General “Waifs and Strays” Beauty Advent Calendar opening thread

As last year, I suggest we use this as a general beauty advent calendar thread for everyone with beauty calendars that may not be covered by other threads or who prefers a general thread. I’m opening FM, Harrods and M&S this year, and will aim to post on both this and the M&S threads.

Please can no-one post any spoilers before 7am on the relevant day.

Just over a week to go. I’m really looking forward to it!

Shower gel in my Rituals this morning and the salt in the Degustabox. Happy with both.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 13/12/2021 11:59

I am getting serious salt envy. I hunted for something to hold my salt as I need to be able to get spoonfuls out for bread but the best I could find was a plastic tub with a twist off lid. The degusta one looks very posh.

Peridot1 · 13/12/2021 12:04

@OchonAgusOchonOh - the container is cardboard with a cork top so I’m not sure it will last long really. I haven’t opened it up to see inside yet.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/12/2021 12:10

I agree - as lovely as it looks, I'm not sure the salt container will be very durable. I'm glad to have it though! There was Maldon sea salt in last year's and it lasted ages and made me feel very posh every time I used some Xmas Grin

It looked like pottery.

My envy is now goneXmas Grin

@OchonAgusOchonOh, what about using a traditional sugar pot instead? Must be able to find a nice pottery one?

The problem is I need something small as it is on a spice rack but thanks for the suggestion.

I need to do a bit more looking. I'd normally look for something like that at craft fairs but they've been a bit thin on the ground over the last while.

Peridot1 · 13/12/2021 14:16

Glad I was able to lay your green eyed monster! Grin

Thank you. I'll check them out at the weekend - no online TK Maxx here.
JustLikea · 13/12/2021 14:31

@OchonAgusOchonOh it cost between £10-20. Not the price you'll find online.

Le Creuset is not cheap but it is nice.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 13/12/2021 15:22

I don't often shop in T K Maxx as there isn't one local to me but I went away recently and there was one near where we were staying. I never knew they sold Le Creuset or Joseph Joseph and may have accidentally spent a small fortune!

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 13/12/2021 15:22

I got a butter dish which was £14.99 I think so would expect the salt pig to be a bit less than that.

NMC2022 · 13/12/2021 15:27

I can't remember who said they got the salt but I buy that, and it's lovely. Container has lasted too

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/12/2021 16:52

I saw some beautiful teal Le Crueset measuring jugs in TK Maxx at the weekend. So cheap too! They have amazing bargains in there

Fenwick was a bit disappointing again today, not the product but the small size. Sizes seem much smaller than last year. Product was the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, but only 7g, which is about £7-8 worth of product.

Standard has definitely dropped from last year.

M&S, black eye liner pencil. Yawn.

The eyeliner is more a dark grey. It's actually quite nice on. I'd say give it a go.

PK gloss cream from Markies today, caramel poo one from Joe & Seph and not one, not two but THERE terry chocolate orange bars Xmas Grin.

I'm obsessed with these grated and used in the velvetiser to make orange hot choc.

I was just saying to DH at the weekend I would like to try a Terry's choc orange velvetiser hot chocolate so now I know what I'm doing with the bars from Degustabox!

It's serum say for me today, an Oskia one in CB (RRP £78) so very happy with that and a teeny Vit C serum in Feelunique.

RazorstormUnicorn · 14/12/2021 07:53

It must the time for eyeliners, I got a blueberry one in Lumene this morning Smile

I wanted to try it immediately but am hosting training for another time zone in eight minutes and am not good at eyeliner and didn't want to rush it and have that on video (session is being recorded!)
