Perfumes/Scents you remember

I was thinking about these and how many I have used over the years. These are the ones I remember, starting from about age 11:-

Blue Grass - Elizabeth Arden
Apple Blossom - Helena Rubinstein
Aqua Manda - Yardley
Vent Vert - Balmain
Shalimar - Guerlain
Caleche - Hermes
Opium - YSL
Aromatics Elixir - Clinique
Escada - Margaretha Ley
No. 5 - Chanel
No. 19 - Chanel
Various perfume sticks from Sephora
and now Paris-Biarritz - Chanel

My favourites were Vent Vert and Escada - sadly both unavailable now - unless anyone knows better?

What were/are your favourite scents?

@JaceLancs

I sorely miss poison tendre in the green bottle by Dior
Me too! Have never found anything to replace it.

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants

Pretty peach! Do you remember the cream version, which was a yellow barrel and twisted into two? *@icelollycraving* :)
Yes! Yes I do! ❤️

There was a French teen one called Garçonne that you could buy in Carrefour too. Early 90s

Zigzag77 · 06/06/2021 20:10

I own at least 20 perfumes at any one time, love them so much! Below are some
Of the ones I’ve repurchased over and over.

Teens: body shop white musk, sunflowers, Clinique happy
Twenties: Vivienne Westwood boudoir, dolce gabbana light blue, Tommy girl, Issey Miyake
Thirties: Chloe, boudoir, Chanel chance
Forties: Burberry the one, Burberry her, boudoir (again.. until it got discontinued last year 😣)

I used to LOVE the Spice Girls Impulse body spray in the 90s, utterly divine!

I had a boyfriend who wore Gucci Envy for men which is also discontinued sadly because that too was otherworldly.

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/06/2021 20:19

Cinnabar and Halston when I was in sixth form. My then boyfriend wore Aramis. You must have been able to smell us before you saw us! I still sneak the odd sniff of Aramis when I can, and am transported back to 1982/3 and Wheeler’s night club in Henley-on-Thames!

Cam2020 · 06/06/2021 20:42

Accenti by Gucci
De Ci De la by Nina Ricci

TheYellowOne · 06/06/2021 20:50

Cacharel Pour L'Homme - takes me back to the 1990s in a second!

YouokHun · 07/06/2021 01:39

I loved Diorella and wore it for years and it takes me back to my early twenties. Or at least it did take me back, but they reformulated it a few years ago and it’s now heavy and powdery and pretty horrible.

musthavebeenlove · 07/06/2021 01:46

Envy by Gucci - my signature scent from 12 to 15
Allure by Chanel - my signature scent from 15 to 18/19

After that
Dior J’adore
Ralph Lauren Blue
Poupee Rochas
Guerlain Insolence
Gucci Rush
Thierry Mugler Angel
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle

Seeing as this is a thread about older perfumes I wonder if anyone would recognise a perfume iv been looking for for years. In 1994/95 I walked past a woman who was showing her companion the perfume she had just bought. she sprayed some in the air and it was the most divine, expensive smelling perfume, I can still remember it now, it was floral but not overpowering. I search for years trying to figure out what it was. it had a very distinctive bottle, the lid was a huge white flower, very similar to L'Air du Temps. but, the bottle was like a taller, slimmer, clear glass version of J'adore. I've often wondered if it was a special edition of L'Air du Temps. Does anyone recognise it?

Foundmyfeet · 07/06/2021 07:09

Jumping on here. I tried to start a thread like this in Jan with no responses! Lol! I absolutely miss Jeunesse by Impulse. Wore it as a teen when I holidayed in Scotland one summer. I've still kept the can until I find a similar scent!

Anyone know where I can find one?

Bluesheep8 · 07/06/2021 07:36

Body Shop Dewberry

XiCi · 07/06/2021 08:31

Was is Marc Jacobs Daisy? Amortensia

I still remember the smells of the perfumes my mum used to wear in the 70s/80s, Panache and Charlie

When I first started going out in my teens I'd wear Loulou then Giorgio Beverly Hills.
Later was Fendi, Gucci Envy, Coco Mademoiselle, Allure, D&G Feminine (my bf had D&G Masculine Smile), D&G The One, Gucci by Gucci, Cerrutti. I got a couple of the discontinued ones from Perfume Parlour a while back and they evoked such memories. The Gucci Envy one is particularly good.

I've searched and I don't think so Sad

XiCi · 07/06/2021 12:04

Wow Bluesheep, thanks, I didn't think that would still be around. I've just seen you can buy Loulou for less than 15 quid as well. I'm going to buy both and have a little trip down memory lane Smile

Bluesheep8 · 07/06/2021 12:09

@XiCi

Hope you enjoy! You've got me thinking about Lulu now...I used to wear that as a teenager, that and Anais anais....

silverstrawberry · 07/06/2021 12:18

First perfume I remember using was sold at the chemist and was called 'tribe' I loved it so much I searched for it online and I've bought it again some 25 years later

ILoveFlumps · 07/06/2021 12:20

Eau D'Eden - Cacherel (nothing like Eden - this was beautiful)
Dewberry - Body Shop. Think every girl at school had this one.

MumofTeens2021 · 07/06/2021 12:27

I used to love Dune but so got a bottle recently and it seemed much more sickly and powdery than I remember. It used to have a lovely orangey scent. There was a limited edition Dune Summer Sun that was fab.

As a teen we all loved Cachet, another powdery sickly choice in retrospect!

Ditto Chanel Egoist for men. Used to adore it now it's minging. So sweet and overpowering. Maybe it's my nose that's changed!

Now I like the Gucci Florals mainly.

Cornishbelle · 07/06/2021 12:29

@Amortentia it wasn't amarige by givenchy?

Howshouldibehave · 07/06/2021 12:29

After the Body Shop Dewberry/Ananya ones, my first ‘proper’ perfume was Eau de Gucci which I bought at an airport when I was about 15 in the early 90s-it was in a very fancy (to me) looking bottle! I don’t think that’s made any more.
