Can you ever wear boots to a wedding?

I have bought a beautiful dress from Maje for a wedding.

uk.maje.com/en/ready-to-wear/collection/dresses/120roman/MFPRO01274.html?dwvar_MFPRO01274_color=P003

I’ve tried it on with the usual strappy sandals and because of the pattern and the swingy skirt and the sleeves the sandals just don’t look quite right.

I was wondering if I could ever team this dress with boots for a wedding. The wedding won’t be super formal I would say just normal levels of formality. I also don’t know what the weather will be like and I think a lot of it will take place outside.

I’m thinking of teaming it with these

uk.maje.com/en/shoes/collection/booties-and-boots/221forchains/MFACH00411.html?dwvar_MFACH00411_color=2517

I’ve bought these items and I think they look great together but am I just fooling myself that this is wedding attire?

Something like these?

Can you ever wear boots to a wedding?

I think black ankle boots would look good with that dress, just not ones with chains on.

Or a wedge/flat sandal.

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 11:36

@minipie

these green wedges would look fab but tan would work too IMO
They’re really nice. The green would work better.
Maireas · 04/06/2021 11:59

Those green wedges are lovely! A bit more stylish than plain sandals. Avoid those high heeled court shoes, you'll never wear them again.

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 12:05

Espadrille wedges would work well (they’re marmite on S&B, I know, but I like them a lot). However I wouldn’t go for green unless you really love green, otherwise you’re limiting their use! A natural colour would look great with the dress. Or you could colour block. Boden do lovely suede ones for a reasonable price. Fairfax and Favor have beautiful ones but more pricey! A beautiful handbag will smarten up the look to make it fine for formal occasion(s) but the shoes will be very versatile over the summer for dressing up/down.

Yes but only in Dec/Jan.

RuthW · 04/06/2021 12:12

Just looked at the link. They are too casual for a wedding any time of year.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2021 12:38

I like those green wedges. Yes to tan, too.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:42

Funnily I read a review on a pair of black boots yesterday where the person said they bought them to wear to a wedding! Personally I wouldn't.

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 13:32

Thanks everyone. There is lots of food for thought here.

The boots I do have look heavy and chunky but they’re actually not. The workmanship is quite something and the chain is removable. But I digress they aren’t right for the wedding.

The dress has a lot of black and dark green in it so I would go for a black shoe and it’s also a ecru colour background, not white, like it looks on the link.

I’m not a fan on the nude shoe thing it washes out my legs which already are pretty washed out ha ha. I also don’t think they would get worn again. With the black courts I would wear them when we’re allowed into the office again if I wanted to have a smart day - or for a job interview.

Oh actually there was one more thing I found that was maybe do-able but as you all know by now, I am terrible at putting things together, so let me know what you think.

White dr martens would look fab

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 13:36

Wouldn’t the Whistles boots have the same effect as nude shoes? If it were me I’d try and find something cheap and cheerful and send them to the charity shop afterwards.

Beachlovingirl · 04/06/2021 13:40

@Blossomtoes I also thought that but what about the plum colour?

I haven’t found anything I like even cheaper ones :-(

Ellpellwood · 04/06/2021 13:43

No. No boots. At all. Any colour. Not to a summer wedding.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2021 13:55

I nearly posted the Whistles boots earlier. I like them.

Absolutely no to white DMs!!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2021 13:55

In black, I meant.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/06/2021 14:07

I LOVE the whistles boots & think you should consider them!

The dress has the shape that can take those boots & they're a lot more interesting than ubiquitous nude strappy sandals

I'd say go for them & you'll def wear them again afterwards

Bluntness100 · 04/06/2021 14:22

I think thr whistles boots work and are fine. In fact they are one of the few places I think you’d get away with them.

Ninkanink · 04/06/2021 14:23

Agree, those boots are my favourite option so far! As pp has said, the dress can carry it off and so, I’m sure, can you!

So...what bag will you be carrying??

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 04/06/2021 14:26

What bag would you put with the boots & dress @Ninkanink?

Icanflyhigh · 04/06/2021 14:27

I bloody hope so as I've got some fancy DMs to go under my wedding dress in 6 weeks!!!

someonelockthefridgealready · 04/06/2021 14:32

I love the Whistles boots in plum. My favourite option so far.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 04/06/2021 14:32

LOVE the green wedges posted by @minipie. Not keen on the Whistles boots. I still think a caged sandal would look good.

Fab dress @Beachlovingirl!

notthemum · 04/06/2021 14:32

I love the Cornel point pumps. Didn't get to see the dress though cos it didn't come through. So if someone could send me a pic or a link that would be fab. Thanks. 🍷

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 04/06/2021 14:35

@someonelockthefridgealready I’ve worn DMs to a wedding and had I had an English wedding myself I would have absolutely worn them to mine!

The ones I did wear are silver iridescent ones.

My BF wore gold trainers under her wedding dress and looked amazing.

I hope you have a wonderful day!
