nice thicker cotton or corduroy. If you’re listening Toast!

Countmeout · 10/01/2022 20:58

I don’t think they were ever lined @dudsville. I bought one early in the season. I think the description was incorrect.

I love the seersucker dress but is it too dress? Or can you dress it down? It is dry clean. A real bummer. Would you just wash it? I adore the colour. Those two things [esp the dry clean only] puts me off.
neveradullmoment99 · 10/01/2022 21:15

too dressy not too dress!

Really love both dresses on you and the jerkin! Vote - KEEP!
faustina · 10/01/2022 21:23

I don't really understand why it's called seersucker because in my mind seersucker is a bobbly cotton fabric - very light - and that looks kind of satiny. It's a beautiful colour!
