@neveradullmoment99 - mine was white too - but I dyed it navy and it was great but very much smaller than it was before I washed it!

Also - forgot to mention this before - @ilovecherries - please keep the dark red dress. I've seen pics of you wearing it I think, and you look lovely

NoCureForLove · 08/01/2022 18:44

I have two of those dresses too - the burgundy and the yellowy green and wore them a lot. Ususlly just with bare legs and trainers. And buttoned right up. No one screamed or fainted. Or laughed afaik. Smile

NoCureForLove · 08/01/2022 18:45

Returned a few sale items to a Toast shop today. Heading back are a lys shirt and embroidered pj shirt both 14 and a shetland fairisle medium...

AFingerofFudge · 08/01/2022 18:50

Yes I was a bit Confused and Sad at the Toast bashing threads today. I resisted the urge to post on them.
We all have different "looks" that we like and different clothes brands we prefer but it felt like a really cheap shot going for the jugular with people who like the Toast clothes. Obviously there are some pieces that Toast do that I think I wouldn't be seen dead in, but surely it's like that for every brand. I mean, if you like River Island or Whistles or New Look or whatever then surely no one likes every piece that they do!?!
And anyway, what's wrong with being a little different, a little quirky or a little bit adventurous? Why should we all like the clothing brands that are seen as "acceptable".
I bet most of those people who posted cruel comments on that thread are the sort that post "Be Kind" comments on their social media!!!Hmm

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2022 19:12

I haven't read the bashing thread, but some people just like to make others feel bad, because it makes them feel better.. Luckily we dont all like to look the same! And I for one feel great in my Toast stuff and give no fks if people think otherwise..
Right now I an sitting in my campervan ( yes camping in January!) wearing my Toast alpaca yoke sweater ( the black one from last year).....today I had my merino wool striped top on under a Mira sweater and later ill be wearing myToast brushed cotton pyjamas .. Smile

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2022 19:13

We are in Bristol on a city break..

dudsville · 08/01/2022 19:14

I looked on those threads. It reminded me of the cliques at school, but cliques of course aren't limited to that age. It's just that at school we were in the biggest mix of styles of our lives probably, and each group looked down on the other. It's the same now. As a lovely woman once said "when they go low, we go high", because what does it really matter in the end. And we aren't one voice here, I think I'm one of the few to have kept the lys top and I can still enjoy it. And I don't suit the shirt dresses but agree with the pp who said they look great on those who have it. I bought the red and black check dress (pihu?) because someone several threads back looked fab in it. I tried every size but it just didn't suit me body, but it's a very cool/hip dress.

I'm waiting on the needlework yoke skirt, I ordered both colours but imagine the green will more easily go with my wardrobe. I imagine pairing it with the lys top and looking very 1940s! Will def wear DMs with it though!

dudsville · 08/01/2022 19:16

Fabulous camping attire @Laska2Meryls!

dudsville · 08/01/2022 19:21

Oh and I agree about Whistles. I never rely knew the brand before but I bought two summer tops this year, 100 cotton. They got a lot of wear but one is already showing signs of an early death, and the green on the other, which seemed nice and deep, twisted in the wash. They're still good tops but the quality just wasn't there.

Sorry for the multiple texts, I find it hard to read and keep up!

Blossomtoes · 08/01/2022 19:22

I think that the people on that thread lack imagination in their clothing and can't style their clothes, relying on what the model looks like

I think they’re a little coven of bitches and all their taste is in their mouths.

MmeD · 08/01/2022 19:32

@TempleofZoom, if you don’t mind my asking, what sort of things do you sew and what patterns do you use? I’m determined to get back into sewing this year after a break of a few years and would like some pointers.

AFingerofFudge · 08/01/2022 19:46

@Laska2Meryls kudos to you camping in January. I'm sure wearing the Toast yoke sweater will more than make up for the cold! We are close to Bristol - have fun!

KingofQueens · 08/01/2022 19:46

@neveradullmoment99

I think that the people on that thread lack imagination in their clothing and can't style their clothes, relying on what the model looks like. The models on toast can look pretty horrendous in the clothing. That is all they see. They don't imagine how it might look on them or how they may style it differently.
I was going to comment almost exactly this on the thread, but decided against getting involved. But yes, Toast clothes need to be worn by people who can style them and really wear the clothes, rather than let the clothes wear them - you do need to be creative and understand style, which isn't the case if you're just chucking on a dress you picked up at the supermarket. It was such an odd thread, but it just made me see how people don't really care about quality fabrics and longevity of clothing and it makes me sad that people are still committed to fast fashion.
Stoic123 · 08/01/2022 19:56

I haven't taken the other thread(s) too much to heart - I wouldn't be at all interested in some of the alternatives mentioned (Karen Millen et al). I am a relatively recent Toast convert. I couldn't really understand why a friend of mine was so keen, until I bought a couple of dresses/pinafores and then just fell in love with the way they felt to wear and how they made me feel.

Not everything suits me- I'm short waisted/wide hipped so the dresses/skirts work much better than the trousers/jackets. The odd item can be very strange and I do roll my eyes sometimes at the weird sizing, mushrooms, ladders and lugging lumps of wood around (but that adds to the fun a bit).

Would like to say a big thank you to everyone on this thread - it is great to have a place where I can get advice on sizing etc.

Hi
Dont mind at all Smile
So far Ive made a couple of linen tiered dresses, a skirt and several pairs of culottes.

The culottes are elasticated waist, easy to adapt , length etc
They are my go to in summer/ autumn.
They are the Ninni Culottes by Named Clothing.
I also like the patterns from The Assembly Line .
I made the Cuff Top and plan on making the dress version.
Tips
Check the sizing against a garment that fits you well, dont rely on the dress size on the pattern.
I find with TAL and NC -Swedish and Finnish companies, they come up very oversized indeed.
I used fairly reasonable fabric from either JL or Ray Stitch.
Merchant and Mills for a second ,tweaked version.
Have a look on Instagram as most popular designers have hashtags for all their garments which is incredibly useful in seeing what others made, fabric adjustments.
Have fun Smile

I’d like to thank everyone on this thread too. I’m a recent convert after going to the shop in Llandeilo last July and realising that not only do the clothes fit me but they are such good quality. I decided to spend more less often (sounds good in theory!).
I’ve bought the chambray dress (love it) and the tala summer dress in pesto. It wasn’t until they sent the email asking me to review it that I realised I was missing the sash. Customer service say the warehouse will be searched and the sash posted. I’m not holding my breath.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 08/01/2022 20:15

I find this thread really helpful for all the styling tips and sizing advice. I wish I could have made the chambray shirt dress work for me as I could see it would have been really useful, and it looks so good on those that have posted pictures.

I ordered 3 shirts, 2 dresses, a bandana and a skirt. The 2 dresses have gone back, and I’m still experimenting with the skirt. I’ve surprised myself with the shirts as I’ve always struggled to get shirts that don’t gape at the bust but the Toast ones are perfect.

I returned to Toast last year after a break of several years and I’m still working out what works for me, but I do so love a decent pocket Smile.

The same thing happened to me and the sash arrived a couple of days after !

@TempleofZoom

Thank you, I’m obviously way too cynical.

MmeD · 08/01/2022 20:30

Thank you @TempleofZoom. Grin

Off to Google.

The pockets are fab! I love pockets too.
Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2022 21:35

I have just ordered the gathered hem skirt in Oil... I dont wear skirts that often but this one has been waving at me for some time.. Does anyone have it? What do you think?

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2022 21:37

Am sitting here in my van in my Toast PJs now!

Laska2Meryls · 08/01/2022 21:38

Luckily van has good heating.. its camping for softies!

Stoic123 · 08/01/2022 22:04

@Laska2Meryls- I have the oil skirt. It is the most flattering of my Toast skirts (probably any of my skirts) as skims beautifully over my hips/no bunching. The colour is unusual - looks dark dreen in some lights and then almost black in others. Oil is good name for the colour- slight sheen. It can be worn with both baggy or tighter tops/jumpers.

The material is thinner than I expected. The waistband is elasticated so wiggle room but I didn't need to size down as I normally do with Toast.

Of course, it has pockets.

It hasn't got as much of a wow factor as some Toast clothes but it is just so wearable. I love it.
