Thou shalt not covet …this Wyse cardigan

Please help me find an alternative to this cardigan

www.wyselondon.co.uk/products/romy-multi-shade-cardigan-multi

I want it SO much but that price is just eye wateringly expensive Shock

I’ve searched high and low (online!) for a chunky colourful cardigan (or anything that’s just not black/navy or cream/oatmeal will do) and can’t find anything similar.

I’m after THE ultimate snuggly cardigan to take me into autumn pre coat season and for cuddling up in front of the fire.

Any help would be gratefully received Wine

@waltzingparrot - The cardigan you've linked to Etsy is definitely the nicest on this whole thread. Gorgeous!!

And dangerous for my bank balance, because now I'm eyeing it up with a view to purchase.... Grin

I have this in another colour , it’s very soft & cosy. There are lots of different colours available.

Some of the 'alternatives' posted on this thread are hilarious. Reminds me of the old meme 'nailed it' when people tried to recreate cakes/home decor etc themselves with funny results. I'd forgotten about that so will google for a laugh later!

As someone who knits and crochets myself, this thread also reminds me why I never sell my work as people often encourage me to do. Yes you can 'knock something up yourself' or buy it cheaper elsewhere but honest to goodness you are not appreciating the time and effort and quality of wool in a lot of cases.

And while I enjoy both knitting and crochet a piece like that, even as a simple crochet stitch and colour change, would still take many hours. Also the 'find an old person who likes to do it' is frankly demeaning and sexist (prob for another board!) but you are effectively not valuing their skill and think their time spent on crafting your piece is worthless if you suggest only buying the wool?!

I'm sure the pp who mentioned their relative doing this did genuinely enjoy doing this for family but it's not an ideal attitude towards makers.

Lecture over!

May all your cardigans be beautiful....

I have the Wyse one in a different colour from last years sale
I love it, it is just so cosy and perfect for cuddling up and working from home and haven't found anything of the perfect length and colour again so eyeing up the navy one but no way am I paying full price
I may take it to a wool shop and try that way

This one is so gorgeous in real life (really so much nicer than in this pic)

This one in Revelry would look fab!

It would be very easy to knit it in the same colour ways as the Wyse one, and have it completely striped rather than blocked at the top.

I've just bought it! Thanks so much for the link @waltzingparrot
I remember seeing a chunky Ralph Lauren cardigan that was similar but which cost 250€ (I'm in France) - I could never have justified spending that much! This one is nicer and more affordable.

'Never Fully Dressed' have a beautiful one I think you'll love for £129

This popped up in an Instagram ad and I thought of this thread. It comes in cream too.

holidaynearlyover · 05/09/2021 22:16

Why does the model in the Hush one keep pulling the bloody cardigan all over the place? You can't really tell how it fits from those pictures!!

Viviennemary · 05/09/2021 22:20

That price. Shock. Agree a handknit could be made for a lot less. Doesn't do anything for me.

Craftycorvid · 05/09/2021 22:21

The original cardi’ would need to be 100% cashmere to warrant that price and tbh it really looks a bit cheap in the photos. I’d be gutted to spend that much on it. Other suggestions have seemed much nicer.

FionasFanjoFondu · 05/09/2021 22:24
How about this? There were a few nice ones on their website
www.doodiestark.co.uk/copy-of-hera-brushed-knit-cardi-grey.html
That khaki one is gorgeous.

Bugger you.

I'm going to have to buy that.

sleepwhenidie · 05/09/2021 22:35

Byheckythump’s linked site has a much closer match for the Wyse one…doodie

mrstrickland · 07/09/2021 10:08

This thread is amazing! I have asked my mum to knit something resembling the original. She isn't keen, but..... I think I can persuade her to give it a shot!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/09/2021 10:13

I ended up ordering the one I linked - will report back - despite absolutely not needing another cardigan.
