I feel the same @SmaugMum and @dudsville. The work jacket I had to buy is a fitted style, nipped in at the waist, and I can’t believe that people choose to wear styles like that I feel so constricted in it. Similarly, I recently got rid of all my jeans, and cannot understand how I ever wore them, so uncomfortable.

Countmeout · 01/12/2021 08:37

When do we think John Lewis might drop prices? The lace yolk sweater is calling although I think it might be more murky than the colour online (the teal) , who has it?

QsGal · 01/12/2021 12:10

My Koyo pyjamas have arrived and I LOVE THEM. Thank you for the advice on sizing the medium are perfect, not too tight but still smart. I now very tempted to get the gown. I’ve never felt so glamorous in pyjamas Smile

Gonegrey31 · 01/12/2021 12:22

Countmeout I bought (and returned) that sweater - the colours are beautiful, rich jewel tones (not murky at all) but I found the wool to be scratchy (I'm really fussy about wanting sweaters to be soft against my skin) and the fit was snug. I'm normally a size S in Toast sweaters but would have gone for a M if I had wanted t keep this sweater.
I hope it gets reduced for you!

@Countmeout, the JL online sale usually starts on Christmas Eve, once the bricks and mortar stores are closed. However, you could buy it now and then once it’s reduced, do a Never Knowingly Undersold price match claim as it would be within the required 28 days of purchase.

The thing about toast sizing is that it's not consistent - also many other brands, so you could go on blithely ordering 'your' size and quite often end up with something that just doesn't fit. I am fairly sure Toast doesn't mean for that coat to look odd on the shoulders.

I also don't really care too much what a brand wants something to look like on me - it's more about how I want it to look. Eg my favourite jumper ever is a very thick shetland style cashmere jumper from Gap - It's a size L tall and I'm neither large nor tall but it's perfect!

One thing I found interesting when I was trying to work out sizing for the plus J Uniqlo collab - watching some strange Youtube videos by Japanese women - they quite often bought very big sizes which changed the look of the clothes in a good way, and also bought men's pieces too - and thinking back over my life I've often also bought men's clothes! Did no-one else used to live in those wonderful huge lambswool jumpers from Marks and Spencer?

Anyway I have found the coat in a 10 at one of the outlet stores and am going to gamble on the fact that I'll have to pay to return it if it's no good. They're posting it to me today hopefully so will cross my fingers!

So ignoring the slippers and woolly socks, what do you think about this very A line coat? If I keep it, I will need to use a few inches from the belt to make belt loops.

Definitely keep!

Oh i love this so much, you look fantastic! What a unique colour.
Pheasantlysurprised · 01/12/2021 15:12

I am so so so bloody sad that i had something in the checkout and waited too long. I am in love with the mini postier cross body bag in black and it's just gone this week! I have tried looking elsewhere but can't locate any. Sad

TheChattyRat · 01/12/2021 15:46

These ones?

faustina · 01/12/2021 15:47

@Pheasantlysurprised - is it bleu de chauffe? Have you tried their website?

faustina · 01/12/2021 15:49

Great minds Chatty! I have bought from that website - the slightly bigger cross body pastel(?) - it's a great bag!

Countmeout · 01/12/2021 15:53

I think that coat looks great @ilovecherries. Do you need to wear a belt with it al all?
I will look at the sweater in a real shop at the weekend @Gonegrey31@SmaugMum and decide if I love it. Can you try on in John Lewis?
The bags on the bleu de chauffe website are lovely. I think there may be customs to pay on them though?

ilovecherries · 01/12/2021 16:03

Even if I’m not fastening it, I quite like a belt to pull the back in a bit and then just knot through side loops. It’s growing on me though.

Really gorgeous coat - and I bet that weirdly, like red, it will almost become a neutral. It would look great with navy, grey, olive, white, bottle green maybe?

faustina · 01/12/2021 16:29

@Countmeout - I didn't, but it was just before Brexit proper. You could try asking them on their chat thing. Lots of EU companies have made other arrangements I think. I have my eye on another bag from them - the gibeciere

ToastCosILoveIt · 01/12/2021 18:11

@ilovecherries, that coat looks fab but then I have it and so am biased. I hadn't thought about using a bit of the belt to add side loops although 90% of the time I don't do up coats anyway.

savvy7 · 01/12/2021 18:17

I tried the lace yoke jumper and also found it scratchy so it went back.

ToastCosILoveIt · 01/12/2021 18:25

I have the lace yoke jumper in the blue. I think mine is a large so I sized up as I am a 12. It is nice but I haven't worn it as much as I thought I would.

ScottishMouse · 01/12/2021 18:52

@ilovecherries, I love the coat! I’m now looking at it online wondering if I could squeeze into an 8! What’s the sizing like?

ToastCosILoveIt · 01/12/2021 18:56

@ScottishMouse, sizing is big: I have the 10 and I am a 12. I reckon I could have got away with an 8.

ScottishMouse · 01/12/2021 19:00

Very tempted! Outerwear has become my new obsession. Two jackets in the sale. I am still searching for the elusive perfect winter coat though, so I should maybe take a pass on this as it clearly isn’t that.

dudsville · 01/12/2021 19:06

I also love your coat @ilovecherries! I'm waiting for mine in the post.

Everything else arrived. I'm keeping the palm dress. I love it so much. And the canvas part front trousers in blue grey and Verde gris too. The fabric is so soft. I will need to make adjustments. The trouser waists need a triangle removed from the back, common problem for me. The dress is too loose up top so I'll add a few stiches there too. Reasonable jobs for such discounted items! The trousers will replace some from a couple of years ago that get worn so much in summer I've already made several fixes.

faustina · 01/12/2021 19:18

@ScottishMouse - you're also on a coat hunt? What kind are you looking for?

If you saw something in the archive sale and want to take a gamble (because returns aren't free) - they quite possibly have it at the outlet stores
