Can you ever wear boots to a wedding?

I have bought a beautiful dress from Maje for a wedding.

uk.maje.com/en/ready-to-wear/collection/dresses/120roman/MFPRO01274.html?dwvar_MFPRO01274_color=P003

I’ve tried it on with the usual strappy sandals and because of the pattern and the swingy skirt and the sleeves the sandals just don’t look quite right.

I was wondering if I could ever team this dress with boots for a wedding. The wedding won’t be super formal I would say just normal levels of formality. I also don’t know what the weather will be like and I think a lot of it will take place outside.

I’m thinking of teaming it with these

uk.maje.com/en/shoes/collection/booties-and-boots/221forchains/MFACH00411.html?dwvar_MFACH00411_color=2517

I’ve bought these items and I think they look great together but am I just fooling myself that this is wedding attire?

@Ninkanink- I agree 100%, plum whistles boots & taupe/ nude bag

Why on earth are people so adamant that boots can't be worn to a wedding?

I've worn dressy boots to several weddings over the years & they were much admired....one pair were fabulous ecru suede knee high pointy toed heels & the other were amazing Paul Smith black suede heeled ankle boots.

There seems to be a lot of VERY rigid rules in some people's minds about what's allowable at weddings.

I'm nearly 50 & have been to a lot of weddings over the years & I've never owned a pair of nude sandals in my life!

FindingMeno · 04/06/2021 21:54

Love the dress.
With boots, yes, the right ones - but not those ones for a wedding.

VVKills27 · 04/06/2021 21:56

I’ve worn boots with a dress to a wedding. MIDI vintage floral dress with beige ankle boots with a strap detail - my husbands friend said I looked like D’Artagnan. I took that as quite a compliment! Wear whatever the heck you fancy & wear it with confidence I say.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/06/2021 21:57

Which boots do you mean @FindingMeno ? The ones the OP posted on the 1st page or the whistles ones she's looking at now?

VVKills27 · 04/06/2021 21:57

Random capitalised ‘Midi’ 😆

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 21:58

@Ninkanink I have ordered the bag I would use that anyway after the wedding so that is a good but in the sale. And looks gorgeous. Thanks for that recommendation I would have never found that Smile

I’m just on the boots and since I already have the Maje boots in black actually (keep forgetting that!) and so plum does make sense and they’re in the sale so that’s my next purchase.

Ooooh exciting @Beachlovingirl !
I think that combination will look gorgeous. I'm v tempted by those boots myself!!

FindingMeno · 04/06/2021 22:01

@UnreasonablyPissedOff, sorry, my mistake - I didn't see the second ones, which would be lovely.

MoltonSilver · 04/06/2021 22:03

Since lockdown some of us will never wear heels again. When you think about it they're ridiculous. The idea that women need to look dainty is also ridiculous. I'm sill not convinced on the wintery boots but I think that flat sandals could work really well.

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 22:04

Awesome! Quick, best buy the plum boots before loads of other people on the thread beat you to it! Grin

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/06/2021 22:04

@FindingMeno - phew Grin

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 22:05

Ok it’s done. The bag and the plum boots are ordered.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed here, you’re a very awesome bunch of people Star

I have been to many, many weddings (am old) and can’t recall a single outfit outside of what the bride wore. Wear what you want. No one cares.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/06/2021 23:15

Brilliant @Beachlovingirl - I hope they all look amazing together! Will you post us a pic of them even if you're not wearing it ?

therearenogoodusernamesleft · 05/06/2021 07:32

No no no to black shoes.
You say you want to be able to wear them again - rather than spend £200 on something, why not spend less and accept you may not get as much use? Your thought he s on future office wear are skewing what you're looking at!

I agree no stilettos with that dress. The Ted baker green wedges are ideal.

And no black shoes. Nope.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/06/2021 07:48

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

My niece wore white DM's with her wedding dress... she looked great.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/06/2021 08:38

Trapped - I'm sure she did. As a bride.

As a guest, if the wedding is pretty formal, it's inappropriate. The problem here is that nobody knows how dressy the wedding is likely to be, so it's not really possible to know what's acceptable.

skyrocket77 · 05/06/2021 10:59

Boots nice but definitely not for a wedding

skyrocket77 · 05/06/2021 11:03

On the other hand rethinking this.
You should wear what you like and are comfortable in as you will feel like you.
Sorry before when I said it's a no.
I'm sure you will look great.
Have a fab time.

Ninkanink · 05/06/2021 11:32

@Beachlovingirl please post a photo to model everything for us! I haven’t got the budget for a new Aspinal bag myself right now, so I need vicarious shopping thrills! Wink Grin

Beachlovingirl · 05/06/2021 11:39

@therearenogoodusernamesleft you’re right I was doing that and I work in a cool office anyway we’re not all suited and booted anyway so I think I was imaging I would get use when I wouldn’t.

I will post a photo I promise Smile I hope it all comes together nicely!

@Ninkanink I got the bag monogrammed lol I was like why not? I went for the gift box too. It’s fair to say I had had a few gin and tonics Grin i am very excited about the bag since I know I’ll use it loads! Thanks again! Smile

Ninkanink · 05/06/2021 11:47

Haha I was JUST thinking to myself five minutes ago, I wonder if @Beachlovingirl went for the monogramming. Grin

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 05/06/2021 11:52

I'm living vicariously through this thread Grin
Monogrammed bag sounds fabulous!
I think your outfit will be absolutely gorgeous

Ninkanink · 23/06/2021 11:22
