@Memo7 Same one. I’ve had my eye on it for a good month or so now but I’m not entirely sure I can justify the cost so I keep going back and forth. I was hoping to see some customer pics in this thread but sadly not!

Memo7 · 08/01/2022 00:13

@LoveaStatementNap me too, I keep looking out for anyone else mentioning it to possibly see it on but nothing yet 😂 I usually get a couple of sweaters per year but I’ve not fancied anything else apart from this. So I might just bite the bullet

LoveaStatementNap · 08/01/2022 07:53

Just letting you know there are more items back in stock in the sale - I just managed to snag the aran cardigan in medium. Yay!

@Memo7 do it! Then post pics!

AmethystMoonShine · 08/01/2022 08:09

Me too @LoveaStatementNap, I got the green silk scarf and the Raised stripe ruffle collar shirt, both just to try as I’m not sure on each and even in the sake they’re not cheap as such. So they’ll need to be perfect to keep.

ToastCosILoveIt · 08/01/2022 11:29

So, I have been to the post office today to return some of the Toast sale stuff. Frustratingly I am still waiting for two parcels to arrive: one from 30 December and one from 6 Jan (not expecting the latter one yet obviosuly).

Keepers are the yellow poplin PJ shirt which I love and which I also managed to order in the Navy on 6 Jan after it previously having sold out. It will be great for work with black trousers and at the weekend with denim. I am also keeping the slubby blue shirt dress. I have this in the yellow and the maroon from the summer. i know it has divided opinion on here but I love the collar (which is slightly bigger i think than the summer versions and nicely pointy which gives it a modern feel). It is also a wonderful shade of blue. I am also keeping the poplin raglan sleeved dress in blue/black - I ordered a 10 and a 12 but didn't even try the 12 on as the 10 is plenty big enough.

Back goes the Lys shirt which is a very cream shade and washed me out. Also going back is the Lise print square cut top - nice enough but didn't have a wow factor when I put it on and was also full of static so clung around the bust area which put me off. I ordered a medium and am a high street 12 and it was certainly very roomy. I am also sending back the cotton poplin pinafore wrap dress from last summer which popped up onto this sale. I have lusted after it for a long time but it woudl suit someone with a much smaller bust than mine as is cut low around the armpits. i am pleased to finally put that one to bed.

I am waiting for a number of things to arrive in the post, including the pintuck dress in blue, the seersucker tunic dress and the PJ floral print silk top which I snapped up in the sale having previously ordered full price but which took three weeks to arrive by which time the sale had started. The full priced one went back this morning.

I hope you are all having a lovely Saturday and enjoying wearing your Toast purchases or trying on your sales goodies as they arrive.

Hopefully your remaining parcels will arrive soon @ToastCosILoveIt - 2 arrived for me today, from 24 and 31 December, only my bauble order left now!

Both the navy poplin dress and the blue chambray dress are going back. They do make me feel fabulous and I feel like a crinoline lady in the navy one, see photos 😬The field pyjama trousers are a joy and they’re staying. I’m finished with Toast sale shopping now which feels like a bit of a weird relief, not sure what that’s about 🤷‍♀️

Saurus72 · 08/01/2022 14:16

*don’t make me feel fabulous🙄

faustina · 08/01/2022 14:39

I think I get the weird relief thing. I'm just about to return everything I picked up from John Lewis yesterday - nothing Toast - a Kin gilet which was really rigid and uncomfortable, and three JL cashmere wraps none of which quite seemed worth the £50 (half price but still...)

There was an article in the Guardian about the massive waste from returning things but I hope I manage to return my stuff in good enough shape to be resold - always make a point of doing so quickly too. My local JL really doesn't seem very well stocked anymore so it's a gamble if you want to try something specific on.

As for Toast, their sizing is so off the wall, you never know how something will look until you try!

dudsville · 08/01/2022 14:47

I love reading all the reviews. Glad someone can enjoy that nice dress @Toastcosiloveit!

Saurus72 · 08/01/2022 14:48

Yes I read that article - some companies said they charge a restocking fee. I was totting up what I ordered vs what I kept from Toast. I ordered 2 dresses, 2 toiletry bags, a robe, pyjama bottoms, a nightie and some baubles. I kept the robe, 2 toiletry bags and pj bottoms, and the baubles so over 50% hit rate.

I think I’m kind of resigning myself to the fact that I’m now buying things in season and paying full price when they make me feel great and I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of them. The 4 dresses I bought over the past few months cost a lot, but have all been worn loads, and I know I’ll carry on wearing them into spring. So maybe sales now are for things like PJs? I wonder if JL is going to carry on stocking Toast online or if they’re getting rid of them altogether?

Saurus72 · 08/01/2022 15:00

Sorry, one further rumbling from me then I’ll get back to my Saturday! I’ve tried a few things from other brands during the sales - an otherwise fab Kin khaki dress that unfortunately stuck out at the back because of the poplin fabric, some Whistles dresses that were a comparable price to Toast but such crap fabric I couldn’t believe it, plus a dress from Reiss - fabric felt really cheap, just not good. I like Cos and Arket but I find the sizing and fit even less predictable than Toast so I can only really shop there when I can go back into London.

I think I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that for me, Toast delivers what I need. There are loads of things that don’t suit me but the things that do are almost perfect and I wear them on repeat. I don’t enjoy trawling the shops trying to find things so the Toast offering of small collections, small shops, pockets (praise be) and generally things made for grown women works. But that is a massive pressure because if they go bust I am royally screwed!

ScottishMouse · 08/01/2022 15:45

Totally with you on this @Saurus72, it’s really the only shop worth bothering with for me.

faustina · 08/01/2022 15:57

There's one last thing I'd quite like to find, which is a pair of trousers. Might have a look at the Margaret Howell sale which hasn't started yet, or see if JL has any Alix returns.

Your success rate was pretty good Saurus! I returned three t-shirts, two jumpers and a pair of pyjama bottoms. Will hopefully keep the smaller pyjama bottoms if they fit, and two more scarves to add to my other two - they've been my sale stars, along with three Brora jumpers

I was also looking elsewhere at trousers and found nothing except a lot of polyester and I don't have the energy to embark on another round of trying on and returning

ilovecherries · 08/01/2022 16:35

I have ordered clothes from toast that I haven’t liked in the flesh, or that don’t suit me, but I don’t think I’ve ever ordered anything and sent it back because of crap quality. I had a couple of things in for alteration the other week and the seamstress was asking about the brand and admiring the finish/seam allowance/hems etc.

ilovecherries · 08/01/2022 16:38

The other thing is, I don’t mind paying for a bit of tweaking for a garment that I know will last a long time. I’m currently planning to have the bodices removed from a couple of summer dresses and have them turned into skirts as I feel they just aren’t quite working for me as dresses anymore.

Saurus72 · 08/01/2022 17:25

Talking of quality, has anyone bought a linen boy t-shirt recently? I bought one last year in the sale and it was perfect - beautiful- until I washed it and it shrank. I would willingly pay £55 if they’ve changed the design/fabric so it doesn’t shrink.

ilovecherries · 08/01/2022 17:41

Toast, can I ask how you style those Oxford shirt dresses? I’m probably slightly triggered by the vitriol elsewhere on MN today, and I haven’t quite recovered from the ‘ugly lady’ and ‘it’s a nun’ comments last year when I was wearing the maroon one. I have both the maroon and the yellow as well, and they are super-comfy dresses but I’m wondering if I should eBay them if I look quite that bad in them!

I have three of these dresses. I have the quite colourful check one, the burgundy one and now the blue one. For me, I would never wear them buttoned to the top. I usually unbutton maybe one or two buttons to give a more relaxed look. I might wear a little vest/cami peeping through. Anything that looks a little 'prim' I would wear with a funky boot or shoe. In summer, I would put on a chunky sandal. I would wear a little cardigan over it. I would steer away from a lace up brogue with this look or loafer as it would just be too much. I think I wore my dm's with the burgundy one with black tights.

That was a really nasty and unpleasant thread, playground behaviour with people clamouring for a second thread. Well it hasnt really gone how the Op expected and some pretty firm comments on the second thread. Clearly the Op has poor self esteem and hasnt got the memo that its unacceptable to comment on other womens bodies or choice of clothes unless invited. I agree with @Saurus72 also. I got fed up with poor quality and following a life style change spend more but buy less to get the quality I want. Ive always knitted and started sewing again. Most importantly I dont buy in an emotional/ impulsive way - it really didnt work for me as I ended up with things that were never right or I found myself wishing I hadnt. I will always refer to the Indigo swing dress as my cult dress from now on Wink
neveradullmoment99 · 08/01/2022 18:15

I would wear brogues or loafers but they would need to be edgey and chunky and not clarks hamble oak to avoid the prim look.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/01/2022 18:15

edgy

neveradullmoment99 · 08/01/2022 18:18

I think that the people on that thread lack imagination in their clothing and can't style their clothes, relying on what the model looks like.
The models on toast can look pretty horrendous in the clothing. That is all they see. They don't imagine how it might look on them or how they may style it differently.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/01/2022 18:22

I agree with someone upthread that commented about the quality of clothing from whistles etc. While it used to be good, a lot is polyester, cheaply hemmed [interlocked - Is that what you call it?]so they spare the smallest amount on material. They are still however charging premium prices.

faustina · 08/01/2022 18:23

@Saurus72 - the linen tee thing has has happened to me too, Very annoying isn't it!

I didn't realise there was a part two to the nasty thread - will go and have a look. People can be so odd can't they?

I had the linen tee in white. Lovely quality but way too see through.
