£400 for “really nice” jumper

A generous relative wants to spend about £400 (they’d go up to 500) on a “really nice” jumper for me.

My normal spending limit is around next/fat face/m and s, so I have no idea where to start looking at that price.

I’m middle aged, a bit fat (5 foot 8, size 14-16) and a SAHM. I like cashmere and very simple classic unfussy looks.

Any shop suggestions?

@JustLikea

*@PurplePikachu* Do please show us what you end up purchasing. I personally would love a jumper from Eribe or similar from any Scottish seller.
Eribé is wonderful- so cosy and actually quite a bit less than £400.
IntermittentParps · 15/12/2021 08:41

It is an unnecessary figure to spend on a jumper! There is absolutely lovely stuff for less than half of that.

How the other half live 😂 spending £500 on a jumper is alien to me

Sezane for £100-150 and then a nice pair of jeans?

Why are people still giving unwanted 'advice' and laughing at the amount being offered?
It's really simple to understand what the offer is (a jumper, not lots of cheap jumpers or a pair of jeans); and it's not your life: stop bloody judging.

@KimikosNightmare and @PurplePikachu &Daughter have 30% off selected styles at the moment! (For newsletter subscribers). They also do a January sale. Brora do too - is it worth holding off til the sales start @PurplePikachu?
PurplePikachu · 15/12/2021 11:40

Actually yeah the more I’ve looked the more I’ve thought January sales would be best!

I have just found an Eribe stockist! ( in New Zealand!) .
A parcel is winging its way to me as we speak!
Thank you ( even if bank balance doesn’t)

@IntermittentParps I wasn’t judging! The op herself even seems a little overwhelmed at spending that amount on one jumper. I gave suggestions ffs.

Does she? Hmm I thought she was just looking for pointers.

And 'It is an unnecessary figure to spend on a jumper' is PRETTY judgy. 'unnecessary' by whose lights? and why even say it when that's the figure that's been offered.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:31

I'd try to get 2 really nice cashmere jumpers for that price.

I don't like cashmere much though in case I shrink it, moths get to it and so on.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:31

for that price in sales I meant

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:32

I agree on the &Daughter and Brora though. Both have jumpers I'd like and I have a Brora one.

Gonnagetgoing · 17/12/2021 09:37

[quote Jules0702]How about this? I’ve been listing after it:

@Jules0702 - I forgot about N Peal - they were a trendy brand when I was a teenager and obsessed with Sloane fashion and when I actually wore cashmere and lambswool. They're another good cashmere brand.

That jacket is lovely Smile.

IvorCutler · 17/12/2021 09:50

Oh do piss off @IntermittentParps

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 17/12/2021 09:55

@WonderfulYou

No way would I spend more than £30 on a jumper!

Ask them if you can have the money/vouchers and buy a few things. You could get a brand new wardrobe for that!

Me neither, but only because I'd probably spill something on it and ruin it
KimikosNightmare · 17/12/2021 12:17

Sezane for £100-150 and then a nice pair of jeans?

The budget was £400 up to £500 so if £150 was spent on the jumper that leaves between £250 to £350 for the "nice pair of jeans"

If you're going to criticise paying £400 to £500 on a jumper, which is likely to be far more ethically made and individually styled, you're skating on extremely thin ice suggesting £250- £350 on a "nice pair of jeans" is somehow a better way to spend money.

gunnersgold · 17/12/2021 12:45

I want the pink Bella freud one but it's out of stock everywhere . Her jumpers are really nice and about that price !

PurplePikachu · 17/12/2021 17:06

Thanks for all the comments :)

I have sent generous relative the links for several jumpers that I like, each of which are well below the £4-500 mark, and asked them to choose whichever they think looks best as they’re more knowledgeable about clothes etc and always choose such lovely things. So we’ll see what happens on the day!

Appreciate all the suggestions :)

Hoping for the Big Hug for Christmas from Aethel.
www.aethel.com/shop/the-big-hug/rust/
Like that they are made here in London and in super posh Loro Piana cashmere.
Brora great too.
