Models adopting unrealistic, weird position to sell us clothes! 😮

It’s been a thing for years, but seriously? Why do retailers think this helps to sell clothes. What is the thing with adult women pulling at their clothes like an uncertain 3-year-old? Boden used to be one of the worst, but recently, their models seem to be standing normally! Here are a couple from Hush’s latest collection. Can others beat these?

Yeah, I don't blame the models. I blame whoever decides these photos would be the best way to show their clothes on their website.

I was looking at Bam yoga pants earlier and getting a bit annoyed at their models. Although I guess they have a bit more of an excuse as they’re showing that the clothes are stretchy enough. But I’d like some pictures of the models just standing as well!

"Dressage Foot in the mirror" bugs me unreasonably on FB clothes pages.

Some of the really miserable, dark ones, or the aggressive looking ones make me not want to feel that way wearing clothes!

I expect it's all suggested by the studio photographers, who are all into cutting edge photo's, that they think are hip, when generally some look really stupid, and you can't tell what you might be buying, which defeats the point of advertising.

When models stand in weird positions, I assume the clothing looks so bad and is so low quality that that the model has to contort herself to make the item look better. So I skip it.

I agree with this. I take it as a bad sign for the item of clothing if they're hiding what it actually looks like. More often than not, they've tucked the jumper in because it looks unflattering out, or they've styled it with a big belt because it's totally shapeless without. If you won't let me see what the clothes actually look like I'm not going to buy them. Likewise, if your clothes need to be heavily 'styled' just to look good I'm going to pass. Good clothes should be effortless.

The ASOS models always look like they're doing a poo. Or someone else has, and they are smelling the air to work out where it is.

The men too, except they do a lot more squatting while smelling.

I think it’s creepy photographers getting a kick out of directing the young girls into weird poses. Grim, especially as so many models are mid teens.

I know! I think it's the bag she's meant to be advertising; but much as I love Gillian, the whole set of images are absolutely awful. The shoes are clearly three or four sizes too big, too. Couldn't they find some other shoes somewhere in the whole fashion house that weren't a size 8 or whatever....?

My 8 year old does this, but thankfully she isn't normally dressed like a cut-price Spice Girl trying unobtrusively to scratch her bum.

I saw a pisstake article on Zara recently and the way that they were unsure what a chair was for. (Basically stupid poses involving - but not sitting on- a chair!)
There was a thread that got very heated on here about a Zara ad whether the model was healthy/photoshopped but they had a dress on that was billowing in a gale . It was impossible to tell what it would look like on an average height person standing in a normal way on a non windy day!!

The worst are the "I'm about to have a wank" shots. What the fuck?
