@SmaugMum

Honestly, I’m not imagining it! Someone has managed to bag themselves a great bargain!
Does anyone know how these come up size wise? Im a RL 12 Thank you
TempleofZoom · 06/11/2021 17:33

Oh there was a pic of the pale cord shirt dress !

ScottishMouse · 06/11/2021 17:54

Just catching up with all the chat the last few days. Loving all the photos.
So, it’s got pretty chilly pretty fast here in Scotland. I need tips on how folk wear skirts and dresses in winter if you don’t like to wear tights or leggings (I know, I’m weird…well, it’s actually due to a skin condition, I have never found any that work for me). Please say it’s not impossible, I miss dresses and skirts in the winter.

NoCureForLove · 06/11/2021 18:03

Knee length wool socks? Plus thermal shorts as underwear?

Denim dress over trousers? Narrow tapered ones
Laska2Meryls · 06/11/2021 19:46

Sock shop have good knee high socks...a fair bit cheaper than Falke..

Laska2Meryls · 06/11/2021 19:46

Ive just bought some to wear under culottes

Laska2Meryls · 06/11/2021 19:48

I often wear thin leggings and socks under dresses with boots

ScottishMouse · 06/11/2021 21:08

Thanks ladies, good sock suggestions. The shorts look ace, but I definitely can’t wear that fabric composition in something tight and close to my skin.
I have wondered about the dress over trousers option. It can look really good. But I’ve not mastered it. I think I’m too short and it just looks like I am wearing two outfits at once 🤣 Will have to try again.

ilovecherries · 06/11/2021 21:13

I can’t get a dress and trousers right either. It all feels a bit bulky.

Its the 2 waists that is problematoc ime!

agnesmartin · 06/11/2021 21:35

ScottishMouse have you tried these? finisterre.com/collections/womens-merino-wool-base-layers/products/womens-zephyr-merino-leggings-black

They’re 80% merino and quite thin but warm. They’re a bit looser than normal leggings. I tend to live in them in winter. Finisterre also have bamboo leggings, I’ve not tried them though.

I am still successfully sitting on my hands, patiently (not patiently) waiting for the sales.

SmaugMum · 06/11/2021 23:17

@ScottishMouse, I would second (third?) the Falke merino wool knee-high socks. I swear by the Falke merino wool tights in Anthracite as the perfect colour to coordinate with Toast skirts and dresses, but I can’t stand tights under trousers and I hate the leg chasm between standard socks and Toast’s standard cropped length trouser leg. If you check out Amazon, you will often find the socks reduced by at least 25%.

ScottishMouse · 07/11/2021 06:53

Thanks @agnesmartin, I will go and have a try on of these. I love Finisterre’s baseblTer tops but have never tried the leggings. However if they are not tight they might work.
I will definitely look for some of the Falke knee highs @SmaugMum. I love their merino ankle length socks so much, but had never thought to invest in the knee length ones. And yes, I’ve got some of the ankle length ones from Amazon in the past at a good price.
So many good tips here, I knew I could rely on you all! Thanks!

ScottishMouse · 07/11/2021 08:12

Now, my next question about Toast dresses and skirts in the winter is…what kind of coat or jacket do you wear on top? This is the other reason I tend not to wear dresses and skirts when it gets cold. In spring or early autumn I wear a denim workwear jacket over, but in winter I usually wear a khaki coloured sherpa lined parka (not a Toast one) and it is the wrong length, the wrong style, and too narrow when closed up to wear over long skirts. I had hoped the quilted jacket this season might work, but it is just enormous and makes me look ridiculous. I need ideas please!

BigDayToday · 07/11/2021 08:33

ScottishMouse I'm having the same problem. I tried a swing style light coat from Masai for the warmer-cool weather of Autumn and found the shape worked ok but it was too big really, especially when put on over an already tent-like dress!
I do have a long vintage coat from Laura Ashley which is perfect over pretty much anything as it's full length and fits at the waist but tbh it's a bit warm for it still. I'll be really interested to see what others wear.

I've just put freshly washed ones on today and they are a little snug but sloosen pretty quickly. Slightly thinner material than the roll neck. Perhaps try a couple of sizes?

I too struggle with coats so am no help there!

SmaugMum · 07/11/2021 10:36

@ScottishMouse, this one from the Jil Sander Uniqlo +J range. It is the best winter coat I have ever owned as it is lightweight, warm, shower resistant, easy to wear over dresses, skirts and trousers of all proportions and lengths - so practical and stylish without being too Regatta-ish.

SmaugMum · 07/11/2021 10:42

@ScottishMouse, the new Jil Sander Uniqlo collaboration launches on November 21 and I have my eye on this volume puffer vest as I think it be great to wear over my various fair isle jumpers and Gabis, plus Toast denim and workwear dresses etc.

ToastCosILoveIt · 07/11/2021 10:50

@SmaugMum, I have that coat from last year too and wore it endlessly. Haven't got it out yet this year. I am looking forward to the next collaboration launching.

SmaugMum · 07/11/2021 11:07

@ToastCosILoveIt, don’t forget to set your alarm super-early on the 21st - folks go wild for the Jil Sander launches!

ToastCosILoveIt · 07/11/2021 11:41

@SmaugMum, will do but isnt it on the 18th?

HappyDays101010 · 07/11/2021 12:50

Re coats I have bought the Blaest Madrid raincoat to go over skirts, and. a thin dawn jacket to go underneath it for extra warmth in winter. It is shorter than Toast skirts so I’m not 100% about it - we be interested in other’s opinions? But it is an interesting combination of high tech fabric and Edwardian swooshiness.
