Models adopting unrealistic, weird position to sell us clothes! 😮

It’s been a thing for years, but seriously? Why do retailers think this helps to sell clothes. What is the thing with adult women pulling at their clothes like an uncertain 3-year-old? Boden used to be one of the worst, but recently, their models seem to be standing normally! Here are a couple from Hush’s latest collection. Can others beat these?

I was looking at Hush the other day, and there was a dress I liked where you couldn't actually see the waistline in any of the photos. I don't mind the more artistic/insta shots as the leading one, but I do need to actually see the front and back of the garment clearly at some point

Strangevipers · 30/09/2021 15:42

I have no idea what you are on about

Picture 1 - this is how I clap
Picture 2 - this is how I look when I'm angry

Are you suggesting that you don't post these ways too 😂

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/09/2021 15:45

I hate the poses on PLT or Boohoo.

They all stick their bums and boobs out. They look like soft porn. I get that they’re meant to be assertive, but ….,

Loving its anti-gravity properties too

katplva · 30/09/2021 15:46

@Nuffaluff but surely this woman is just walking to the shops in a totally normal way? Don’t you head out of the door like this??? Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/09/2021 15:46

That M and S one😂

RavingAnnie · 30/09/2021 15:47

It annoys me when the poses mean you can't actually see the clothes. I want to see what they are like from as many directions as possible and how they hang. Not possible when the models doing a headstand or whatever!

Vodka1 · 30/09/2021 15:49

@Nuffaluff hahahahaha!!! I needed that laugh

That's so fucking random

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/09/2021 15:52

I remember catalogues. Men shielding their eyes from the sun as they pointed at something in the distance. To model Y-fronts.😆

minipie · 30/09/2021 15:52

Ha this is so true.

I love this article with ridiculous Zara photos.

Dashinghaberdashery · 30/09/2021 15:53

Nuffaluff That's hilarious Grin

When models stand in weird positions, I assume the clothing looks so bad and is so low quality that that the model has to contort herself to make the item look better. So I skip it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/09/2021 15:54

Zara. Because everyone needs to climb a door frame occasionally.🙄

That model has recently qualified with 2:1 from the University Department Of The Ministry Of Silly Walks.
She is expected to head the ministry within 10 years.

LizziesTwin · 30/09/2021 15:59

If I can’t see clearly how clothes are cut I can’t be bothered to order them, I don’t have enough time left to try and work out whether a dress might suit me or not. Hush & Brora are bad at this.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/09/2021 16:00

And she’s wearing pj’s under her coatHmm

LucyGrey · 30/09/2021 16:01

I hate with a passion the Zara website for model poses.

Dashinghaberdashery · 30/09/2021 16:03

The Zara models look like they're in the middle of a mental health crisis. Especially the one on the stove.

Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 30/09/2021 16:05

Another M & S one I spotted earlier today

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 30/09/2021 16:08

ArseInTheCoOpWindow to be fair the door frame climbing poses should be used to showcase kids clothing, especially clothes for the 18 months to about 6 years age range... Or was that just my kids?

I hate that tops are only shown tucked in on so many online clothing retailers' sites - you can't guage how long they'll be at all!

waybill · 30/09/2021 16:10

Sometimes I feel rather sorry for the models. They turn up to do a day's work and the photographer and the stylist are all over them like a rash.

There must be so many times they think: "WTF??? Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound".

PartyStory · 30/09/2021 16:11

It's not the model's fault. They don't know how a pose looks on camera and they are expected to change pose with every camera click. The photographer will tell them something like "dance!", "energy!" and then the model will have to come up with something immediately on the spot. Modeling is a lot harder work than it looks. Some of these shots will also be taken between and should be outtakes.

The retailers are ridiculous for using them though. Trying to hard to be a fashion magazine.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 30/09/2021 16:12

PULL & BEAR channeling their inner Zara... I mean wtf is this 😆

Argh! Hush are terrible for this. As are Sezane - not weird poses but styling it in such a way that I can’t see the actual full jumper. Stop adding a wide belt, tucking it in, folding arms and let me see the goddamn jumper.
