I think the cost looks lovely on you Faustina and I suspect a bigger size would swamp you. Do you have a clothes steamer ? Maybe the shoulders have become creased or something from being packed tightly. Try hanging the coat up on a wooden coat hanger overnight and see if the shape of the shoulders improves. Just a thought.

Greenfinches · 30/11/2021 17:01

Could it be that it’s too tight around the armholes and upper arms? I had a similar effect with a raglan sleeved jacket I bought last year. I find that the shoulders only sit properly if I’m wearing a very fine and fitted knit underneath.

ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 17:44

Well, it still has the label on but as it hasn’t been off my back since 9am I guess I’m keeping it. This is a medium. It came with the cotton linen twill raincoat from the sale but it’s going back. Very exaggerated A line shape and there is only one belt loop at the back which is a bit useless.

Agree, that coat is a beauty.

Countmeout · 30/11/2021 17:59

Thank you @faustina. Yes revisit the coat after it’s hung a while. It may have settled.

Love that jumper @ilovecherries.

faustina · 30/11/2021 18:20

@ilovecherries - that is my favourite jumper this season and it looks amazing on you! It's the only thing I have marked as buy if affordable for the sale proper

Thanks for the advice everyone - I've read the reviews and quite a few say something similar - about the odd shoulders. I will hang it up as suggested and revisit tomorrow - the tweed is so lovely (has some mohair mixed in which makes a bit of fluff too!) I really hope to be able to keep it!

faustina · 30/11/2021 18:30

@ilovecherries was that the raincoat that looked brown but said it was green?

I've quite enjoyed this archive sale because it covers a period of time when I wasn't really paying attention to what was on sale at Toast - quite a lot of things are new to me

Countmeout · 30/11/2021 18:36

@ilovecherries I have a Toast raincoat like that I bought on eBay. Not quite the same as my belt is not attached at the back, I’ve not worn it much as it’s a bit Vera like but it’s very long and certainly covers up in the rain. Colour is very similar.
It’s a good weight though certainly suitable for winter.

ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 18:58

It’s this one. I could be talked into it…

@ilovecherries, i bought that coat two weeks ago on EBay, BNWT. I really like it on. I bought a 10 and I am a 12.

faustina · 30/11/2021 19:30

@ilovecherries - and @ToastCosILoveIt - I was looking at that coat too. That's not my age wore it, or very similar once and it looked so good:

colourful coat

ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 19:36

Oh, she does look rather good in it, doesn’t she. Mine is a 12, it’s quite roomy.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 19:37

I’ve taken it out of the bag again and hung it on the wardrobe door to see if I bond with it.

Oh definitely better than mine @ilovecherries. Colour looks lovely. Is it that colour

dudsville · 30/11/2021 20:16

I'm a long time lurker. I don't think I posted in the last thread but Toast is my favourite luxury so I do keep an eye on you folks here, love seeing the pics but I have to keep my distance or I would be motivated to buy everything!

I think the dress looks great on you Saurus72 but I do tend to wear that kind of shape, and I also would not buy it at that price.

Faustina I also wonder if the shoulders are too narrow?

ilovecherries, I have jumper envy! You also bought that amazing red floral dress didn't you? Does it get much wear? I love both those items but they wouldn't suit me, thankfully!

As for me I'm waiting for 9 sale items, however I purchased on Sunday evening when two items did not have pictures up. Having since googled them I now suspect I ordered the same thing twice, oh well. One of my purchases is that coat ilovecherries but I stupidly ordered my real life size... we shall see. The other item I'm really going works is the palm print dress.

I'm grateful the "ruinous" coat wasn't marked down. I do not need it.

ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 20:29

You’ve got a good memory, Dudsville! I’ve worn the red dress with chunky jumpers and docs through the autumn. I’m not sure if it will get much winter wear as I’m not sure what to wear on my legs but it will be out again in spring!

ilovecherries · 30/11/2021 20:30

I’ve got my real life size in the coat as well. To be honest, I rarely size down in Toast, I always think it’s meant to be big.

OP posts:
dudsville · 30/11/2021 20:36

Glad that dress is getting wear, it's really stunning! So you found the coat too exaggerated...hm... I think I might have a more stout a-line shape myself compared to you so I'm holding out hope!

ToastCosILoveIt · 30/11/2021 20:42

So, most of my sale stuff is going back. I ordered the blue velvet jumpsuit in a 10 and a 12. The 10 is a better fit but I don't like it enough for the price and at £175 it has to be love. I think it would better suit a pear shape and I am an apple. My husband said it looked like a pair of pyjamas: i think it looks better than that but it didn't thrill me.

I am also returning the caper silk velvet dress. It is a beautiful dress but again, doesn't flatter my figure. It would look amazing on someone with a smaller bust. i did have the caper velvet skirt in my basket on sunday and took it out. I wish I had bought that instead.

I am keeping the dull gold jumpsuit which I have in black from last year and also the little jute bag that was £10.

Amen! I always buy my real size in Toast and if it’s big, I assume that’s what the designer intended. 🙈 I truly cannot remember the last time I returned anything I’ve bought, apart from shoes, because they have to fit just right. Perhaps bizarrely, going to the Post Office to return parcels is up there with going to the dentist for me. Also, I have no full-length mirror (hence the lack of selfies) so I judge a garment (on me) on how it feels rather than how it looks. I probably actually-in-real-life resemble The Lady in the Van every time I step out of my front door but no fucks are being given here!
ScottishMouse · 30/11/2021 21:37

I have been shopping at Toast and pretty much only Toast for so long that I don’t know what my “real” size is anymore! I recently had to order a jacket through work and went for a 12, as I am usually a 10 in Toast, and it was too small! I hope the brand in question is tiny, or shopping at Toast has allowed me to balloon and not even notice!

Laska2Meryls · 30/11/2021 21:41

Smaug, I meant to say that I picked up the Uniqlo+J navy down gilet again in the M a couple of days ago from Watford shoo ( as I am up here for a few days visiting MIL).. Perfect, love it and worn twice already ! Sent back the XL. I really thought that is need to size up.. but Nope..

I genuinely think that a lot of people wear smaller sized clothing in the belief that it makes them look ‘thinner’. I also think that people wear things differently so I’d always buy a bigger size in a jacket as I ‘might’ want to layer a jumper underneath it, and I’d hate anything that might restrict me in my movements and I’m so used to the Toast oversized vibe that I’m positively scandalised by anything that just about fits where it touches.

I think changing body shape in peri- and menopause comes into play and I’ve also found that the pandemic and lockdowns has had a massive effect on how comfortable or otherwise I want to be in my clothes; I feel like I want to wear them rather than they wear me.

Yay! Glad you got the right size and it is a success. I am loving my gilet, as I do (still) my coat from last year.

I feel similarly SmaugMum. About 3 years ago I started to feel trapped in my usual outfit of fitted cords with fitted tops. It's what led me to toast. Now I feel bound up in things that fit closely.
