I'm still obsessing over the Cotton cashmere dress (b&w checks). I asked about it before and someone here had seen it in shop and said the fabric wasn't satisfactory. But it's getting good reviews. Any more opinions? Has anyone tried it?

@iguanadonna, i haven’t tried the dress but I do have the shirt in the same fabric. I really love the shirt. But yes, the fabric is not weighty or thick. It feels cosy in the shirt as it has a brushed cotton feel, but it is relatively thin, and I think in a dress you would need tights and maybe some kind of underskirt to keep you warm through winter. Hope that helps a little.

StarShapedWindow · 11/11/2021 15:05

Iguana - I love that dress and can imagine it layered with a chunky cardigan, a winter scarf and thick tights. The shape doesn’t suit me because my boobs are too big and I look like a small ship in that cut but if I could wear it I would.

ilovecherries · 11/11/2021 16:00

I’ve been looking at that as a xmas day dress, donna. Something I can cook/walk/eat in. It is getting v good reviews.

So the JL terracotta Gabis arrived in a 10 .. a good fit... so really pleased .. I may though do what I did with my black coffee ones and take the hems down ..

I sold the too small ebay ones today for what I paid for them so that's good, only the ebay fees down on that now.. I may possibly have got slightly more if Id had hung on allowed them to go to auction , but just pleased to get a good price and recoup most of my money.

mizu · 12/11/2021 07:59

Thanks for the reply Laska2 still unsure.

Week 2 of the TOAST Christmas draw, the velvet dungarees are in there. Maybe this is my lucky week Grin

It was me who found it very thin for a winter dress and I agree, also the price.
Possibly worn with another skirt underneath is what Toast envisaged as they do like the layered look.

iguanadonna · 12/11/2021 08:57

Thanks everyone! Hmmm, another skirt underneath would definitely not work for me.

I just looked on the website and the model is wearing it with a robe and socks in the Loungewear section -they did the same last year. That possibly explains why its quite thin, although with the energy/ climate change crisis looming ...
Countmeout · 12/11/2021 09:14

Morning all. Back online thank goodness. I have last year’s version of that dress @iguanadonna . Someone said this year’s is thinner but mine is not heavy either. It’d be easy to slip a long sleeved vest/ thermal/whatever underneath and wear with cosy tights. It’s a very comfortable dress and I’ve worn mine lots. I do wear a very long puffer if going out though . I love this years big check but have resisted so far.

ToastCosILoveIt · 12/11/2021 13:54

I think that velvet jumpsuit/dungarees is going to be very hard to make look good unlesss you are slim or very well proportioned with a flat tummy. Just a thought but looking forward to hear feedback on anyone who buys it.

NoCureForLove · 12/11/2021 15:00

Agreed. I don't like it. It's got something of Andy Pandy about it!

Like these a lot more...

Those trousers are nice - a nightmare to clean though!

SmaugMum · 12/11/2021 20:47

Going against the flow here, the velvet jumpsuit is the only garment I’ve seen on the Toast website that I’d pay full price for; my M.O. in recent years is to wait till everything is reduced by 70 per cent on the JL website. I also love those trousers @NoCureForLove, they remind me of where I started my clothing relationship with Toast, probably about 16/17 years ago, when my staple uniform was Toast velvet wide leg trousers and a double-breasted military-style heavy-knit woollen cardigan/jacket. I wore the trousers so much that the velvet became bald!

There’s something about velvet that speaks of Christmas, and the excitement of parties, to me.

NoCureForLove · 12/11/2021 21:16

Completely agree Smaug. Velvet for Christmas / parties, corduroy / denim for everyday Smile

BigDayToday · 12/11/2021 21:36

Why, why, why have I never bought Toast trousers before? (Rhetorical question - I'm extremely cheap, and I hate trouser shopping online because I'm short and I need to try on).

I've recently become the proud owner of a pair of chunky cord trousers - not sure which style - and they are sooo comfortable! They're also evoking fond memories of my favourite red cord trousers from my childhood...

Now dithering about how to wear them and have been scrolling back through past threads on here to see what the rest of you do!

BigDayToday · 12/11/2021 21:44

Those velvet trousers look amazing too but I agree they'd be a nightmare to clean. My experience of dry cleaning velvet is that water/liquid marks don't come out easily - though cotton velvet does seem more forgiving than delicate silk/viscose velvets. Maybe I need a better dry cleaner but I'm really wary of velvet, though I do own a few vintage bits that I've picked up cheaply.

iguanadonna · 12/11/2021 22:20

I have those cotton velvet trousers from last year, I think sale. They are glorious. But I am very nervous about getting marks on them. Here in the frozen north I only wear when it is firmly several degrees below zero so I know no drizzle or snow melt will get them.

iguanadonna · 12/11/2021 22:23

I went for it on the checked cashmere cotton dress! Ordered it to try along with alpaca jumper with green Icelandic-style pattern, the highly patterned fairisle jumper, and cotton cord tapered trousers. Will report.

Ooh lovely order. I hope the dress works out for you. It is a lovely style, I was griping at Toast as I felt that perhaps they were upping prices with no discernible reason why, the context being I had last years dress and the culottes and there is quite a price difference. Can anyone remember if there is a pre christmas sale? I got caught out last year so Im hanging on !
Countmeout · 13/11/2021 09:54

Just clearing out receipts and found a sale buy 20/12 last year @TempleofZoom so fingers crossed

Oooh thanks Smile Theres a couple of things Ive got my eye on!
ToastCosILoveIt · 13/11/2021 10:20

@iguanadonna, an exciting haul, looking forward to hearing about fit etc.

Yes, I recall that the sale last year was right before Christmas. Lokking forward to it.

The black denim jumsuit is my new favourite piece of clothing. It is super comfy and can be dressed up or down. I wore it earlier in the week with a patterned Zara blouse and today it is with a cream gathered top from Toast a few seasons ago that I have never worn! It elevates the jumpsuit from casual to smarter as I have brunch with a friend later.

I have posted a couple of photos but they don't capture it very well.
