Is this chavvy?
I get why you'd think it but I think its more of a subtle modern version that the old block letter gold MUM necklaces.

He just told me to take it off because he doesn't like it. He was being petty because he brought a weird hat (that made him look like he was wearing a stiff condom on his head) last week and I politely and subtly asked him to wear the woolly hat and said it's more weather appropriate but really it wasn't because of that its just made him look so silly, its more suited for the hipster look. OH style is generally just well he doesnt care and will wear anything, doesnt care what it looks like together. I asked him to not wear this hat that he got last week.

My necklace is hidden and under my top, it's not being viewed by everyone.

I’ve read the thread hoping for a picture of his hat.

Stiffcondomhat · 13/11/2021 16:15

Also just here for the photo

Tal45 · 13/11/2021 16:16

I love the word chavvy, everyone immediately understands exactly what it means. I like the odd chavtastic thing myself. My OH has a brown wool hat that he has stretched all the bottom of by pulling it down too far and it looks like a flower pot. He doesn't care though and loves it so chooses to ignore me which is fine as I wouldn't let him tell me what to wear either.

Dahlietta · 13/11/2021 16:19

yes it's actually similar to this without the bit on the top

No fucking way is it in any way similar to the hat @Dontbeme posted!! Grin

OkayTrinny · 13/11/2021 16:26

@Stiffcondomhat

Are you mocking me Grin

@Dahlietta

It does 😂. The bottom is folded and it's a light tan colour. I will try and have a good look to see if I can find it and will post

sounds like tit for tat to me.

Benjispruce5 · 13/11/2021 16:34

I don’t like necklaces as name tags but it’s up to you what you wear.

Chikapu · 13/11/2021 16:35

@KirstenBlest

Could you post a photo or link to the stiff condom hat please?
Yes! I must see it.
OliveHenry · 13/11/2021 16:38

Is it like this? This is from Missoni, so would be a very expensive condom Grin

Benjispruce5 · 13/11/2021 16:40

Oh my god who would wear that?????

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 13/11/2021 16:41

I believe Queen Elizabeth has a rather similar necklace given to her by Prince Charles, the second 'ma' being encrusted with small diamonds to indicate the requirement for a greater emphasis on the second syllable.

So if you pimp your necklace up with some glue and glitter on the second 'ma', you'll be fine.

FallonCarringtonWannabe · 13/11/2021 16:42

I really want to see the condom hat

Stiffcondomhat · 13/11/2021 16:43

@OliveHenry ribbed for her pleasure! Grin

PieMistee · 13/11/2021 16:46

I deffo would tell DH that his hat looked like a condom. Surely better than his mates doing it. I'm really posting because I want to placemark for the picture 😁

Alwayswonderedwhy · 13/11/2021 16:48

A bit naff and twee but not really chavy. I'd put it in the same category as pandora bracelets and Radley bags. Assuming it's been bought for you by a young child I think it's sweet and would be cruel not to wear it.

TractorAndHeadphones · 13/11/2021 16:49

Condom hat is my new favourite MN phrase

I find all word necklaces to be ..emblematic of a certain type, bit like 'live laugh love' signs but really couldn't care.

Your DH isn't wrong though you started it. What you gonna do about it?

OhDear2200 · 13/11/2021 16:52

4 pages and no hat pictures!

TractorAndHeadphones · 13/11/2021 16:54

Also - I've never told DP 'not' to wear anything. I've just been blunt about what it looks like and he takes it off by himself. If he doesn't his mates/other people comment and same result. You telling him not to wear is controlling.

Also your story is inconsistent. First you said you politely asked him to wear something else because weather. Then you said you told him not to wear condom hat ??????

Constellationstation · 13/11/2021 16:57

I’d say it’s cheugy rather than chavvy. I don’t mind the name necklaces so much, but it’s the fact that it says mama is cheugy

XiCi · 13/11/2021 17:06

Grin so very clearly telling him, without actually saying the exact words, that you don't want him to wear something then. He wouldn't 'take it off by himself' if you hadn't told him he looked shit in it Grin

I dont believe any of the people on this thread who are saying this is controlling would happily go on a night out/family meal/theatre/pub wherever with their DP wearing what has been described as a giant, I'll fitting condom on their head

user1471443411 · 13/11/2021 17:07

What does cheugy mean?

hotmeatymilk · 13/11/2021 17:12

@user1471443411 letmegooglethat.com/?q=cheugy

InFiveMins · 13/11/2021 17:13

No it isn't chavvy.

He is behaving like a child because you called him out for wearing a ridiculous hat and he's trying to get back at you for it. Ignore him and continue to wear it.
