Is this chavvy?
I get why you'd think it but I think its more of a subtle modern version that the old block letter gold MUM necklaces.

He just told me to take it off because he doesn't like it. He was being petty because he brought a weird hat (that made him look like he was wearing a stiff condom on his head) last week and I politely and subtly asked him to wear the woolly hat and said it's more weather appropriate but really it wasn't because of that its just made him look so silly, its more suited for the hipster look. OH style is generally just well he doesnt care and will wear anything, doesnt care what it looks like together. I asked him to not wear this hat that he got last week.

My necklace is hidden and under my top, it's not being viewed by everyone.

@DameCelia

We'll I wouldn't wear it because I'm Mum, not Mama (and when did Mama become a thing in England?). But that is completely irrelevant as it's not my neck we're talking about, it's yours. And you do like it. What I, the rest of the internet, or your OH think doesn't matter a shit. You like it, you wear it.
We're English and DS 7 has always called me Mama (not a clue where he got it from) I think it's cute!

@LakeShoreD

Wear the chav necklace. Let him wear his condom hat. Stop dictating what the other should wear because it’s weird and controlling.
This actually made me laugh out loud haha.

Agreed!

XiCi · 13/11/2021 15:11

@Helpstopthepain

You tell him what to wear?
If my DH was wandering round in a condom hat I'd bloody well tell him what to wear as well Grin
Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 13/11/2021 15:13

I want to see the condom hat.

TatianaBis · 13/11/2021 15:14

DH bought a hat that made him look like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland so I know what you mean.

mummabubs · 13/11/2021 15:15

@StormyTeacups

Why do you tell each other not to wear things?
This. With bells on!!
1forAll74 · 13/11/2021 15:17

What an odd thing to post about. People can wear what they like, without any nonsense from others, telling them what they can and can't wear.

TableFlowerss · 13/11/2021 15:19

I think they’re quite ‘on trend’ now but they would have been considered chavy at some point yes.

oakleaffy · 13/11/2021 15:21

Wear what you like!
My son many years ago desperately wanted a simply HIDEOUS England shell suit
Everyone in my family blenched, but I bought it and let him wear it til it was outgrown.
Who cares what others think.

Wear what you like, same goes for him in his condom hat.

tickledtiger · 13/11/2021 15:22

Wear the necklace. He’s probably just sore about the condom hat.

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2021 15:22

Anyone else wanting to google ‘erect condom hat’ ? Obviously I’m not doing so - although noted above image. Fear I would never unsee whatever the results were.

liveforsummer · 13/11/2021 15:24

I don't like the necklace either however it's your choice to wear it. Can't get upset about him telling you not to though when you told him not to wear his hat last week. Normally that would be the issue here

liveforsummer · 13/11/2021 15:28

I assume the condiments hat is just a beanie woth the bottom rolled instead of folded. Seen a few lately so they must be 'in'

Blinky21 · 13/11/2021 15:28

Mama on things makes me me cringe, like those awful sweaters with it emblazoned on, like anyone else cares!?

FatCatThinCat · 13/11/2021 15:29

I had a boyfriend once who told me not to wear an orange jacket I got in the sale. So I wore it every day for the rest of our 4 year relationship.

thepeopleversuswork · 13/11/2021 15:30

What we think of the necklace is irrelevant. .

As others have said you should both wear what you like and stop telling each other what to do.

Justmuddlingalong · 13/11/2021 15:31

If you like it, wear it. If he likes the condom hat, he should wear it. You can't pass judgement on others taste, if when they do the same to you, you take it so personally.

Kernowfornia · 13/11/2021 15:31

Your mistake was not insisting he wore the hat absolutely everywhere. Outsourcing the issue was the way forward, then he has problems with his mates attitude not yours.

lazylinguist · 13/11/2021 15:33

'Chavvy' is not a nice word. But the necklace is definitely into that territory imo. If you are telling him what he's not allowed to wear, then I don’t see how you can object to him doing the same tbh.

I suppose dh and I might comment on a particular garment/accessory if it was really out of character or ridiculous (though that hasn'thappened yet), but we wouldn't actually veto it.

Helpstopthepain · 13/11/2021 15:33

Maybe he has got you one for Christmas and is upset that you got yourself one.
Buy him a new erection hat for Christmas as an apology.

RantyAunty · 13/11/2021 15:33

We must see the condom hat!

The necklace seems fine.

My exH once bought a light blue puffer type coat second hand, but turns out it was a woman coat. The sleeves only reached his elbows.
He insisted on wearing it, even though it looked ridiculous.
I didn't tell him that it did. I made sure it disappeared from the house.

Stovetopespresso · 13/11/2021 15:36

my husbamd has an awful jacket which makes him look really dodgy, sort of Alan Partidge-y, it's 'fallen down' behind some other coats so he can't seem to find it....

NalPolishRemover · 13/11/2021 16:01

Well at least it doesn't say 'mumma' - I absolutely can't stand that word

Cailleach1 · 13/11/2021 16:03

I'll always think 'condom' whenever I see a tight beanie again. I'll probably think oversize condom (y'know XL), whenever I see a loose beanie. Also, I am in possession of an alpaca/merino wool mix beanie. I love it, but you have ruined it for me forever. I'll still wear it, though .

Cailleach1 · 13/11/2021 16:06

Wear your necklace if it makes you think of your children and you are happy to do that. I'm past that 'young' stage .
