£400 for “really nice” jumper

PurplePikachu · 13/12/2021 16:43

A generous relative wants to spend about £400 (they’d go up to 500) on a “really nice” jumper for me.

My normal spending limit is around next/fat face/m and s, so I have no idea where to start looking at that price.

I’m middle aged, a bit fat (5 foot 8, size 14-16) and a SAHM. I like cashmere and very simple classic unfussy looks.

Any shop suggestions?

@Bunnycat101

I’ve been put off cashmere after some lovely jumpers became very holey- not sure if the moths got them or if they just disintegrated. I was so gutted as I loved them. If she wants to get clothes I’d be tempted by a coat or boots at that price point instead of a jumper to get something that’s likely to last.
It'll have been moths; they have excellent taste and LOVE cashmere and nice wool etc.

I'd very happily receive this www.broraonline.com/uk/cashmere-ribbed-funnel-neck-swan-wqp9031b0065 🙂

WonderfulYou · 13/12/2021 19:12

That's a bit ungracious. If someone wants to get you something in particular I think you should accept it.

£500 for one jumper is a waste and I’d be surprised if you can either get one for that price.

You can turn down the offer in a kind way.
My family member wanted to buy me a PS5 and I said it’s too much money to spend on something that won’t get used very often.

GivenchyDahhling · 13/12/2021 19:18

I have a few Bella Freud jumpers but I wouldn’t say the quality is worth the price tag. I do like them though.

3WildOnes · 13/12/2021 19:20

I have a few Brora cashmere jumpers and they are excellent quality.

As has been pointed out, OP wants some advice about where to buy a jumper not whether to.

It may be a waste to you but that wasn't the question. She obviously wants to know where to get a good quality jumper, hence the post.

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2021 19:22

Thanks campion, you said it for me!

Just have a quick Google of ‘cashmere jumper’.

itwasntaparty · 13/12/2021 19:45

@WonderfulYou

No way would I spend more than £30 on a jumper!

Ask them if you can have the money/vouchers and buy a few things. You could get a brand new wardrobe for that!

I don't know where I'd go to get a jumper under £30.

Op, Brora is what you need.

ToManderleyAgain · 13/12/2021 20:23

Brora would be my usual ‘go to’ for something special but I have gone weak at the knees swooning over this Aethel jumper www.aethel.com/shop/the-outsized-knit/smoke/

Olliphant · 13/12/2021 20:25

Eribe
Brora

Guess what I want for Christmas!

Bunnycat101 · 13/12/2021 20:46

Dann all of you and your links. I’ve now fallen in love with a beautiful children’s cardigan in Brora. It would be ridiculous to buy anything hand wash only for my girls but now have decided I need the JoJo alternative when I absolutely did not need any more jumpers an hour ago for them.

WonderfulYou · 13/12/2021 21:06

😂😂😂
Sorry I forgot this was mumsnet.

Joseph have some amazing luxurious cashmere jumpers, they are around £400-500 or less if you wait for the sales: www.joseph-fashion.com/en-gb/womens/knitwear/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6Kf2ydzh9AIVjOR3Ch3xmQAOEAAYASAAEgIx0fD_BwE

Another good option is aethel (ethical luxury cashmere): www.aethel.com/shop/

There is also &daughter, which is great quality and design, although wool not cashmere: www.and-daughter.com/collections/jumpers

Houseplantmad · 13/12/2021 21:45

Sezane for £100-150 and then a nice pair of jeans?

Itsnotdeep · 13/12/2021 22:03

I like &daughter and am also hankering after an oversized 1970 jumper.

fucking moths in my house though too.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 13/12/2021 22:20

I completely get not being able to spend more than £30 on a jumper. But I really do not understand announcing a refusal to ever do so as if it’s some sort of principled stance, on a thread started by someone who wants help doing that exact thing because of a kind and generous present. It’s kind of mean.

Anyway, the vast majority of jumpers priced under £30 are either produced in a way that’s ethically dodgy or made with plastic, or both; so it’s not like they’re normally the better option in a big picture sense.

katemuff · 13/12/2021 22:25

Brora for sure :) I'm so jealous!

Amelion · 13/12/2021 22:51

I’d go for:
Brora.
Ami Amalia.
Knotty Ones.
&Daughter.

Amelion · 13/12/2021 22:51

Lol at the person who couldn’t believe you could get a jumper for £500.

Jules0702 · 14/12/2021 00:15

How about this? I’ve been listing after it:
