Is it me or are dry shampoos like the emperor's new clothes?

I've tried every single one in existence and they do naff all for my hair except make it smell and feel weird. Still greasy but now greasy and full of some weird product.

Sali Hughes recommended a living proof one recently that I bought because she said it was nothing like normal dry shampoo and actually cleans your hair, leaving it feeling almost like you've shampooed it.

Absolute rubbish! Anyone else find this??

Yep, me too. It makes mine look less greasy, but not enough that I'd actually go out with it like that. And yes, weird texture and difficult to style.

WhatHoMarjorie · 27/11/2021 23:19

Nope. I love them and would be fecked if they all suddenly disappeared from the shelves. I have really fine, straight hair and without dry shampoo my hair would look lank and a bit greasy a few hours after washing. I tend to apply it after I've blow dryed, a pre-emptive strike so to speak.

Batiste is my go-to but I really like the Living Proof one. I just can't justify the cost of it.

mrselizabethdarcy · 27/11/2021 23:20

I use batiste and think it's amazing! You have to spray the roots and then rub it out with your fingers but it's great.

HerRoyalHappiness · 27/11/2021 23:20

The only one that ever worked for me was wilkos own brand £1 a bottle brunette dry shampoo. My hair looked great after and felt great too. But they've discontinued it and I've bever been able to find a replacement as every other one leaves my hair still greasy and feeling weird.
Even leave in shampoo and shampoo caps don't work (I'm disabled and can't always wash my hair)

MagicMatilda · 27/11/2021 23:21

I’ve tried sooo many! Living Proof is the best of a bad bunch. Does anyone think it smells of wet dog though?

TheShriekingShack · 27/11/2021 23:22

Yes! It’s really weird, I haven’t found any other makeup/toiletry product like this. From high-end to cheap they are mostly rubbish. Batiste is the only one I find is ok.

ouchmyfeet · 27/11/2021 23:24

The key is to use it before your hair gets greasy. I wash my hair in the morning and without dry shampoo it would be greasy within 24 hours. If I use dry shampoo before I go to bed I can get a second day from it.

I do agree that they're always a bit crap though. I'd love my hair to feel clean every day but I hate washing it every day Confused

Cherry321 · 27/11/2021 23:40

Yep it’s almost like if you’re hair is greasy, it’s too late. Altho a quick squirt on freshly washed hair will keep it looking cleaner for longer.

MajesticWhine · 27/11/2021 23:46

It works for me. I have very fine straight hair. It gets me through second or third day hair. Haven't tried living proof.

RogueV · 27/11/2021 23:48

Klorane is amazing

surreygirl1987 · 27/11/2021 23:49

It definitely works for me! I get really greasy hair but batiste gives me an extra day before I need to wash it. It makes it a weird texture but at least it's not shiny/greasy!

Evesgarden · 27/11/2021 23:50

It does not work in my hair, but a relative who has very thick hair swears by it.

Sakura7 · 27/11/2021 23:51

Batiste is brilliant stuff. Any other brand I've tried has been crap though.

LemonViolet · 27/11/2021 23:55

The Living Proof one is brilliant, but yes stupid price, I really like the Collab as well - they do a unicorn scented one! Unicorns smell like jasmine apparently, who knew. I buy the Collab one in packs of 6 from Amazon once or twice a year.

LemonViolet · 27/11/2021 23:57

Oh yes I have long thick wavy hair, masses of it, roots need a wash about 2 days before the ends do, and dry shampoo sorts it right out.

Unmerited · 27/11/2021 23:58

The Living Proof is the best of a bad bunch. I find the smell of most of them overwhelming. The Living Proof one smells like knock-off Eternity to me which is ok-ish.

lancs54 · 27/11/2021 23:59

Seconding Klorane. The green bottle. Magic stuff.

SlipperyLizard · 28/11/2021 00:00

They don’t do much for my (fine, greasy) hair but on my DD’s (thick) hair it is literally magic - it transforms her hair from greasy to fresh in minutes.

HeidiHaus · 28/11/2021 00:01

Lidl own brand is better than Batiste!

immersivereader · 28/11/2021 00:02

I do think it's better to use it the day before. It still doesn't actually clean your hair though

HerRoyalHappiness · 28/11/2021 00:06

I only get one day out of washing my hair, and even using it the night before doesn't work Sad I wish it did. It would make my life much easier

YokoOnosHat · 28/11/2021 00:07

God no, I would be so screwed without dry shampoo. It’s a staple here in the bathrooms at Chez OnosHat. Without it I’d actually have to wash mine and my kids hair more often than twice a week! Even DH uses it and he hasn’t even got much hair to freshen up.

BourbonScreams · 28/11/2021 00:07

Ooh I used to use it all the time as a teen, it definitely made my hair look less greasy but I found it uncomfortable. I've heard it works better on blondes which may be why I got better results. I think it was batiste i used.

DaisyNGO · 28/11/2021 00:08

The day before what? 😂

I try to wash my hair daily but bought Batiste and Tresemme for times I can't. They were no help.

I might need a restyle product but worried they will make it look greasy?

UserOfManyNames · 28/11/2021 00:08

I have very fine hair shoulder length hair and have to wash it everyday.

I did try Batiste, and some other ones I can’t remember the name of, to see if I could go a couple of days without washing it but my roots just felt like I’d had lots of hair gel in that had dried (remember from my teen years!) Didn’t feel fresh either so I’d rather just wash it!

I find using shampoo bars makes blow drying it much quicker for some reason
