Should I buy these? Head says no, heart says yes!

I wore Doc Martens for most of my teenage years and absolutely adored them. It must be nostalgia or hormones or something but I reeeeeeeally want these!

I'm 42 and probably halfway between trendy and conservative when it comes to clothes. I tend to play safe.

So, should I buy them? And if I do, what would I wear them with? Is it acceptable to wear dresses, black tights and docs? Or leggings, chunky socks and docs?

I definitely think you should buy them. Life is too short to deny yourself something you really want!
I think they’re fab

Mackmama · 07/11/2021 21:14

Get them! I got some plain ones after wanting them for ages and I love them! X

PurpleDaisies · 07/11/2021 21:14

Yes they’re beautiful

LindaLooky · 07/11/2021 21:14

Course you should! They are lovely.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/11/2021 21:15

Of course you should buy them!!

And yes to wearing them with all the ways you suggested-and you didn't even mention jeans!

I think these are fab and you won't have any regrets!!

mynameiscalypso · 07/11/2021 21:16

I'm sure this exact question about these boots has been asked before here.

gaggiagirl · 07/11/2021 21:16

Gorgeous and practical too! What's not to love!

BonesInTheOcean · 07/11/2021 21:17

they look beautiful, but I have heard they are not comfortable, or long lasting....

SirChenjins · 07/11/2021 21:17

If you love them get them! They don’t do anything for me and ruin a great pair of docs imo, but since when should it matter what a complete stranger thinks?! Enjoy your boots Smile

RedPandaFluff · 07/11/2021 21:32

I did it! I got them

I had heard that the quality isn't what it used to be, so I watched a YouTube video about it and it looks like they've changed a couple of components over the years.

I also considered the Made In England range but it looks as if there's no real difference.

(@mynameiscalypso - not by me!)

Good for you! I hope you love them!

Chickydoo · 07/11/2021 21:52

They are gorgeous! Love DM's

Leah2005 · 07/11/2021 21:56

I bought a pair of 10 hole cherry red patent ones at the weekend. Apparently I look like a daft old lady in my heeled ankle boots so how much worse can it get? Grin
Glad you bought yours.

Campervan69 · 07/11/2021 22:13

J have purple patent docs, cream leather docs and sparkly black docs. I'm 52. Love them all. Grew up wearing docs to school.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 07/11/2021 22:14

I’ve gone back to my mid 90s style of chunky lace up boots with mini skirts Grin

Call me mutton if you like, I don’t care

Buy the clothes that make you happy

rosyvalentine · 07/11/2021 22:21

Definitely! I bought the plain black version of these boots in the grained leather last year and I'm older than you. They're so comfortable and there was no breaking-in period as I had been warned. Go for it!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/11/2021 22:24

I have been coveting docs too.

I wore them from age 12 until about 17 when addidas gazelles took over.

I'm not sure if the rule of "if you can remember it the first time you're too old to wear it a second time" applies.

I have also been searching for my last pair which I am sure are still knocking around at my parents house somewhere.

Craftycorvid · 07/11/2021 22:26

Enjoy the DMs! I’ve got this pair and they are lovely. I think DMs are a classic in any case.

JamieFrasersBitOnTheSide · 07/11/2021 22:32

I have those and I’m 54. As someone else said life is far too short not to wear things that you love.

LottaHogs · 07/11/2021 22:34

So glad you bought them!

I got my first pair of DM’s for my 50th birthday - I loved them:

Buy them. I'm 46 and I have these. Very comfortable

pooiepooie25 · 07/11/2021 22:46

I'm 50 and have black patent Doc boots. All my teenage DD's friends think I am very cool Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/11/2021 23:38

I've just bought a pair of lilac and teal glittery ones, following on from lavender/pink with heart buckles and a more sensible black pair with clumpy heels.

I love them. Enjoy your purchase

HelloChompy · 08/11/2021 08:19

Good choice OP 😁 I have these in the longer version. I'm not sure when the manufacturing process changed, mine are 8 years old and still going strong (I have several different pairs so do rotate them though). The Vondas are my favourite!

Bontanics · 08/11/2021 09:28

Yeah, they go with everything really. I've got a pair of the red oxblood with yellow laces and they're just getting to the slipper feel now they're properly broken in. I wear them with mini skirts, maxi skirts, jeans and shorts.
