@iguanadonna, I share your Hilary Grant love! I discovered her beautiful work at The Hepworth Wakefield Christmas Fair two or three years ago. I have an oversized ochre scarf and it is a mainstay of my winter wardrobe (I wear scarves all year round).

iguanadonna · 18/11/2021 19:58

Smaug I thought this might be the right crowd!!

NoCureForLove · 18/11/2021 19:58

Thank you Smaug!

ScottishMouse · 18/11/2021 20:02

Oh yes @iguanadonna, love Hilary Grant! Have been eyeing up her bedspreads for a while. Maybe Santa is listening 😆

@ScottishMouse

Reporting on the cord dart trousers (and some other things too)…
  • Cord dart trousers are lovely but way too voluminous for me. The 8 wouldn’t fasten at the waist, the 10 was plenty big on the waist, but huge everywhere else. I would say the fixed waist is not quite as small as other Toast trousers and skirts (I have had to try a 12 before in many).
  • Soft black Gabis are a bit disappointing colour wise. I knew it would be more of a grey than a black, but they have an almost purplish brown tone to my eyes, and I don’t love that. Was hoping for more of a dark steel grey. They might have to go back.
  • Poplin raglan sleeve dress is also going back. It swamps me at 5’1”. Looks ok over a dress as a sort of coat, but the fabric is so light I’m not sure what kind of weather would necessitate it as a layer like that.
  • Indigo wool easy jacket, I reordered in a smaller size as had tried before but it was too big everywhere. Fabric is beautiful, but it is a very swingy shape which I always feel I am a bit busty for. But maybe it works in a substantial jacket. I need to try it again tomorrow and see how I feel then. For that price it needs to be perfect, and I’m not sure it is. It also needs to be worn closed as there is too much fabric when it is open. But the pockets are great and I love their jaunty angle, and it is plenty big enough on the arms to fit plenty of layers underneath (often an issue for me).
I also ordered the quilted jacket from much earlier in the season (the yellow one), but they only had a medium and I probably need a small. It was sent separately and is due to arrive tomorrow, so I’ll report back on that then.
Are the soft black Gabis the cotton summer ones? Mine are a slateish grey as well, def not black! The pintuck skirt was described as slate and is navy blue also

Hello fellow Toasties! Newbie here!

I have been a longtime lurker but finally decided to post because I get so much valuable info before ordering (on sizing etc) that I thought maybe I could do the same for someone else.

For reference, my 'woman of a certain size' credentials are: 5ft4, normally a 10 on bottom and 12 on top as I have broad shoulders (but small bust) and don't like things close fitting. Minimal hips (straight up and down) but got two little ones so proudly sporting the tum.

I recently received my order of the indigo wool cotton easy jacket in a small. Love this and will keep it as I can see it working as both a card and a coat through many seasons. Also love the texture of the fabric and don't quite mind the swingy shape as it gives me some proportion.

Also ordered the easy dress in an 8 in the green/blue pattern (having got it in harlequin print and loved it, fit beautifully) but this one was huge and too tent like so going back.

Velvet jumpsuit in a 10 but the side buttons didn't do up all the way and it just didn't flatter my shape. So bank balance is thankful that's going back!

Checked shirt with the little tie collar in an 8 - very loose but beautiful soft cotton and cute style so a keeper. Love this under cardis or jumpers and it saves on a separate neck scarf!

Fine stripe cotton easy shirt in an 8. Loose fit and balloon sleeves but looks good under a cardi vest to show them off. Quite thin for winter but good layering piece and nice soft cotton.

I've not had much luck with any of the Toast trousers for my shape. But maybe will try a pair when we are back in the UK over Christmas. (I'm a British expat living in Switzerland!)

AmethystMoonShine · 19/11/2021 09:26

Welcome @WildflowerSea, I’m off to look at the tie collar shirt again after reading your comments Smile

WildflowerSea · 19/11/2021 10:01

@AmethystMoonShine Ah thanks! :) It will be a wardrobe workhorse I think, because it's comfy but also smart(ish). Although it is really oversized - I'm definitely not an 8 on top and an 8 fits with a lot of room, enough to layer a long sleeve underneath!

mizu · 19/11/2021 11:51

I'm going to look at the checked shirt too.......

TOAST trousers never seem to work on me either. I have these in blue from last year but haven't worn them much at all. Keep contemplating selling but they are SO lovely and such good quality.

I keep coming back to this dress. Has anyone seen it in real life?

www.toa.st/collections/womens-dresses/products/luna-print-dress-carbon-black

I’m interested that they say it is less an easy fit than the ditsy print dress in similar style - which I returned as it looked like a kaftan on me.

WildflowerSea · 19/11/2021 13:30

I agree @JustforToast, the ditsy print looked kaftan-like on me too, but the same dress in harlequin print in the same size 8 was beautifully fitted and comfortable - so I think it is hit and miss with sizing, especially in the same garment style so I guess it's pot luck how the luna print dress would fit.

But it is a gorgeous print and so wearable with the colour...worth trying...???

Saurus72 · 19/11/2021 14:06

@JustforToast I love this dress too. To me it looks just like the harlequin dress which I have and love. My issue is that I really really don’t need another dress. But I think I would wear it loads. Not sure what to do - keep looking for reviews to give me a steer re: sizing.

ScottishMouse · 19/11/2021 14:53

My yellow quilted jacket arrived today and it is so fab. So much nicer than it looks online. But the M is far too big, and there are no smaller ones available or in any stores. So annoying. I should have tried this back when it appeared first, but I dismissed it. ☹️

neveradullmoment99 · 19/11/2021 15:29

The Toast black popular jumpsuit arrived. Nice but I don't know whether to keep. Its quite neat on the bust. Ok everywhere else but not sure how much I will wear it. Ive ordered the kin indigo dungarees to compare. Will be sending both back or one. I will report back.

That is VERY annoying!
neveradullmoment99 · 19/11/2021 15:30

The Toast jumpsuit I just about manage to fasten, which could be annoying.

neveradullmoment99 · 19/11/2021 15:31

Toilet wise!

WildflowerSea · 19/11/2021 15:45

@neveradullmoment99

Toilet wise!
:) :) nothing worse than faffing about with a jumpsuit when you're desperate!
ScottishMouse · 19/11/2021 15:53

It is @neveradullmoment99! I keep trying it on in the hope it doesn’t look as massive as I think. Here are some pics so you can all tell me what you think. I do like oversized, and I do like the wide sleeves for fitting thick jumpers under, but I am finding it to look quite bulky on the arms, especially from the back as a couple of online reviews say.

And one more with the sleeves turned up more, which I think helps make things look less big on me as I have short arms.

neveradullmoment99 · 19/11/2021 16:10

In relation to the jumpsuit, fine to take off. Its a bit of a faff to zip back up Grin I do manage it though. God knows how!
@Scottishmouse, jacket looks great rolled up and from the front but totally see the big arms from the back. Is it like that when you roll them up too?

faustina · 19/11/2021 16:10

@ScottishMouse - that looks lovely! I'd consider keeping it

neveradullmoment99 · 19/11/2021 16:12

It actually looks fine on the body but quite generous on the arms. Strange. It may come back in stock. The jumpsuit did. I would try sizing down but purely because of the sleeves. They seem a tad out of proportion to the shape of the body of the jacket. Lovely colour.

WildflowerSea · 19/11/2021 16:16

I'm probably in the minority here but I quite like the oversized sleeves - but then I like oversized in general when it comes to coats and jackets. Gorgeous colour, especially against the blue.

ScottishMouse · 19/11/2021 16:35

Thanks all. Yes, I agree with everyone I think. The body looks fine, it’s where the sleeves meet the body at the back that looks a bit bulky. The fabric is quite thick and stiff (but soft if that makes sense), I think thinner fabric with more of a drape wouldn’t have the same problem. I wonder if with some wear it will become less stiff and fall a bit better. But I do also quite like an oversized jacket/coat (so long as I don’t look like a total pin head!). I think I may hold onto it for now and watch to see if a smaller size comes back in stock. Probably unlikely as I think it has been oos in a small for quite some time, but you never know.
